This has got to be one of the most important maintenance series on youtube rn
Keep up the great work bro! I have 460 with 243k miles and I find your videos so informative and have mad respect for your expertise and detail. I couldn’t imagine getting under that engine!
So frustrating! I've definitely been there too. Rooting for you Marty!!!That's NOT an easy engine to work on for sure.
my IS-F had the valley plate resealed at the dealer, and they pinched the O-RING as well. The 2nd time they did it, they pressure tested the cooling system once the valley plate was installed to ensure the O-RING wasn't pinched
Keep it up bro! You're still doing a great job. You have so much time in it. I know you will see it through 💯
Rooting for you dude. I know nothing about cars but this is extremely cool.
I have a car (will not disclose make and model for now), not saying I know what you are going through, but in a nut shell, I had to pull the engine three times until it finally ran as it should, no more codes. And when I bought it the car had just passed inspection, seems to me the inspection was bribed in the process.
Stay on course my friend! And thanks for sharing!
Crazy story man! Love watching your vids as per usual. Really enjoy how you shoot it and capture the process, easy to watch.
Solid update! It sucks you are going through all these issues, but I suppose it does make for some suspenseful content. 😂 Looking forward to the video where it’s all buttoned up and runs like a top for you.
I am amazed at your fortitude in working on a very complex engine. Mine is a 2010 and love it. Had the valley plate redone a few years ago and some other things but nothing like you have gone through. Thank you for making the videos and hopefully, you will be driving it a lot.
Brother, you are one hell of a Mechanic. My sincerest compliments, and new subscriber
Great videos man, just one word of advice. Replace most things, ESPECIALLY if the part is cheap. (ie. Water Pipe) For the fuel injectors and the labor/time you're putting into this, I'd send those off and get those remanned/cleaned. And for the little things, deep clean everything as this will make a big difference to see what is actually leaking later on. And all of this will make the best difference for piece of mind and down the road maintainence.
I hope the ls460 is doing okay Marty 😪 waiting for an update
That waterneck o-ring likes to roll or pinch when installing. You gotta be super careful. I was going to upgrade to this car but i think i'll keep my LS430, with 260K miles it runs like new and not as complicated to fix.
Great videos and I appreciate your knowledge and taking this on yourself. I currently own a 2017 LS460L and love it (second LS I’ve owned). Only 38000 miles on mine and only regular service by the dealership, so good to know they can go as long as yours. What I really wanted to ask was how you liked the CarPodGo display for your Apple CarPlay and how you went about mounting it? It’s a shame there’s no other real solution for this but the CarPodGo looks kinda promising. I suspect your cup holders are somewhat disabled when using it?
buy 3 ls400's or 1 and a turbo set up lol. Good work boss these engines are very touchy with all the emissions and direct injection stuff.
Great info so far but for me you just reinforced my thinking and motto that it is crucial to do a thorough check and all the due diligence when buying a vehicle.
Definitely, this was a hard thing to see has there weren’t any codes or any issues until about 2 hours into the way home from buying it private sale
@@MartyMotoring but this is buying a car 101. Everyone who tries to hide codes resets the battery and then hopes that they don’t come on during the test drive. This is why I ask to check the engine codes as condition of sale. To ensure nothing is ‘not ready’.
@@DG-hq6rc For sure - this was definitely an interesting one as everything showed as ready when scanned, and the car had definitely been driven recently. I’ve purchased 26 cars in the past and I guess at some point I am bound to have bad luck lol.
The misfire only showed up above 5k rpm. I drove 5 hours to get it, and it drove home great besides the misfire that showed up.
After digging in, I think it was due to driving it softly and low rpm and with 87 octane, since 91+ was very expensive there. The injectors were very dirty.
@@MartyMotoringso in summary what all ended up being wrong with the car?
Love the LS (I've had 3x 460s but it's def the least reliable.)
The only problem I got is my tire pressure sensor. It does for like a full day then the light comes back on
Keep going and I think it needs recheck the plugs and reprogramming the sensor,.
Will done 🎉
The guy that bought your supercharged is350 just put it up for sale. You should buy it back 😮
I've watched all previous videos, and this looks like a pretty expensive repair. I can feel your frustration, tbh. Have you thought along the way if there was a need to do this repair at all?
