I love your approach! I try to use my phones for as long as possible, to limit e-waste, but also because I'm just lazy tbh. Worked pretty well for my last phone, the Pixel 2, which I used until it didn't receive updates anymore. Then I had to upgrade and went for the Pixel 6 Pro, hoping to use it for 5 years at least. But now, after less than 2 years, it has screen issues. Sending it to repair would be annoying and expensive. And I think it's just a mechanical issue, so why can't I just do it by myself? So now I hope it doesn't get worse. But if it dies, I'm strongly considering the Fairphone 5, you really got it right, it ticks pretty much all the boxes for me! The most important ones are long term support and repairability, and you really nail that! It's just a little big for my taste (similar to the Pixel 6 Pro, I really preferred the Pixel 2's size), and I hope the cameras/microphones are good enough because I got used to the Pixel's quality.
Would love to see some upgradability in the future, like better camera or wireless charger module, and of course better CPU so instead of buying a whole new phone I could just upgrade the old parts for better and newer parts. still a big fan and I love the fairbuds XL. Hope to see more tech like this in the future.
The QCM6490 (eqivalent to a 782G) has gotten its successor (QCM8550, eqivalent to an 8gen2) a few months ago. That could provide for a very nice (albeit expensive) upgrade package.

Well, If headphones and a charger are a problem for you, then the fairphone is probably not the right device for you either. Mind you. One of those costs about 700€. You can have a headphone-adapter or a charger for roughly 15€.
For wireless earbuds - i would honestly recommend some pq earbuds. They have magnetically attached batteries and two spare batteries within the case. So when you lose charge on the batteries you can just hot swap the earbud batteries out from the charger case and put the empty battery pair to recharge in the case as you continue to use the new battery sticks/continue using the earbuds. The microphone quality on those earbuds is not too great however...and in my experience the battery sticks last 3 hours before needing a recharge(as opposed to the 6 hours advertised). Fairphone has the potential to become the "Framework" of phones - a modular device that also looks sleek and beautiful.
I think it will be better if you release chipset every 2-3 years, which can be swapped on older device. This chipset will definitely feel slow in 4-5 years.

I know alot of people dont use the 3.5 mm headphone jack anymore, but some still do, and in the name on modularity, it think it would be really cool if you could make it an option to have one. Maybe you have to sacrifice a certain component or functionality but I think giving the consumer the choice is definitely the best option.
I love the upgrades but I still would want to see IP67. An immersion resistant phone and a good case has saved me more times than I can count and has kept my iPhone XR running for years. Water resistance is the most important day to day factor for me just because one mistake and your whole device is out of commission.
Water is not that huge problem if you can remove the battery. It is completely fine to wash most of the phone internals with water and then dry them. The problem appears when you mix water and electricity, that most likely will cause corrosion. So, while it is not waterproof, it still have high chances to survive if handled correctly.
@@Fairphone I mean, the samsung xcover 6 pro pulled off a removable battery with ip68 water immersion resistance, however I do see what you mean, for now the current ingress protection rating is definitely very good and meets and even beats the standards of the older flagship phones that had removable batteries. Fairphone is starting to be good phone overall. Not only as a repairable phone. Still I'm so disappointed because it again doesn’t have headphone jack.
@@ryancoombs772 Adapters always add unnecessary problems. Compatibility, price, sometimes loss of quality. They brake, you lose them, you don’t have them around when needed… Those that can charge phone while listening, are hard to find, expensive and have even more problems. I already use adapters connected to audio jack, and now I need adapters of adapters ffs. I could understand it if 3.5mm jack was some expensive and hard to implement technology, but it isn’t. Reasons given by fairphone are pure marketing BS. People who don’t need audio jack probably won’t notice if it’s included or not, but for people who use it regularly it’s game changer.
Brilliant !!!This videos shows what saving environment and reducing carbon footprint looks like. However you should seriously consider launching this phone in India
I'm sorry but the lack of a headphone jack and having the camera notch get turned into an actual punchhole camera is just a huge no for me. I don't like phones following modern trends and I honestly think still this is such a stupid idea. The other things are really great but for me it's really important to have a headphone jack honestly. And having the camera literally in the screen is just annoying to look at.
That's fixed with a small adapter, if you really want to use the headphone jack. USB-C is a universal port, which is easier and more efficient to integrate as a module. Also better to make dust and waterproof. An USB-C port is also a lot smaller. An OLED screen isn't that easy to introduce as a module, it's thinner and probably other issues. TL;DR, you can still use your 3.5mm headphone.

