Julian never needed to ride his famous father's coat tails. He definitely possesses talent as evidenced by this blast from the past. I love this catchy tune and it's taking me back to a happy time. Thank you, Debbie, for this savvy pick. I echo your sentiments, too, Harri -- great reaction!
Not only his father's voice but he's got substantial songwriting talent too. It's a shame that his career didn't further blossom. Great selection, Debbie. Thanks, Harri.
So many people seemed to resent him.... Looks like his dad, not as good, sounds like dad, not as good, riding dad's coattails, couldn't make it, except for his dad.... I was so disgusted with all the BS this man went through. Yes he looks a lot like his dad, yes he sounds quite a lot like him as well.... He also had his very own talent. It was a shame he was driven out of performing.
Well this is one person who has his cds .. and loves his music and he is still recording … last cd was out 2022 his 7th and now and again does concerts … so he is hardly pushed out ..he’s doing his music career his way
Probably my favorite Julian song from his 1984 debut album, "Valotte", his hauntingly beautiful vocals so reminiscent of John's voice. With what he described as a galloping, raggae back beat, this is riddled with John. The drums, the guitars, the harmonies so beautiful. It was Julian's biggest hit. It made it to Number 6 in the UK, Number 5 on the Billboard Hit 100, Number 1 in Canada and Number 1 for two weeks on the Adult Contemporary charts. The music video was directed by Sam Peckinpah. Super reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Debbie. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
We were all very happy when Julian released this, sounding just like John was very refreshing for all of us, and to see the talent was handed down to him was way cool, we were all very happy and proud for Julian.
It's the "too laaaaaate" where he really sounds like John. Great song in it's own right though. A lot of Julian's stuff is really good. Great reaction as always!! 🙂
There was talk of forming a "Sons of the Beatles" group with James McCartney, Dhani Harrison, either Julian or Sean Lennon and either Zack or Jason Starkey. James was trying to put it together, but much like their fathers they were unable to get everyone on the same page. This was Julian's best song, but not his only good one. I recommend "Salt Water" for your next listen.
It’s about time someone listened to this. I had always thought Julian would have made a good replacement for John if the Beatles had ever decided to do a reunion.
I find this song deep. I fell for the legal beatle when I saw a piture of him at 9. Julian's photography is like harry Pottery But your there up close in that moment. I will never know what depth of pure love you give. You share yourself so freely with Measured control.
I saw him in concert when he was promoting this album. He's really good and I was surprised he didn't have a bigger career. I believe John's other son Sean sings too but I'm not familiar with his work. I saw a picture of Jullian Lennon recently at the AMFAR event in Cannes with Adam Lambert. You should do a reaction to Beverly Knight and Adam Lambert singing I Can't Stand the Rain at her show at Mighty Hoopla. They're incredible singing together!
Julian's voice is very similar to his father's only without the raspy voice, he sounds very good indeed. Another of his songs that you might enjoy is 'Day after Day'.
Given his personal history, this song could be interpreted as Julian Lennon's message to his dad, who left him when he was young. Julian tells us that this is not the case. "Initially it was about a girl, a relationship," he said. "Then it was a few other friends in the room and I was bouncing ideas back and forth.
@Straydogger in the video there is a guy in the shadows dancing who I always thought it was meant to be John, between that and the words I just assumed it was about him. I never did any research on the song. Thanks.
Love this song and love Julian Lennon, he is a truly beautiful soul. He must have been a hurt and resentful at some point, but he got past it and was the bigger and better person for it. The fact that he reached out to Sean and they became very close, is wonderful. Harri, if you haven't heard 'Salt Water', you should, talk about sound like John, and it even has a masssive Beatles vibe to it. Thanks Harri, and Debbie. ❤
I like it, I heard it, Julian Lennon is very similar to his father, I'm sure if John Lennon were alive, he would write more hits and good songs, but he never fully revealed his talent.
My reaction was kind of like yours the first time I heard this, Harri - I was trying to figure out which Beatle sang it - Paul? No, George? Posthumous John? When I realized who it was, I was both flabbergasted and unsurprised. Thanks for the reaction to a very overlooked song and artist.
Never understood why his career didn’t go farther. He sounded just like his father, and the the song was very good. Maybe the Beatles fans couldn’t accept anyone replacing John.
You know record companies he may have looked and sounded too much like his dad, honestly to us 80s babies we didn't really know the beatles like that, we knew McCartney better from Wings and John on his own, like Woman and wheels. Julian was his own person to us, we kids loved it!
I had high hopes for Julian to continue with a great musical career based on this amazing debut single released in 1984. It just hit all the right spots. He is obviously talented in his own right beyond the legacy of his amazing father. It was not to be, although he did create some additional music with some limited success. I love Harri’s insights on this one. Hail Canada for knowing a great song when it surfaces. 🌺✌️
I saw an interview with him in which he stated that he was never quite sure if people really liked his music or if the attention was a form of morbid curiosity.
For as much controversy that swirled around his political activist ideals, John Lennon will never be forgotten. He was the Ultimate Beatle. Yes he does sound like him.
You may change your opinion of this being a “very nice song” when you watch the official music video that was all over MTV back in the day… Julian was pretty much abandoned by John from a very young age… these lyrics hint at the turmoil of this young man after the death of a father who basically walked out on his son… (hint, who is that shadowy man in the doorway on the video?… we all know)… The release of this song hit pretty hard in 1984… our heads knew John was dead but our ears heard his voice! Julian released a new album a few months back that is very much worth a listen, “Jude”.
It's even spookier if you watched the official video to see how much he also looks like his father! He's a wonderful man and incredible photographer.

