I think it was Spassky who described Tal as "a man with truly no grudges." meaning that he had no hard feelings against anybody including his chess rivals, a quite uncommon kindness in the chess world.

That's not hwat he meant by the Alekhine remark. Tal quite openly criticizes the Soviet regime for treating Spassky poorly by not inviting him to tournaments. Regarding the Alekhine remark....He basically says the only good "french" chessplayers of the last 250 years were Alekhine and Spassky (russian origin).
As Soviet television was always 100% scripted those were not Tal's words or they had an audition beforehands.... and since these were the 80ies...the time of glasnost and perestroika....you can see the little changes...the message now is not: we are the USSR and perfect! the message here is....yes, we made mistakes but we are still better than the west :D quite funny actually

@@peterfrank6216 It is not about the "regime", it is more about the decision of their chess federation. Honestly, they did not need neither Alekhine nor Spasskiy. They had an amazing force of chess players without them as well, they dominated after the departure of Spasskiy easily. Does Russia dominate now? Not any longer...
It was also a criticism of the French chess activity that they could not show up a competitive player without their imported ones.
"The Frenchmen haven't been so active since Napoleonic times or so"
LOL 🤣 It is strange that everyone here only wants to see a criticism towards the soviet regime, I much more laughed at this part.

Note that many Russians hate the perestroïka that they associate with a major decline of their country. It has never been, it was just about telling the truth and stopping to hide what was really happening, but with Putin as leader it isn't going to be admitted any time soon.

Mikhail Tahl is amazing. He gives me the impression that he is not simply one of the greatest, or perhaps the greatest genius in chess, but a human being of another level. His immense intelligence, his deep vision of events, his bravery, his integrity, go beyond the field of chess and transport him to the world of the immortals. It reminds me, to a certain extent, of Socrates. How great Don Milhael Tahl. Thank you for the immense legacy you have left us, a legacy that goes beyond chess, that enters the deepest human values. There were, there are and will be great chess geniuses, but there will never be anyone who can match him. There will never be another Don Mikhail Tahl. Thanks, Master. 🌟🙏

    Transcript; 00:01
Mikhail Nehemievich, I’m master Evgeny Dragomaretsky, the deputy director of a youth sports school. Can you tell us something about Boris Vasilievich Spassky’s life, who lives abroad for the last few years?
    00:10
Boris Vasilievich Spassky is an outstanding Soviet grandmaster. He’s married to a French woman with Russian origins and plays chess less frequently now.
    00:23
It’s a pity he doesn’t visit the Soviet Union too often, but alas, the workers of the USSR Sports Committee and USSR Chess Federation did everything they could to discourage Boris Vasilievich to visit the Soviet Union.
    00:45
He wanted to play at the USSR Spartakiads, he wanted to play at USSR Championship, but he was told he wasn’t needed there.
    00:54
And it all culminated before the “Match of the Century”, that wasn’t as much a tournament as it was a festival of Soviet chess, an exhibition of Soviet chess.
    01:09
The ex-World Champion, a brilliant player wasn’t invited to play. Is it ridiculous? It is. Is it absurd? It is. Is it sad? It is very sad.
    01:22
So, now Boris Spassky heads the French team. His experience and authority awakened the dormant French chess life.
    01:35
The Frenchmen haven’t been so active since Napoleonic times or so! :)
    01:43
Now they perform great at the Olympics, qualified for the World Cup… and it’s all due to activity of one man.
    01:49
So now we’ll just have to feel sorry that Boris Spassky had become France’s second greatest chess player, behind Alexander Alekhine! :)

Да и страны он эмигрировал совершенно легально,женившись на француженке,а затем ещё несколько лет представлял СССР на международной арене.
