Convert Sound/Music to WAV/WAVE - EASY QUICK TUTORIAL

Convert aiff, mp3, flac, ac3, m4a, ogg Vorbis and even video files to WAV!

To end up with a 16 bit Wave audio file, all you have to do is to download the free and open source tool Audacity from audacityteam.org and import your music or video. Then use the file menu to extract it to another format.
If your result doesn't get recognized in whatever application you are using, you might want to change the sample rate to 44100 or 48000 in the drop down menu somewhere in the UI.

Great tutorial, just a word of advice:
It's pretty pointless to convert any file that isn't .FLAC or .AIFF to .WAV.
This is because those two files are lossless, as is .WAV.
Mp3 files, for instance are compressed, meaning severe degradation in sound quality, and converting to .WAV won't improve the quality of the original audio.
I guess the only instance you'd be converting a compressed audio file to .WAV is if whatever container you were using didn't accept anything other than .WAV, but besides that, converting any audio that isn't .FLAC or .AIFF to .WAV is pointless.

yes but for example to export music to a distributor you need wav format so if you have mp3 it wont accept it...

I was hoping to convert my audio tape to a .WAV and unfortunately audacity states it cannot do this. Does anyone know how I can convert my audio tape to a .WAV file?

My file is an audio tape with a .cda extension. I have changed the sample rate to 48000. Audacity will not accept it when I try to import the file. I need to have a .WAV file to change it to a MIDI file so I can import it into my Ableton Live II Lite software. Any help would be appreciated.

I tested this program and same wav ,who i got with video edition program ,used on this convert to bigger ,but quality doesn't change. Is better programs , who making quality from lower to bigger , just they are difficult used .

yeah... using audacity isnt going to help you anymore as the developers think amr isnt used anymore and so they removed it