La viva imagen de John Lennon en todo sentido de la palabra.
This is such a good song!!
Not only his father's voice but he's got substantial songwriting talent too. It's a shame that his career didn't further blossom. Great selection, Debbie. Thanks, Harri.
Dont worry Yoko broke down and gave him a lot of money. 😊

I bought and loved Valotte, too, when it first came out.
It's uncanny how much Jude sounds like his dad.
We were all very happy when Julian released this, sounding just like John was very refreshing for all of us, and to see the talent was handed down to him was way cool, we were all very happy and proud for Julian.
You also need to hear a song called Valotte.
"Say you're wrong" is also a great song
When this song came out, it was really good to hear it cause yes, he sounded exactly like his dad. Always loved it
So haunting but yet blessed that he sounds just like his dad. I would have love to see him and John Lennon do a duet
that would of been great
I Love this song, and Julian❤ this was the 80s. Michael J. Fox is in the video. "Stick around"
This is such a good song! He looks and sounds like his dad. He had a couple of good tunes back in the day. This one was always my favourite.
I love this song by Julian. Thanks Debbie and Harri.
You’re welcome Cynthia. Kudos to Canada for recognizing talent and driving this to number one ❤️🇨🇦
It's the "too laaaaaate" where he really sounds like John.
Great song in it's own right though. A lot of Julian's stuff is really good.
Great reaction as always!! 🙂
Very good song Debbie Chang!!! Glad you liked it Harri!! It does sound so much like John. I'm sure Julian got that all the time.
Thanks Imadrummin. I always loved this song.
more Julian suggestions Stick Around (music Video), I don't wanna know , Saltwater & Valotte
I loved the Vallote album.
Heartbreakingly beautiful song.
Two more bangers from the same album, "Say You're Wrong" and the title track "Valotte."
I love Julian oh my God
You can just hear Johns voice in Julian
This is beautiful and one of the saddest songs I have ever heard!
It’s about time someone listened to this. I had always thought Julian would have made a good replacement for John if the Beatles had ever decided to do a reunion.
and Dhani for George
Valotte is even more spooky sounding-exactly John lennon.
This was produced by Phil Ramone, who produced many top artists, including, at about the same time, Billy Joel.
This was a great album.
Chuck Berry jammed with John Lennon and later with Julien Lennon. Both videos are on UA-cam.

Beverleyis baad ass!
Timeless ❤
Hey bestie!! I've always loved this tune, one of my faves from the era. 😊
Wow, sounds lots like his dad, looks quite a lot like him too.
👍I was so lucky to have seen Julian live in concert in 1985. Sydney, Australia.
Masterpice ,great song🎼🎩🎸🎶🎶🎶✌️
Julian's voice is very similar to his father's only without the raspy voice, he sounds very good indeed. Another of his songs that you might enjoy is 'Day after Day'.
Spooky!
If you didn't know it was Julian, you would swear his song "Day After Day" was actually The Beatles. It's so awesome
My favorite songs from Julian are this and Now You’re In Heaven.
Very sad song about his relationship with his Dad.
You know i wondered about those lyrics? I thought is this about his dad? Then i thought i was being dramatic 🤣🤣
Given his personal history, this song could be interpreted as Julian Lennon's message to his dad, who left him when he was young. Julian tells us that this is not the case. @@chitownlee And you’d be correct!
@@Straydogger Explanation is way too easy, it’s a message to John.
I love this song

Your reaction was pretty much everyone's when they heard this song.
Que musica linda, só saudades anos 80.
Need to listen to his song, Way to Your Heart.
Written about his father, one of a few to John from Julian's debut after his father's demise.
Great song sound like Papa though
This is the best song by a Beatles son. Closely followed by Seans Parachute, that album is like John releasing an indie album
Saltwater is a wonderful song by Julian Lennon
I also like Valotte
@@sourisvoleur4854 Valotte is so good, it sounds like it's a new Beatles style
I ❤ Sean's "Friendly Fire" lp. "Spectical" is my fav from the lp. But "Parachute" is good too.
@@B.R.0101 Agree. Very Beatlesque.
HE LAID IT DOWN HEAVY!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!! TRUE SERECT VALUES OF DAY DREAMING WAS HIS BEST ALBUM. HIS CATALOG IS SICK!!
I like it, I heard it, Julian Lennon is very similar to his father, I'm sure if John Lennon were alive, he would write more hits and good songs, but he never fully revealed his talent.
"Hey Jules."
Julian of Hey Jude fame.
Oh so glad you ate checking this song out. But also Julian's music.❤❤ I love his music. Talented in his own right. Enjoy Harri, and Thank you.
I have always loved this song! Happy to hear it again💕

Yes. Julian Lennon definitely looks and sounds just like his father John Lennon. It really is uncanny.
Listen to valotte by Julian Lennon
George’s son sounds like him too.
I saw an interview with him in which he stated that he was never quite sure if people really liked his music or if the attention was a form of morbid curiosity.
Harri you should listen to Julian's song "Saltwater" from 1991
I get Sheryl Crow "all i wanna do" vibes from this.
i suggest ' Salt Water' for a different one to listen to by Julian
For as much controversy that swirled around his political activist ideals, John Lennon will never be forgotten. He was the Ultimate Beatle. Yes he does sound like him.

Who wrote this? Did John or Julian write this?
Julian
Heartbreakingly poignant.
Yeah! He's John's son. But! He has the talent. Just didn't get it.
It’s an old song. You probably had heard it.
So you say he is old?? joking
