    I really love this series. I obviously can’t do the pro ones. But I can probably pull off the intermediate. And the pro one gives me ideas to change up the intermediate a bit. Please continue doing these.

    • @John_Malecki
      @John_Malecki  3 роки тому +5

      The pro isnt a far stretch from intermediate, its just a little more involved in the joinery, but once you try iit once you'll feel like its amateur hour and be looking for the next thing!

    First, love the progression from shop cabinets to bathroom cabinets to kitchen cabinets. Fantastic.
    Second, yes teach Sam and Jordan dovetails cause I would watch that video.
    Third, that squirrelly push stick is now my favorite thing.

    Starting a job at a cabinet shop tomorrow, nervous as hell so I'm glad there are resources like this just to familiarize myself with some of the methods since a lot of my experience with these tools is from decking and framing

    When John used finish nails with glue... that is the sign of a pro. A newb thinks everything has to be done on a professional level, a pro knows when to do things on a professional level. When talking about commercial, contracted, commissioned products... that's a key skill to have or you'll never make money.

    I own a custom cabinet shop. You'd be surprised how difficult frameless cabinets can get when the clients start adding premium features. Primarily if you are gonna have a perfect 1/8" gal between all doors and drawers. Everything in fine frameless cabinetry has to be dead on square and perfect or it won't work right.
    Also, you don't need space balls. You can just put some 23g pins on the back inside the edge of the door. Like each 2" off the vertical center line of the doors. The 4" of spread isn't enough to break the pins, and it won't move from it's alignment.

    • @SomeDumUsrName
      @SomeDumUsrName 2 роки тому

      Yeah...great call. Otherwise the frames will sag to out of square and the doors will start rubbing the door bottom on the face frame and your gaps will get all wanky. Doesn't take long for this to start happening either.

    I'll be self building my entire kitchen in my home in the next few years. Videos like this are very helpful. I'll be going to get them all to the intermediate level standard at least. Edge banded, skaker doors, frameless full overlay, full pockethole construction. I'd love to be able to do the pro level, but not with my limited tools in a 8ft x 12ft workshop.

    As a professional Custom Finish Carpenter I hv to make several different pieces flawless to include cabinets , kitchen and bath!
    Islands, hutches, sofa cabinets, tables , crown, base, built ins window trim, build doors , install doors (a lot of them) you get the picture!
    I am trying to figure out if I should subscribe ?? To learn dove tails? Why they take to long and my Lee jig will do & has done fine?
    For the slap act?
    No I think none of what I seen could be something I sell maybe the last one but truthfully I sell my customer on time tested flat panel shaker doors! Or shaker with a chamfer !
    Anyway kind of a kidding around channel I get it?

  • @HelloThere604

    Love this series and think it fills that space when people wonder how they can complete a project without all the same tools as the video. One suggestion though would be to structure the video by step in the process and then go through each build. When it’s time to make the drawer, here’s how Jordan, then Sam, then John make the drawer. Rather than each persons build all the way through. I mention this just because by the end of John’s build, the connection between how he just stepped it up a notch from what Jordan did is a little lost. John’s is obviously more advanced visually, but the impact of why gets muddled a little I think.

    I think it's a good idea for all woodworkers to be educated in the ways of the Dove!! Even if you don't use Dovetails in your normal woodworking there's a LOT of transferable skills in hand cut dovetails and they will help your other woodwork projects get to a much higher finish quality. It's one of those irritating things that has taken me 30 years to discover so if you're reading this, don't do the same as me...... learn now LOL. 👍
