Hey Brian & Diane, we drove past your house today unknowingly! We are viewing houses in the area, was on the road and I was like "Hey, hey, that's Portugal on a shoestring house "!!! To my hubby 😂😂. Can't believe it lol.
Another good job done i can see all your veg growing in that garden will be lovely like the way you show all your little tips to do a job love your channel
What a pleasure it is, Brian to watch this project being so well done! A great lesson to those wanting to now do the same! Hope your back got some ice pack physio. Gee, Diane, gloves sure were needed for that brick handling. Love the jazz music! 🍺 😅oh no...its the heat....one cant concentrate so well.😊
Hi there. Try to use biodegradable washing products, It's not too much more expensive and much better for the soil and your plants. There are so many bio homemade products that are surprisingly effective, cheap, and easy once you all are settled, of course. 😊 The progress you all are making is inspiring!
Thanks for the tip! Homemade cleaning products are something to look at but commercial products are significantly more expensive than the price of a "standard" product. I have checked prices today and eco versions of washing up liquid, laundry detergent, shampoo, shower gel and hand wash would cost over €32 more than the standard ones we buy now. Advice from greywater.org and RHS both said standard products do NOT harm the soil.
We will be in Portugal and staying in Aguda, Leiria next weekend. Would love to be able to connect and say hello. Either way, love your channel, Hi to Diane.
Great job!.. Perhaps consider adding a grease trap ..its surprising how much of the stuff comes out from our kitchen drain alone...I once dug a soakaway for a shower outlet without a grease trap.... became a horrible mess very quickly.. GhostTown flog has a recent video installing one.. but they are easy to make as well..
Great job Bri 👍.. Hope Di is well & you’re dealing with the heat currently . Sent you an email a few weeks back, no idea if it got lost in transit lol . Enjoy your weekend guys 👍
Thank you, Diane is well and it is nice and comfortable inside the house thanks to the two foot thick stone walls. We have answered every email we have received, try sending again and I will keep an eye out for it🙂
Hi Brian and Diane. You do right digging a bit at a time. I'd do the same. Now that the weather is warmer. Have you noticed a difference in the kitchen now that you have insulated the ceiling is it cooler. Are you going to be doing all of the renovation yourself or will you be getting help. You mentioned the electrics. Twin and earth. Do they use earth. The plugs only look like 2 pin plugs. Hopefully my deeds get signed on the 19th if all goes through,
Thank you. We haven't noticed any difference in temperature but the house stays reasonably cool anyway due to the thick stone walls. We intend to do as much of the renovation as we possibly can, however we are getting a professional in to replace the tiles on the rear of the main house. They are old and cracked and, while I would be able to do the work, it makes more sense to get someone in who actually knows what they are doing as any mistakes would have a big knock on effect with interior work. As regards electricity, they do indeed use an earth on the sockets. If you look closely at a European socket you will see two brass clips/springs at the top and bottom. These are the earth connections and engage with two silver strips on European plugs. If your property is older there may not be an earth to the fusebox though. You need to install an earth spike yourself if that is the case (1-1.5metre copper plated rod driven into the ground and connected by cable to the fusebox) easy enough job to do yourself, no need for electricians. Good luck with your property purchase, I hope all goes well 🙂
Thanks Brian I may bring some twin and earth. I'll get a sparky to do my rewire. Or maybe watch a few UA-cam videos on rewiring. Look forward to seeing your next one,
Hi, thanks for your question. As mentioned in the video, this system is for grey water only. For any who do not know , grey water is water from sinks, showers, washing machines etc. Sewage (solids & urine from toilets) is sent to an existing septic tank on the property. 🙂
Thank you for the detailed explanation of the entire process!
I like the way you work and explain, thank you!
You're very welcome!😊
Super neat install 👍😎 and great job digging that big hole by hand 👏
Thank you 😊

Good advice, thanks 😊
Good work getting there pace not race 😂😂😂
That's very true! Thank you 😊
Wrong days mentioned…is that the mistake? ….easily done ….and great work on your grey water area
Aghhh should have watched till the end…see what mistake you mean now
Wait for it😉
Haha, there you go 😂
So, is that going to replace a septic tank? It looks like it will handle the liquids, but what about the solids?
