It’s not even a competition the best Harry Mack song is “Prove it to myself” and the second best is “One Foot infront the Other” The chorus on prove it to myself is amazing. he delivers it perfectly and it has such a great feel coupled with the beat. Plus he’s addressing such a pivotal thing in my life and lives all around the world where nobody is going to save you and they will allow you to drown yourself and even if they do help you it is ultimately up to you to figure your ish out. Not to let mediocrity and not to let fear and doubt and not to let these mental walls that you have built up stop you and make you complacent. That no matter what and no matter how hard it is figure it out and invest in your well being. And then one foot infront the other has such a nostalgic feel to it and I feel like he really delivered well on that. The imagery that he uses in those verses especially verse two is impeccable writing. I feel that his chorus was lackluster but only because I felt like there should have been more layers or something that filled it up more instead of him just kind of delivering it by himself. Nevertheless the track is still amazing. I mean.. “Mutin the venomous voices that spewing the sour nonsesne tryna leave your ass reduced to a coward from the subconscious conversation we removing the doubters reclaiming the clarity the phones and computers devour helping me concentrate like juices from powder..” bruh..
Damn love this in depth answer. Such an oversight by me to not really mention that one cuz i agree, it’s such a powerful message. Definitely can relate. That quote you pulled is epic too 💯
He is the greatest freestyler to this day. With that being said, the difference between a freestyle and a song or "written" are universes apart. And I wouldn't expect Mack to go from one to the other and be on the same level. I still like any of the 6 songs from his first 2 EP's better than any writtens he released in 2024. My advice, is look at some of the greatest hip-hop to date. I know he is a fan of Tribe Called Quest as I am. The MUSIC came first. Always. Then it was the songwriting, They were experts at picking the right cadence for each beat, timing their breaks, and giving air to their versus to allow the beat to carry the song in certain areas. It is a balance that takes a lot of practice. Culture plays a part. Big part. No disrespect to Mack because no one will likely free better than him in my lifetime, or even come close. But I would love to see him bring in some instrumentals (not digital) on a few tracks, some vocals from other artists to add flavor and some substance that is relatable. That last song he played at a few of his concerts on the Energy Exchange tour is a great example of substance. The video of his fam pics etc is relatable. More of that. Just my opinion.
Yoo appreciate this in depth response homie! It’s interesting you like the Rap Coltrane and Soulilloquies EPs both more than anything he’s done this year. Rap Coltrane was full freestyle but Soul did have similar elements of his process for his singles this year. I feel you on the idea that more live instrumentation could definitely elevate the musicality. Would be dope to hear some vocalists on the same track too. The last song of EE you’re talking about with the fam pictures was actually ‘They Told Me’ which i mentioned in this video too. Love that track and the relatability of it 💯
Before watching, my top 10: 1. It goes deep 2. I ain’t gotta worry 3. Back on mine (if that counts) 4. Not the same 5. Iconoclast 6. Minotaur 7. Nikola Tesla 8. So low 9. WYGDN 10. The process
Any chance this will be a digital album at some point? Hard to choose but I think my top 3 are #1 WYGDN, #2 Nikola Tesla, #3 It Goes Deep. Let’s also mention the singles you’ve been droppin recently! I was late to hear it but that Centuries song was 🔥! Keep up the good work!
Just ordered the vynl hope he does cd too. Find it difficult to chose , iconoclast,,minotaur, WYGDN woops find myself just listing them all so I will stop now.
What’s up, Kaan 🫡 Sipp here. Sending GOOD energy, my guy. “As Time Goes On” has a bar that’s “…perhaps I’ll continue until the day I rot in the grave; regardless, I’m grateful for every word I’m jottin’ today.” It really hits because it mirrors my ethos: EverydayEpic. Tomorrow isn’t promised so live immediately. Everyday we do what we love IS Epic. ✍️⚡️🔥🫶
