For anyone who doesn't know, as a Russian speaker and fan of Ilya's Instagram, I can say his strength levels aren't just results ''nattiness''. Apart from his long layoff, unknowing whether the ban would be reduced and competing be possible, when Ilya returned, prior to even reaching decent form, he suffered a legitimate back injury, basically leaving him on set-back mode for the last year. Notwithstanding this, more mysteriously, he also spent the year suffering leg weakness (hence missed jerks and wobbly snatches), saying he has ''cold legs''/ lack of blood flow etc. In roughly the last 2 months, post- Worlds, Ilya instagrammed about seeing specialist doctors to uncover the mystery cause, quickly following up it's been possibly discovered, however will only be revealed if a 205kg jerk materialises at Doha (with ''reserve''). Whatever the cause is, Ilya admits feeling ''silly'' for having missed it before. Anyway, following this update, Ilya's strength and enthusiasm appears vastly improved in all consequent training vids. It's truly touching seeing such smaller lifts matter so much now more vicious fighting's required for progress.
I keep meaning to reply to this, but alas... too grim. Obvs the predicted glory didn't occur. Ilya hasn't since mentioned his legs at all, I've checked. His reasoning for the subpar performance was quite vague, as if he didn't himself understand it, saying he struggled to find the fire and old self when on the platform. He sort of talked out aloud reasoning as to why, saying ''maybe I consider it too light'', which I think was meant as basically the depression of lifting lighter getting to him. I dunno why the fuss was made about I'm winning the comp after that, as Messo was clearly de-loading, however I hope the scenario re-lit some fire. Ilya seems to falter between the goal being to simply reach the Olympics, get a medal at the Olympics, and win the damn thing. The post-Doha recap, from what I remember, was about simply trying to make the Olympics at all.
@@prep0763 I think deffo this… It's the overhead bit which has become unstable, even with returned leg strength. The part where hyperextension happens.
I just started watching your videos about a month ago and you have quickly become my favorite for weightlifting content -- specifically because of the context you give around each video. Instead of just showing us lifts you also explain what's important about them in that moment. You bring us into the moment and it makes all the difference. I'm heading to your patreon page right now.
Love to see lifters from Poland. Belarus coaches have been around forever and they have coached some great lifters in the past. They would be a great interview
I can only shake my head if i watch him (and in generell all those Weightlifters) making the 70kg and 100kg Snatch from the Blocks looking so freaking easy These guys are not human, they are more like Marvel´s Superheroes
Just caught your channel by chance and I am glad I did. Very interesting and detailed up close and personal style. Keep the videos coming. I am interested on Ilia Ilyin's progress and what were his results in Qatar. He has used the Bulgarian training system for years and it works for him. Pirros Dimas used it too. The caviat about this system is that is only for proven high performance lifters and not for athletes that are novices or at mid level.
What's crazy is that even though the Chinese lifters train their athletes like a freaking factory assembly line, each lifter differs slightly while some immensely. I'd like to know also!
Great content! Would like to see videos on Japanese lifters plus interview on Kuo Hsing Chun would be great. Her snatch form is amazing! Just a thought!
@Mal Theri Yup. Suspiciously all jacked af with very low bodyfat. Oh, and even though they can break all the youth world records they never do. It's almost as if they're forced to wait until adulthood before they start getting drug tested internationally for some crazy reason. Couldn't have anything to do with juicing like crazy for ten or so years to get that extra muscle nuclei before they're forced to start cycling off every now and then.
@Mal Theri everyone juices but the Chinese are Communist so they are chosen and trained from young. Look at the Chinese, short arms and legs, insane hip mobility and long torso.
I'm really grateful for these interviews and training videos, Seb. Amazing work. Have you considered hiring an interpreter for some of these interviews? I would love to discover the secrets of his training that get lost due to having to speak a foreign language.
I'd love to see footage of the less popular teams in the training hall. Belarus, Bulgaria, and Italy from the Europeans + pretty much any Pan-Am team. Cuba has a lot of talent in and out of the country. Oscar Reyes just did 155+195 as an -81 at the final Italian national championships this year ;)
Илья молодец, я не знаю английського не казахського, что они обсуждають...просто чисто по мужськи так держать!!! В москве 172,5 ривок, я видел как ти бил рад, удачи тебе,как там у вас "алга", а я родился в алгабаси а живу в украини.
How does it work? 3 weeks in Qatar with all those people...where does the money come from, to pay everybody's expenses its a mystery to me, how you make it happen. Unless you put together a seminar
A 190+230 total in Tokyo would definitely give Tian Tao a good run for his money, let's hope Ilya trains consistently for the remaining months leading up to the Olympics next year. EDIT: Btw what shoes was he wearing?
They met when Meso was around 16 years old. Ilya was at his peak. Now they have become friends again. They will be doing another training camp in March/early April.

Plus, he went through a divorce as well...
jeez, I could have never guessed that with him being so positive and energetic all the time. this dude's a legend.
BodomChildBreeder he possibly had a herniated disc. If he had nerve damage and numbness those are signs of it.

Id love to see more of Shi Zhiyong, great video as always
Bro you know we want shi and lu interviews bro
You know pretty much every lifter of those competitions was also using PEDs. Unfortunately, only some get caught and crucified.
shhh the normies don't want to hear that
Ilya looks like Vitalyzdtv now compared to 3 years ago.

Does the patreon have a awsome commentary aswell?
I'm afraid not. Maybe I should start doing that...
Weightlifting House I only come for the commentary. Normally watch the videos with my eyes closed.
Some good music playing there.
do you have any information about Nijat Rahimov at all?
