The first time I heard the term "holes", I assumed it was an abbreviated version of assholes, because the context was so negative. In any case, I think Louis is right. If you find a woman that's funny and adds to the show, have her on. Don't force a woman into the mix to "represent our side", because that always means it'll be some contrarian pain in the ass that acts more like a school principal than a guest or co-host. No one's more offended than me when that happens.
Me too. You hear when unfunny fucks say 'ohhh dont make fun, c'mon' but then you really think of it as 'don't make fun'. As in, "do not create fun." Or "Stop introducing fun in to this." It gives the holes an entire other dimension of being terrible downers. Stop turning dull, boring situations in to fun, guis.
Deliciously refreshing good ol fashion sexism oh how I miss it. It´s really something both men and women and any number of different groups NEED it´s HEALTHY.
Reminds me of the female voice from Lisa's Emergency School Kit from The Simpsons episode when school teachers went on strike...."Is that gum? Is that gum" XD
Right. In an alternate universe where most women could not refrain from ruining comedy, comedy programs would have to let them down. Same thing with the religious right in the real world.
MomSaysImCool I don't know many examples of the religious right ruining comedy. What do you mean? And many are put in the position to ruin comedy in this universe, as you yourself stated and was mentioned in the video. My point is that even if it _is_ an honest opinion, it doesn't mean a program should be censored. It being offensive isn't the grounds for censorship. It's freedom of speech.
I don't like when people seem afraid to say that there are differences between men and women. Of course there are, equal doesn't mean the same. We wouldn't like each other if we were. I noticed that women do tend to look for humor in men (not vice versa), but they themselves don't really partake in it to the same degree. Maybe it's something men are biologically geared to do in order to make themselves less threatening to women?
It's an interesting, albeit humorless theory. One could easily argue (along the lines of that logic) that women suppress their sense of humor for fear of being perceived negatively i.e. as less attractive. I've noticed men tend to be threatened by intelligent women and humor is, at minimum, an expression of intelligence.
Regis Filia Intimidated or don't care for it? The two aren't the same to me, you can be put off by something without being intimidated by it. Plus, what's so humorless about my theory? I think it's a pretty fair point. Big fat scary lookin' guy crackin' jokes makes me much more comfortable around the guy. Patrice often expressed that himself.
***** Well, it depends on the person, is my point. A lot of times people seem to want simple answers to complex questions, and that isn't always a good thing. Do you find intelligent women attractive because of their intelligence alone? That's up to you to answer for yourself, but our answers will often butt heads because of personal tastes. Also, what _is_ intelligence, really? Because that alone isn't attractive to me at all, personally. And I suspect many people would agree. Generally, I think men are attracted to the way women treat them moment-to-moment, not "intelligence". But that's just my view. I think a lot of this confusion is brought about by people trying to not offend anyone, so they just sort of agree to any old thing without thinking about it honestly. Again, my opinion isn't one of bigotry or hate, it's just an honest examination of what people seem to wan out of each other. I don't believe in stupid people. Except maybe the wicked, but they're just ignorant.
John NoNameGibbon All great comedians usually look like shit and just dont give a fuck what seems impossible to females. Anyhow I haven't heard proper funny female comedian in my life, so go figure. All they can do is bitch, whine and shut down like boys stated here. Guess that's the only way they think they can participate.
It has been long known that women find humor attractive in a man, which todays psychologists confirm. It is believed that women have evolved to find humor attractive because it is an indicator of intelligence, as a result, men are inheritly funnier than women as another means to attract women and show off their intelligence. for men, intelligence in a woman may offer some attraction, but as a desirable trait it is more tertiary.
Jonah Loeb huge gap with him and opie but ant holds his own with any comedian while on the radio. Louie, Burr, Rogan, Patrice and Jimmy have all said he's the funniest/quickest off the cuff guy in radio ever.
hahah oh man that bit kills me just the Person - Excuse me Sir isnt this the restuarant where everybodys crazy? Louis - No this is a fine restuarant, theres nothing going on here. Person-Oh, can you tell me where the crazy restuarant is? Louis - I've never heard of any place like that, why would anyone go to someplace like that?
The real point of this bit isn't that "women aren't funny" or "women shouldn't do radio". The point is that the broadcasting executives are so sexist that they hire *any* women regardless of their qualifications and set the process up so that they'll be unfunny and be 'counter' to everything. It's a condescending pandering at its worst, and *that* is what these guys are having problems with.