This way the device can't collect audio telemetry from its surrounding, and the mic is only live when I want it to be (i.e. on a call).
The Shiftphone will have a Killswitch i think
they did announce teatlie hat the faurphone 4 will-be/is avalable on the United astatrd, through a partnership with murena. and it can be Preloaded with an operating system based on E is, wchich might be of some intrest, too. Murena faurphone 4.
Perhaps this offer will be texted, or has been, to the fairphone 5, at some point.
Just ordered mine on Amazon for use in USA with Mint Mobile ($15 a month for unlimited everything). Can't wait! Transparent edition FTW!
Still no headphones jack. SMH
World is healing with companies like this
So strange that this thing doesn't have a headphone jack 🤔😢
Please let us buy it here in México, I love your ideology since 1st fairphone, I wish you huge success ya'll are helping to change the excesive consumer habits, keep going!!!
great phone but why doesnt it still have a headphone jack
Thank you! Finally at least one company thinks about customers. The fact that I can change battery or another part this phone by myself is a big deal for me. I wish you will not give on this idea. This phone officially is not selling in my country but i still will purchase it.
Love it but I think the headphone jack would be a cool idea and sellingpoint to add
A cheaper model that doesn't have an OLED screen and has a more basic camera would be nice to bring the price down as well...
@@thetechdogyeah but I think it would be too expensive for Fairphone because each phone has to be newly designed
@@wotzinator6282 yeah but it wouldn’t profit since you need to work every single one in. It’s a cool idea to do that but I don’t think they’ll do this until they get more known
@@wotzinator6282 No. Its more work to design your phone in modules and its even more work, if you want to have compatibility with multiple modules. First you have to design multiple modules and than the comunication between each of these modules. It's like in a car. you cant exchange parts. You need to be sure they will fit and work with the rest of the system corectly.
Yes indeed. Headphones jack is a must for me. I'm sill holding on to Samsung S9+ from 2018.
I will soon be a proud owner of fairphone 5 I can hardly wait❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wishing the best and more success for this ethical and worker friendly company
Please only thing that bothers me with the phone is that there is no option to double tap button to open flash light (i'm using that constantly everyday) please make a update to add this to gestures! it is the only thing otherwise perfect! at least for me
well battery life could be better but i'd get a battery upgrade anything notthing else bothers me that much as a superuser
I would have bought it in a heart beat if it had a headphone jack
Same here.
The Screen and the Chipset aren't great but I can overlook that. Removing 3.5 and then not even an IP rating to make up for it?

Hoping the Fairphone becomes available globally soon 🙏💕
Please make smaller screen phones like 5.8 Inches. Currently its hard to find smaller phones especially "In Budget" segment.
Stunning work, the phone looks great, I will wait for its availability in North America.
they did announce they the fairphone 4, woild-be/is avalable on the U. S, through a partnership with murena, I believe. So, there that. Perhaos, at some point if not so far, that can be extended to the fairphone 5. Murena and fairphone working together.
No headphone jack, brilliant.
I hit the like button after a long time, Louis rossman will be happy and we all should be. Corporate greed is killing our environment, this is a positive step towards sustainability while remaining pocket friendly in these inflationary times.
No headphone jack or something? Show the top/bottom/sides of the phone!!!
They have moved away form the port, proclaiming that it is more enviromentally friendly for you to purchase to-be waste dongles or move to unrepairable bluetooth headsets for some reason. Following mainstream trends probably.
@@kHolm oh ok thanks
@@kHolm No the reason has to do with waterproof... headphone jack isn't waterproof enough.
@@MelroyvandenBergboth zenfone 10 by asus and sony xperia 1 have ip-ratings of 68 and maintain the port. The fairphone still holds an ip-grading of 54. please look around before posting.
Now that I see this video, I will definitely go for the Fairphone 5!
The is the phone everyone is waiting for, knowingly or unknowingly! 🤞
It is :) looks so good! I still have my fairphone 4 going strong, but the new one looks soo good!
Imagine a phone that you can upgrade by simply swapping out parts as technology advances. Whether it's a new battery chemistry, camera sensor, chipset, or screen, this concept is truly remarkable! Fairphone has the potential to become the "Framework" of phones - a modular device that also looks sleek and beautiful.
I think it will be better if you release chipset every 2-3 years, which can be swapped on older device.
This chipset will definitely feel slow in 4-5 years.
This would be awesome! I hope we eventually get there. Love the idea to upgrade parts of the phone as time goes by, just like we did when desktop PCs were still a thing.
@@VeitLehmannor with, I believe, framework laptops. perhaos atooany new updates there, but all the processors fit inside the same chassis and work with all or msot all th same components.
The narrator's accent is elegant,It feels like an ASMR!
Wow 😮 the cameras are impressive 😍😍😍
average compared to the competition...
Wow. The special octacore long life chipset is what i need on my device.
Please put a 3.5mm jack on the next phone
....... No headphone jack..... I want to support this so bad.....! But I really need a headphone jack.....
honest to god, like how is no headphone jack still industry standard? hot garbage trend
@@jamesducharme1711 i agree. And I cant stand it.....
Great idea and the best thing is people could customise their phone like in different parts of differnt colors❤
Add the headphone jack
I have one, and I'm very pleased with it. It ticked all the boxes for me.
They removed the headphone jack..
But don't worry, they sell air buds, so eco friendly 🎉😂
they sell usb c to jack adapters for 10€..
Possibility to replace battery is more important.
@@Fairphone I mean, the samsung xcover 6 pro pulled off a removable battery with ip68 water immersion resistance, however I do see what you mean, for now the current ingress protection rating is definitely very good and meets and even beats the standards of the older flagship phones that had removable batteries. I love the sound of this new screen.
I hope you integrate a charging limit feature to stop charging at 85% like Samsung
Fairphone is starting to be good phone overall. Not only as a repairable phone.
Still I'm so disappointed because it again doesn’t have headphone jack.
Who doesn’t own wireless earphones in 2023?
@@whatthefuxxx a lot of people. I have both wireless and wired earphones and I often wish wish I could use wired ones with my phone.
Not possible to use a usbc to headphone adapter?
@@ryancoombs772ewww it's not sustainable!!!!
You guys are heroes, this will be my next phone, up until my current 5 year old phone stops working
No headphone jack, no buy. Sorry fairphone, hopefully there'll be one on the FP6 🙏
90Hz. You got me, I'm in
No ''everyone'' was shouting cause of the headphonejack
That's fixed with a small adapter, if you really want to use the headphone jack. USB-C is a universal port, which is easier and more efficient to integrate as a module. Also better to make dust and waterproof. An USB-C port is also a lot smaller. An OLED screen isn't that easy to introduce as a module, it's thinner and probably other issues. TL;DR, you can still use your 3.5mm headphone.
