Having problems cold starting 2012 sequoia ffv 5.7. Changed plugs with NGK laser iridium plugs. Replaced coolant temp sensor. Cleaned MAF sensor. Put a can of royal purple fuel system additive on last fill up. New air cleaner. Still cold engine startup. Runs perfect after warmup. Idles around 800-900 rpm’s smoothly. Any ideas ? Don’t know where to go from here.
I bought a brand new 2021 in December and it has done it since day one. I sold my son my original 2007 tundra and It did it after a 100000 miles. I run 100% 87 octane with Lucas deep clean fuel injected cleaner once every 3 months. I'm thinking fuel, timing and ECU. Sort of thought they did it intentionally so cold start without oil??? All my carbureted cars I let crank until oil pressure then pushed 2 times on the gas pedal...Just a thought
I have a basic maintenance suggestion.. disconnect your ground wires.. take a small piece of sandpaper in the tip of your finger... take a little paint off where the bolts screws into the body.. goop the screw and behind the washer with dielectric grease for max ground connection... there are a couple behind the air box too... clean and grease them.. max spark and electronic connections will make it crisp as possible...
Yup sometimes the ground wire can become faulty needs to be cleaned and then greased with electric grease never use it on your battery terminals too many times from it being removed can cause permanent slipping resulting in headaches later and replacing a terminal always use a battery brush tool you can get them at harbor freight for cheap its a 2 in 1 tool
This is clearly a flex fuel computer issue my 2012 tundra especially has hard start in lower temperatures, this by far should be a recall issue, No more tundras for me, cause no one stands behind them or the dealers act like they never heard of such a thing as hard starts (they dummy up ) I feel i just paid $27000 for a lemon Very sad here
I have a 2013 flex fuel tundra. The truck would occasionally be very hard to start even with just over 20000 miles on it. I had the Toyota dealer reflash the computer and it cost me a little more than $100 but haven’t had a hard start since the reflash and now have over 114000 miles on it.
Good to hear, I mostly use shell gas in the Tundra and Camry. Seem to run best and get optimal mpg. 93 does quiet down the 5.7 quite a bit but I typically blend it with the 87 on half a tank or better, too expensive for my blood.
My 2011 Mustang the fuel line that went into the tank went bad and it had a code for a small evap leak anyway had it fixed and it occasionally had a long crank and it turned out to be moisture in the tank ran some cleaner through the tank with a tank of 100 percent gas and drove it a couple hundred miles it is driving and starting much better now
My 2007 5.7L Tundra seems to always hesitate in starting after sitting in parking lot all day at work. I have to turn it over several times to get it to start. I checked the fuel pump relay fuses and swapped that fuse with another same amperage, with no visible change so it is not the fuse. What else cloud it be...the fuel pump maybe I always fill it up with premium gas. Any ideas on how to fix this permanently?
+Jack Wilson i do it for you guys, channel Testing. But i have experienced some of the best numbers ever in this tundra, and it has a lift and aggressive tires lol
Tundra Dude I'm also almost done with my Platinum Pro, just missing those TRD Pro Shocks(So Expensive). Luckily I was able to get a TRD Pro grille when I first picked up my 2016 tundra. Do you know if you get any lift from the stock to TRD Pro shocks? Also can you make a video about Toyota remote start? I got mines installed and it was a huge waste of money because it turns off as soon as you unlock the car.
Hey, TundraDude34, im currently in the marker for a Tundra TRD Pro, but it seems like actually getting one is a challenge, how long did you have to wait for yours?
I have a 2018 Tundra that the dealer has not been able to fix. Truck starts great when cold. After driving and sitting for around 20 minutes the truck cranks forever before it starts. Fuel pump, fuel tank and filler neck have all been replaced and nothing is different. Anyone run into this issue?
I just bought a 2012 Tundra with a hundred 30k from my local Toyota dealership used. It's a platinum and I love it. Although I find it sounds like sometimes the first two cranks are kind of slow and then it turns over
Gotcha, I am a stickler for maintenance and I can recommend the BG products if you haven't tried them. I have a 2004 Tacoma with 190k and a 2004 CRV with 315k, both bought new. Love the videos, can't wait to see the super charger install.
It only seemed to do it on mine when it was warmer out, or damp. I had Toyota check it a few times but they could never recreate it. It eventually stopped doing it all together
Tundradude after watching your previous video just now regarding the hesitant startup I realize that I have the same issue. You know what I think the issue started after the TRD intake CAI was installed i will complete your suggested checks thanks for the heads up
I bet you haven't checked your fule presser EVERYTHING depends on the assumption you have a specific amount of fuel pressure. its the first you troubleshoot with all fuel injection systems!
CamperMike there's the pressure washers that don't make enough pressure and then there's pressure washers like mine that will blow holes in cars lol 8000PSI gets things squeaky clean
This one was fine. Could have used some more. But pressure at my house sucks. The leak where the pressure hose connects got worse as I used it and got the point it wasn't much use after I washed off the front steps and my car. Tundra just got a spray off. Wasn't that dirty anyway
Boo. Where's the hands on maintenance? Gotta show it for it to be real. And what's up for 93 octane? Go 89 unless Jersey gas sucks less than PA gas, which I don't think it does. Probably a bad batch of gas or the high humidity that we had the past few weeks.
+balle27 it started in my last truck to get rid of a slight tick/knock and then I decided to do test runs on 93 for the channel, to see if there are any benefits or not
I had a bad/faulty start-up after the battery was re-connected back up after the TRD intake was installed and wondered "what that was all about". Re-checked the terminals and all hardware, it never returned. Optima or another type of premium battery would be a nice addition at some point. Made my other vehicles lights brighter and absolutely started better every time.
My guess is most likely it's your TRD muffler system. I am more then willing to help out switching with you to help out a fella Tundra owner. Just trying to help.