David Cross has a funny counter to that, he goes "no? That one, you don’t believe it? You believe that I didn’t do a series of tests? You are right to not believe it, because I’m going to go ahead and admit that I do not believe what I just said, it was what’s described as a 'joke.' I’ll be telling a bunch of them here tonight."
You're so right. Louis C.K. would never do a bit about having kids or how weird his balls look or how things are different for white people. His comedy doesn't come from what it's like to be him at all. Only women and black and asian and gay comics do that. Not the straight white guys.
Opie and Anthony actually did this themselves during the interview with Donald Rumsfeld where Louis kept asking him if he was a lizard and the two kept saying "Oh, stop it Louis! He's not a lizard!"
That's called being the straight man in a bit (or a good cop / bad cop interview). Ant masterfully kept the former Secretary of Defense on the phone with a man who repeatedly asked him if he was a lizard.
You think Louis was talking about Kristi Lee from the Bob and Tom show in that first joke? I like that show a lot, and Louis even said he likes these shows that still do this. Kristi is great but I could see her saying something like that.
yup, women are so predictable. They also say shit like that the same way a kid says they can beat up their dad, its only funny because it is so ridiculous. But it is not funny if a man says, "women think they are in charge, but we all know that us men are" because this is usually the truth and thus mean to point it out.
i was listening to this and i was on omg facts when i saw "Comedian Louis C.K. always cuts his sandwiches in half before eating them" theyr watching me
@Dionysus187 good job you named one. That I disagree with btw, and what men do you like on the show? What's the percentage of men and women in society? hmmm
Good theory, but you can also argue that since women are evolutionary adept at socializing , they harbor more social skills like entertaining others and maintaining interesting relationships, thus they are more prone to entertain others and establish humor to entice others into relationships. In other words women try humor to keep relationships thriving and well.
@terryfez A hole is basically the only role women get to have in radio these days, which is someone whos job is to ruin the show by ruining bits and keeping the 'boys' 'in-line'
Yes, I think the issue is the affirmative action. Nowadays, I see a lot of incompetent women in all sorts of careers, while, at the same time, I happen to know many women who are capable, smart and can offer a lot. But if the employers (including those in radio) have the quotas hanging over their heads, they'll take the first semi-alright woman that comes their way. So women often don't compete for spots the way men do which means the bosses don't get to meet the best ones to compare.
Ironic they're discussing radio holes when Opie fake laughs loudly the entire clip and Jimmy is slap happily interrupting Louis' story with unfunny comments which effectively puts the brakes on what he's saying. It's not intentional which makes it even more ridiculous. Once Louis got really famous they didn't know how to deal with him normally anymore. Their excitement over having him on the show got in the way of anything organic.
Maybe if the men in charge of the media hired women based on their intelligence or wittiness rather than their waist:tits ratio, they wouldn't be so misrepresented as unfunny and dumb. I'd LOVE to hear how hilarious and ingenious a bunch of male models or body builders would be. Somehow I get the feeling that it wasn't their looks that got Jim Norton or Anthony into the business. I still love Louis CK.
The "truth" is that the vast majority of women (and men) on talk radio are horribly untalented, uninteresting, hackneyed, and just boring. Most of them unfortunately for some reason try to be the "voice of reason" in any discussion at the expense of anything approaching "controversy" or honesty. Pointing out the truth is not "hate".
Yeah there's a really simple explanation for that, most women are usually excluded from guy talk, so when comes the time for them to interact or listen in to it they don't know the proper rules or etiquette. All you have to do to not have Hole persons around you, is to treat them like you would your friends, so that they become used to you and know what to expect. /Hole Out.
@catsnjamerz and you just made the point this video made lol. Woman and comedy just do not mix. Well, good comedy anyway. The balloon of comedy can not have a hole.
@bumfromkorea My sentiments exactly. You know what the problem is? Your opinion is too nuanced and advanced for a lot of people to understand. It's not YOUR problem, obviously. You're right. But I can see loads of people missing the Truth of this bit and what you're saying.
Louis talking about shutting down an improv show is great.
The first time I heard the term "holes", I assumed it was an abbreviated version of assholes, because the context was so negative.
In any case, I think Louis is right. If you find a woman that's funny and adds to the show, have her on. Me too. You hear when unfunny fucks say 'ohhh dont make fun, c'mon' but then you really think of it as 'don't make fun'. As in, "do not create fun." Or "Stop introducing fun in to this." It's not a problem with women, it's a problem with what program directors think the "female side" is.
Even if that _is_ what most females think (I'm being hypothetical here), you shouldn't have to censor yourself.

I'm so glad Jim Norton is there when Louie is. They have great chemistry.
