I grew up in Maryland Heights in the 60's and 70's- then after a few years in the Air Force, moved back so our kids could go to Pattonville schools. I can't say it has it's own personality as it was incorporated in the mid 80's and there's not a lot of history here. However, I saw an article a couple years ago claiming Maryland Heights was the best place to live in Missouri judging by resident happiness, housing prices and schools. Sure, there aren't may new houses in the city, but the older ones were built better.
I've lived here 17 years in a small ranch home built in 1964. Deer are in the backyard some nights. I can ride my bike to the bike path to Creve Coeur Lake and across the Missouri River to the Katy Trail where I can ride another 200 miles across the state (if I wanted to). The population of Maryland Heights decreases by half at night due to the comuting workers. Maryland Heights is on the border between lower crime to the south, and higher crime to the north. The international airport is 13 minutes away. The intersection of highways 70 and 270 is the busiest in Missouri, and the interchange by 270 and Dorsett has the most accidents in Missouri. I feel like I'm in the center of things between St. Louis and St. Charles, yet it's still a pleasant area with room to breath.
I lived in an apartment in Maryland Heights for three years about 15 years ago. I absolutely loved it! I lived a block from Schnucks and right next to I-270. A great area to walk around and several restaurants are within walking distance. I would occasionally take a walk to Westport Plaza when I wanted a good walk. I spent pretty much every weekend at Creve Coeur Lake. And, it is Northwest County. You don't really hear that term a ton, but I'd definitely call it Northwest County. I'd consider Maryland Heights, Bridgeton, St. Ann, etc. part of Northwest County. If I were to move to St. Louis County, I would seriously consider moving there again. You could literally get to about anywhere you want within a 15 minute drive.
That's totally fair. I've heard some people use the term "Northwest" county as well as "southwest" county. Usually people who live in those areas that don't really fit well as a definitive west, south, or north county suburb.
It is a nice suburban area that is close to many parts of the city and really nice close to Creve Coeur park which has really nice trails and recreation. You can join several rowing clubs and all kinds of fun stuff!
"St. Louis County shut down the public parks because people were being stupid during lockdown." Oh, how dare people go outside like you literally just described yourself doing.

Maryland heights is North County in parts of the Pattonville district and West County in the entirety of the Parkway district.

Agreed completely! Creve Coeur lake is one of my all time favorites in Maryland Heights
I think EHI (Enterprise Holdings) is larger in terms of annual revenue than WWT. But yes WWT is a great place and David Steward is a tremendous leader
You’d be correct! I just checked and it looks like EHI is #1, WWT is #2 and Edward Jones is #3 in STL
I've lived in Maryland Heights since 1964. We called it Northwest St.Louis County.
That's a good way of putting it, I completely agree with that
According to the map, Maryland Heights is in West county.
That's a fair point
Thank you! No one in STL ever refers to Maryland Heights as a part of North County.
me who lives in stl
west county. just, west county

"Stupid" as in throwing parties in the public gazebos. Were you here during lockdown? If you were I'm sure you would remember. Thanks.
No one who is from here, or lived in STL for a long time would ever call Maryland Heights a part of North county. This is hilarious 😂
You can read people from STL debate this argument: www.city-data.com/forum/st-louis/3079606-definitions-mid-south-north-west-st.html
