Beautiful knives, I really like Camco knives so will have to add a workhorse series knife to my small collection. My favorite Camillus off brand is the Fairmount. Take care and God bless you 🙏

    As usual an envious collection.

As a Camillus fan, I say thanks for this video!
I might add that 008 is a Junior Trapper (similar to the Camillus 713). And (you may not have noticed) the micarta scales have two copper layers.

When I started collecting slipjoints in 2022, I fell in love with vintage American knives made by camillus, their Remington stuff, camco, etc. so when I saw the camco canoe, I grabbed it. When I got it, was def disappointed to see it was made in china. Quality wasn’t terrible, but you could tell it wasn’t the same quality as the American ones. Camco being camillus’ budget line, really were quality knives, usually with just lesser expensive handle material, and thinner blade stock from what I’ve seen. I ended up selling the china made camco, just didn’t fit in my collection. Never knew they had all these different patterns in the workhorse series. Thanks for sharing Tobias.

I remember the nasty taste of Bazooka gum, the red scales are really nice, thanks for sharing them, Tobias.

Those are great looking knives, I'd carry those any day! The canoe is my favorite of the bunch, but I really dig that stockman too👍Cheers, buddy!

Thanks - these are some very nice pieces. The small lockback looks really well done.

Very true, I have a couple of these Workhorse knives and think they are quite well made. I'm going to have to pick up the canoe...I think.

I live 20 miles south of Syracuse and never knew there was a Syracuse knife company 😮

Camillus originally used the Syracuse Knife Co. brand in the 1030s. Those knives were produced in Solingen, Germany.

I've got 1 Camco knife I've had for years. A small stockman. It's odd that the shield has no markings on it. I really don't know but figuring it's from the 70s. Still in good shape though

I agree with you about the quality of these knives. I have the trapper in the red jigged bone, and it is gorgeous! By the way, I really, really like that Canoe. I'll have to keep my eye out for one. Thanks for sharing, Tobias.

They do show up on eBay. A little pricey but sometimes they are sold in open bidding and can be had for a fair price.

Tobias, Did you get a chance to look at the Russell Scout knife ?

    • @KnifeChatswithTobias
      @KnifeChatswithTobias  2 місяці тому

I have actually seen it. It popped up in my facebook feed. The price seems a little steep. $75-$95 for a made in China knife. I get they are using VG10 or the main blade and 5Cr for the tool blades and the $95 is for the stag version but it still seems pretty high. I'm going to try and shop around a bit.

Well you know by 2006 we couldn't afford a gallon of gas. Much less a knife. It was 5 a gal in Al. I can't remember what it was in CA or NY

So did the knife industry take a hit in the early 2000s because of something to do with a competitor (e.g. increase in popularity of multitools) or some other reason?

Lovely knives. Not being an American, I’m less concerned about whether or life is US made or not. That being said, I do think offshore production always seems a little sad.

Exactly. Imagine "Sheffield" brand being owned by an American distributor who has the products made in China in Pakistan. That is just not right. At least in the case of the Camco knives, it was the American company that was attempting to produce its bargain brand off-shore. What is more, Camillus had a long history with off shore production.

They look great but the bolster design is a fail by modern standards.
