      It was an extremely hot day and the crue were very young and drug-addled here, Vince has stated in The Dirt that he was downin jack daniels and pills before the show, pretty scary performing in front of 300k people compared to playing clubs. Did a good job for the step they took in terms of audience, Vince's best performances are when hes sober and standing still like on MTV's music awards when he sang Don't go away mad sober and to his fullest extent... sounded great! All throughout the 80s he was either too fucked up, running around on stage or worn out from touring.
      If you want to see a great overall set, check out their performance in 1987 Girls Girls Girls Des Menois :)

    I think the Crue gets a lot of scrutiny now days as it's easy to go back and really review every detail of their performances in the UA-cam era. Back then when a lot of us metalheads we're growing up, they were huge, but no one was really able to just pick over everything then. We had their albums to listen to and they sounded great on the studio albums. The live shows were just to get trashed, party, have fun and bang our heads. We didn't give two shits if Vince sounded as good as on the albums. They were huge because they knew how to rock the stage, had that presence, energy and a uniqueness that was different than all the other bands on the Hollywood strip. It's definitely easy to look back and shit on Vince but it just wasn't about that back then. We all were united in our love for Metal & having a blast.

    • @Seemsayin
      @Seemsayin 2 роки тому +13

      Good post.
      Hind sight is always 20/20. Today, everyone's a Monday morning quarterback.
      Back then, we didn't give a shit about any of that. The concerts were party venues, and we just wanted to catch a buzz and rock out. It didn't matter if they didn't sound "studio". They were there, with us, and had fun, with us. That's all that mattered.
      While I don't care to relive the 80's... I'm just glad I was a part of it. We didn't sweat not having tech, because it didn't exist. But, we did have indoor plumbing, electricity, a fat dukie, and cold beer.... We were just fine.

    Vince may not be able to keep up with the tempo, but I promise he still hits those high notes. Just saw them in Cuse and he was out of breath, but he was nailing the high shit every damn time. I was impressed. John 5 was awesome too man, of course he's not Mick, but it was damn cool to see them.

    Of all the things, one of my most cherished possessions of no real value is their Too Fast For Love cassette, that I begged my mom to buy me and she did. That cassette picture cover is so damn classic. Crue was just so full of 80s testosterone wearing nearly drag costumes, what a great time.

      I believe the coo-caine was on full display on the mirror that day b 4 the show. They were sloppy but, honestly they were very young and this was the a huge show for a bunch of 22 24 yr old guys. I was their and it rocked none the less. Glorious Day Indeed in my life for sure.
