Trash talking is part of the game when you play REAL basketball. The kid played in one of the toughest cities in the south. Gotta be able to talk it and walk it. I love it.

Ok, first dude is pulling up from NBA range with a hand in his face, everyone needs to recognize that, second he averaged 29 points a game along with 6 rebounds and 4 assist, which is pretty damn good for a SHOOTING GUARD at this level, third, a lot of people say he just jacks up shots, yet he shot 60% from 2 point range and 40% from 3, pretty damn good given the shots that he takes, (Look up his stats on MAX preps) fourth, the trash talking, he has grit and can even back up what he says, all the greats did it too, so who cares if he trash talks its apart of the game and he's obviously good enough to do it. Not many people like trash talking but I don't mind it cause it shows that the player has a winning attitude and will give you buckets and also get inside the other teams head. Malik is an outstanding plater, anything else I should add to that? oh yeah, he lead his team to 4 straight state titles and won MVP 2 times on the USA olympic team along with 2 gold medals.Very coachable player and will get into you on both ends of the floor.

A lot of these comments I am reading on here are purely asinine and you can tell they are coming from some people who a.) never have played high level competitive basketball or b.) sit at home and watch NBA TV, ESPN, etc. and think they know the game so they try to scrutinize and critique every highlight, mixtape, and player. Malik Newman is not only one of the best high school players in the country, he is one of the best high school players to come out of the state of Mississippi period. The man has been putting in work since his freshman year in high school and hasn't stopped since which is the reason why he has won 4 state titles, been ranked the #10 player in the ESPN 150, the #1 shooting guard and had every high major college/university offer him a scholarship. He is an elite level jump shooter and scorer as you can see by his videos and contrary to some of the idiots on here, is a beloved and respected player who players want to play with (Just ask Diamond Stone, another high level recruit who tried to get Malik to go to school with him). And lastly, the whole thing about him talking trash throughout the videos is almost comical to anyone who really plays basketball. Any of my real hoopers out there know if your on the court and the guy or girl checking you starts to trash talk you what do you do? You lace up your shoes a little tighter go out there and give the defender buckets and let him know that he can't check you. Trash talk is a part of sports especially basketball anybody who doesn't understand that doesn't really understand the game and therefore has no business commenting on a player who is probably ten times better than you on your best day anyway. Plus all the greats trash talk i.e. Bird, Magic, Jordan, Kobe, Bron should I continue?

Cynthia brown Most guys are done growing by the end of high school...sure, he may get lucky and grow 1-2 more inches, but it's unlikely. He's been the same height for a while now.
Also, Newman isn't a legit 6'4, he's more like 6'2 1/2 barefoot, maybe 6'3 3/4 in shoes and doesn't have that great of a wingspan....not exactly ideal size for an NBA shooting guard.
He's a shooting guard and a really good one. Who the hell cares about height for a guard.
Liam Oneill Height and length matter in the NBA. Many of the shots you see him making here he may not be able to get off due to his lack of height and length against larger defenders. Kind of like how Jimmer Fredette was able to look like all-world in college, but is struggling tremendously in the NBA.

SC25 It depends on where he's playing and what his objectives are. At the McDonald's practices with his teammates he hasn't talked at all. When he sees an opponent that he is trying to rattle he goes at them. I've never seen him get a technical for talking. May have come off the wrong way in the video, but he uses it to his advantage and it usually works.