$8,000 is what he would spend easily if it goes to a shop. $1,000 and labor is almost free, besides time.
To fix the misfire, valley plate and leaking valve covers I had to do all this unfortunately
Kudos for keeping at it. Will be a great car once you get it right. Looks great in black.
Thanks! Yes it’s so sleek
Marty do you use OEM Toyota parts/gasket etc. I had issues when not using OEM parts. For the Fault Codes there are procedures for everything to find out the cause. Lexus is still a good car with that mileage its nothing.
Yup used all OEM parts etc, just the nature of the job. Mostly the injectors that are problematic
Carry a fire extinguisher HALON..GOOD VIDEO
what was the song that played at the end
Farewell by Blinding Downpour - it’s my solo music project
I'm curious. Did you look to see if there was carbon build up in the valves because of the direct injection!?
It also has port injection like a IS 350 so that shouldn't be a problem
I was really hoping the 2013+ 460s were more reliable than the previous years . Do you think you got a not well maintained model or is it generally true of 2013+ ls460s?
Probably not well maintained. As V8 go they're reliable if you service them.
I have a 08 GS460 (same engine) at 81k no engine issues. I change the oil twice a year. The only thing that went was the radiator.
Just do the maintenance when you get it spark plugs coolant and oil and you should be fine.
It's the suspension parts that are expensive on an LS. That's why I went with the GS
With the cam shaft codes I would double check the wires in the connectors I got a code like that once pushed the wires in more and it never came back
Would you recommend buying one to daily in 2024? Looking at a 2009 120K miles or 2013 with 150k
Just be ready to deal with the common issue with are control arms, brake actuators, valley plate and injectors
Well done its not easy going through all that .......I think u shud have just kept ur ISF
I think about that some days but the comfort from this car is awesome now that I’m getting older lol
I’d never trust a non lexus mechanic with any engine or transmission related work.
Cary a fire extinguisher. HALON
The LS 460 is a nice drive but has inherent problems. The same cannot be said for a LS 600H which has good feedback and that 5 litre engine is far more reliable.
It’s funny because it’s almost the same engine with very similar design. I had an ISF that was the same engine
@@MartyMotoring It could be that the 600h is assisted by the battery hybrid system leading to less operational stress for the engine. For a non-mechanic I commend you doing the work yourself.
How much you payed for it?
He wouldn't say... Probably much more than it was worth.
Most expensive Lexus series to fix. The LS 460
From what I am hearing is all 2013+ LS460 have these engine issues. Stay far away from the LS460. Has nothing to do with the mileage of this car or how well it was or not kept.
Go watch the 'Car Care Nut' who is a mechanic with 1 million subs and talks about these LS460's.
I have followed him for years and of course he made that video right after I needed it lol in the midst of repairs. Dealt with the same stuff. The ISF is the same engine setup and I had one too, the valley plate leaks and the DI injectors go bad
You don’t need a disclaimer that you aren’t a mechanic.
You’d be surprised how many requests I get to fix people’s cars but I’m just trying to get my own running 😅
I said once I said twice I said almost a 100 times on your repairs and channel this car is a money pit😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
If I paid dealer prices, yeah. Luckily doing it myself I only have about $1500 into it and learned a lot. Gonna be fresh! But the repairs can add up quick $ like any luxury car
Definitely a nice car!! Hopefully you have it all straight soon
Scary because I own a 14 with 105k , do recommend a coolent flush? To avoid these issues? Dealer is recommending it..
It’s always a good idea to do a coolant flush but unfortunately it won’t avoid any valley plate leak. The gasket maker sealant just starts to break down over time which is why that happens
@@MartyMotoring TY for replying. Do you recommend having the gasket maker sealant replace while they are doing the coolant flush?
Total and part it out
That’d be even more work for a car that is clean and everything else works great. And I have a small loan on it, so I’d rather fix it lol.
The injectors have a plastic covering which are known to crack. The injector seals go bad too. Once these cars have over 100,00 miles problems pile up
Prenez les europeennes c est x100
Had to replace a few injectors so far, yup. And all the seals too
Is it done yet?
😏
Was debating between a 430 vs a 460
Your series has sealed the decision
Good luck 👍
430 is way more simplistic without the direct injection, but timing belt instead
What about ls600? Are they reliable?