+mike schlup wow, thanks!
an old motorcycle racers trick...still helps with modern systems ...

A common reset always seems to help with many things!
+Daniel Smith definitely!

I wouldnt go that far but i hope you are able to get it solved. Btw im a non flex fuel Tundra

How’s it doing now ? Mine is starting to do this

Ever since i had the supercharger installed, im good to go 👍🏼

You mentioned filling up with 93 octane, do you always run premium? If so what are the advantages?
no need to reply just read the comments below.
+Jack Wilson i do it for you guys, channel
Testing. But i have experienced some of the best numbers ever in this tundra, and it has a lift and aggressive tires lol
I have the same issue with my 2013 tundra what type of gasoline did you use?
Thank you
Good stuff!! Always good when you can solve issues yourself!!!😎
+Vloggingadventureswithrob yes sir!

+Thai Luu stock to trd pro shocks adds a 2 inch leveling lift
Is it a 2 inch lift all around or just the front?
+Thai Luu you may want to check out tomorrows video 🤙🏼
TundraDude34 sweet! Thank you haha
Maybe a fuel induction system cleaning is in order.
+Gary Swope if problems persist but all seems to be well now
What makes the diagnostic plug doesn't read codes?
Hey, TundraDude34, im currently in the marker for a Tundra TRD Pro, but it seems like actually getting one is a challenge, how long did you have to wait for yours?
+Arthur Kotuzyak i ordered mine in December 2015 and received it less then a month later 👍🏼
TundraDude34 wow! Impressive, the dealership i went to said id have to wait at least 6-7 months
+Arthur Kotuzyak yea they are tough to get now, even more

I was thinking of a vacuum type issue....
+Capt Sam Wilson i feel like it had to do with the cia for sure
I just bought a 2012 Tundra with a hundred 30k from my local Toyota dealership used. It's a platinum and I love it. Although I find it sounds like sometimes the first two cranks are kind of slow and then it turns over
Why use high test gas?
+racerxnk im just running some tests with it

+racerxnk thanks dude, me neither
racerxnk no)
Mine is doing the same thing. 2019 with only 1600 miles on it. Do you know what the problem was.
It only seemed to do it on mine when it was warmer out, or damp. I had Toyota check it a few times but they could never recreate it. It eventually stopped doing it all together
What, you traded the TRD Pro for a platinum?
+rob h yep, but the for a project. Keep moving forward thru the videos to see what i built
My 2011 Tundra just been starting to do this ,when cold ,and smelling like gas.
Tundradude after watching your previous video just now regarding the hesitant startup I realize that I have the same issue. You know what I think the issue started after the TRD intake CAI was installed i will complete your suggested checks thanks for the heads up
+Dwayne Bent anytime, good luck!
I would have to say it was condensation in the fuel then when you topped it off the problem went away
+Tim Jackson could very well have been
I bet you haven't checked your fule presser EVERYTHING depends on the assumption you have a specific amount of fuel pressure. its the first you troubleshoot with all fuel injection systems!
My 09 tundra just started doing something funny. I started it up...then it died. Electrical everywhere is acting funny as well. Any idea?
Get that towed to a local toyota dealer asap
Mine just got it's second gas up and first wash. Well spray off. Stupid pressure washer
CamperMike there's the pressure washers that don't make enough pressure and then there's pressure washers like mine that will blow holes in cars lol 8000PSI gets things squeaky clean
+CamperMike awesome! i need your email when u have a chance

OK. Let be figure out how to send a pm on YT they keep changing it. lol
Sent it in a PM TY message. I figured out how to send but not how to read messages. They made things complicated.

+Dave Sabol 93 is for testing purposes, for the channel.
Toyota tundra 2008 it start up good and when you stop at gas station it won't start back up until the vehicle cool back down it start back up
Could of been just a bit of water , that caused a hick up during starting ..... I wouldn't worry
+No Ma'am 979 probably
Hey man my tundra is starting up and then the starter is still running can u help
You should take that in to the service center asap
Why are you using 93 octane? I did this 2 times and noticed no difference in mileage or performance. You doing it just so it's ready for supercharger?
+Bruno DeFrancesco im doing it for the channel. Testing
Like other people said, could have been a bad tank of gas, it happens!!
+dancemasterfreak456 that it does
Glad all is back to Normal now, happy Tundradude I'm sure. Enjoy weekend.👍👍
+donald brierley thanks brother, u do the same!
woot woot good start woot woot
Why do you run 93 octane??
+balle27 it started in my last truck to get rid of a slight tick/knock and then I decided to do test runs on 93 for the channel, to see if there are any benefits or not
He's just getting it used to what it's gonna be feasting on with that supercharger 🔥

TundraDude34 nice
I have the same ecact truck! Everything.
wait till it gets colder outside.... your issue will be back! NOT fixed!
Hmm. Mystery fix
My guess is most likely it's your TRD muffler system.
