2 things: I don't think people know how hard it is to shoot at 25 with that accuracy with 1 finger. And switching to the left on the reload and shooting is tough as well. Great job Alston. Learning a lot.

Excellent! 👍 I liked the "sit on the couch and talk trash" remark 😏 I've been shooting since a boy of 8 with my father and my great uncle guiding me. Both were soldiers and lawmen. Both were also veterans of combat, and shootings as an officer. They trained me to draw and shoot from less than 1 ft. to as far as 75m. with a handgun. By the time I went to basic training, I was more than ready. After 3 tours in Vietnam I too became a peace officer, and managed to walk away from 3 shootings during my career. Because of my father's and great uncle's skilled and professional experience in training that I'm still here. Now in my 70s, I still train on my own range, and close quarters drills are a big part of how I train. And fundamentals are at the top of the list.
Recently discovered your channel. I was very impressed and immediately subscribed. I'm going back to other videos you've made, and catch myself nodding my head at times thinking "man, this guy knows his stuff". Thought I've been shooting for over 6 decades, I'll be the very first to say I'm still learning. And your channel is an excellent source of knowledge to add to my own. 👍

The Dunning Kruger effect is very real. Most gun fights are within a car length (7)yards, and in, and so-called professionals (police) miss at that range. Handgun triggers are heavier than the gun itself, making it easier to disturb during the trigger press. Shooting is simple but not easy.

That's a nice range! I have to bring a range finder w/ me to confirm distances. You also have the whole range to yourself to be able to mount a spotlight 'on the range itself' and shoot at another lane...That's some privilege! Us 'regular folk' would never have the 'ability and means' to 'train like that...'

Your approach, instructional technique, and delivery are above par. I like your approach to convincing and demonstrating why fundamentals at close distances are just as important as when the target is at the far end of the range, I spend 33 years in LE with two thirds of the time as a firearms instructor. For probably 20 of those years, entities where I worked required quarterly qualification course to start at 50 yards. Distance is the most perishable of all shooting skills, especially when someone does not have or has forgotten the fundamentals and eventually the 3-7 yard strings will result in rounds impacting outside the scoring area. I am in the process of transitioning to teaching citizens, and I appreciate your approach to teaching and relating to the student.

My son and I play battle ship at the range.
The target has some sized circles on each ship.
We run a magazine each, and check the target.
Want to find out how good you aren’t? Put that target at 7 yards.
When I’m within an inch of those dime sized dots I feel like I’m doing pretty well.
Fundamentals up close, at medium distance, and at 25.
    Shoot small targets.
I’ve learned “Aim small, miss small”.

I'm qualified to practice holster draws and rapid fire drills that many ranges don't allow even for their members.

"So, what are we talking about?" Perfect question. My summary of your answer is 'skill building'. The basics are grip, sights, squeeze. If those aren't mastered, then hitting the one finger, 25yd shot won't happen.
My wife works at 3-5, I'm comfortable at 10-15+. My handloads in any of our tools print near 1" at 15yd, so bigger groups inside of 15yd really tells what the shooter is doing.

100% agree crawl, walk, run. Working law enforcement and being prior military we train as close as 2 meters. When dealing with a person and they pull a weapon at close range you need to know how to get them away and get rounds off immediately. You can never overtrain you can only be over confident and cocky. Nice 25yd shot by the way.

Out there you will bend and use your knees and start moving. If you’re not use of those types of movements everything will change dramatically and give you results you might not happy with. I do like the concept and ideas tho.

Not sure where you live, but I have access to at least three outdoor ranges, and most are large, with 4 or 5 bays with about 6 tables at 100’ maximum, another about 100 yards wide with 100, 200 & 300 yard targets with about 25-30 tables about 10’ apart. It’s usually not that busy and we get the whole smaller bay If you want to shoot from 5-30’ you just walk up closer and mark off 9’, 15’ & 21’ (in the gravel) and you can put up several targets and shoot in either direction at three targets. My buddies may shoot at just one so I’ll just shoot at the other end. You can lay a blanket down to catch you magazine or take a very light portable table closer to the targets.

@@lantose huh? I have all of that and more . I do this for a living and work related lmao. My comment was just simply outdoor instead of indoor so some can understand that this practice might not be the same realistically when you apply it outdoor due to totally different movements.
You got me there confused for a sec buddy.

When I was on active duty, our handgun training started at arm’s length from the target.
Everything was in slow motion. Practice, practice, practice.
After firing a few dozen rounds, slow, from the anchor point, then we would go out 1 yard at a time until we got to 7 yards.

The people who think they will just point shoot are assuming there is a good backdrop and there is a clear shot. They don’t think about innocent people may be close, barriers, a backdrop that is busy or could lead to an innocent person being hit.

The range I go to is pretty cool. When they're slow they'll let me use 2 lanes like that. Otherwise I have to use a wide cardboard and tape 2 targets on it. Only issue with that is depth

Man this video alone shows you the Skill ceiling, its easy to hit the shots still with all the time in the world with no worry. Put yourself on a timer or drill and you see why its professionals and rookies.

That timer helps a lot bro. Makes it way harder. Glad you're getting value from these. Thanks for watching.

I'm a instructor and I have told folks the exact same thing as u are saying about the 3 to 7 yards and for some reason certain folks think shooting long distance is the measurement of shooting as if they are preparing for a John wick audition
