Lego's most popular original theme that they paradoxically have no interest in doing anything with. I kinda get why they ended it, it felt like they were running out of ideas near the end, but one would think after this long there'd be fresh talent eager to take a swing at it.
They just need to set it 100 or so years after G1, base it on new characters, with background information being totally optional, have a dedicated story team, with only one storyline to follow (just comics, supplemented by a movie here and there, or else a series), and most importantly: it needs to be run by someone that *cares.*
@@Draezeth Kinda like the gap between the original run and Metru-Nui? I do agree however that the most important part is that it has to be run by at least a creative director who cares, if not the entire team. Passion is what made Bionicle so great.

I think I fall on the younger end of the G1 fan spectrum being 23 however this video is genuinely one the best things I've seen come out in a while. You have such a unique and different perspective from people like myself, there's only so many times you need to hear how Lewa mata was their first toa before it all starts to blend together, and it's honestly surprising and inspiring to see people your age still getting into Bionicle. A couple of hopefully helpful pointers about your wanted list; if you're planning on using them to create your own models I'd recommend steering away from Lewa Phantoka as everything from 08 and 09 had a massive brittleness issue and you'll be hard pressed to find a set from that era that doesn't have broken joints. Secondly 2005 sets had the unique misfortune of having an error in the lime green plastic and the year as a whole is notorious for broken Keeleraks, assuming you like Visorak as a whole and not just Keelerak specifically it'd still be worth getting a different one as I think their Rhotuka spinner is one of the best play functions Lego ever implemented. Also I recommend Nick's comic "The Toa" to newcomers, it's a what if where Bionicle only got it's initially planned single year to tell it's story and so condenses the narrative to it's bare essentials and trims a lot of the fat from later years when the story started to become a jumbled mess.
Holy shit dude thanks for the feedback! I did hear about the brittleness issue but actually have it detailed really helps, it’s a same lime specifically was so heavily effected because it’s one of my favorite Lego colors :/ glad you enjoyed 👍

As someone who grew up seeing the ads on tv for the Toa Mata and literally wailing reading the cancellation announcement in 2010, it makes me so happy to see new fans enter the IP with so much enthusiasm.
I started out my Bionicle Journey when I got the "McToran" in my happy meals, but my first exposure to the lore was the Mask of Light movie. I remember being extremely happy to obtain the 2003 titan sets, specifically Takua & Pewku, Takanuva, and Makuta. It was a wonderful Christmas that year. I didn't get into Hero Factory because I wasn't ready to move on from Bionicle, so G2 was my first exposure to CCBS. It's a great system, but my biggest criticism is the lack of variety in the molds. I think if LEGO had expanded the system and fleshed it out, I think it would have found more success. New Skeleton pieces, and plates, and new, more complex configurations would have gone a long way imo. It felt repetitive building the same skeletons with the same shells over and over again. G2 Bionicle experimented more with elements like the gear boxes and the larger sets like Umarak the Hunter. Give me more of that with new molds and I'd be content. I'm not dunking on CCBS, G1 Bionicle ran into the same problem with the Toa Inika and Piraka builds, reusing those same builds over the following years.
I just started looking into Bionicle in 2022. I just finished the story this August, starting from the quaint island of Mata Nui, and ending with the reforming of Spherus Magna.
As someone who was born only a year or so after Bionicles creation, I could never get into the series as I was not but a baby. Even in my childhood my family was too poor to afford it so I just stuck with video games. However, I did get a few Hero Factory sets when that was a thing, and that left a seed that has been blossoming for years. Now I look back at Bionicle and I can only think 'Dang, that some cool stuff' and the more I learn about it and see online regarding it the more my longing for old sets grows. This video basically showcases everything I feel about the theme and the building systems used within it. Thanks for the video, it was really well made!

As someone that got into Bionicle 20 years ago and never left, CCBS was a godsend for making MOCs: after 10 years of experience with G1 pieces, this other system added a whole other layer to it all, while also giving us stronger pieces to work with. On a side note, I really liked G2 Toa sets, both Masters and Uniters, they felt right yet new and fresh. That being said, there's something so heartwarming but also bittersweet I find about newcomers like you: the community does much heavy lifting, I do my part as well, from time to time at least (I actually had a yt channel back in 2010-2012, there was a striving Italian community!), so it's great seeing projects that make this world as welcoming as possible. However, while the man that I am today is an avid fan that still tries new things with MOCs etc., I am who I am thanks to the legend that was experiencing Bionicle each year in its original run. Ofc people today can have fun with these bricks/characters/games/stories, but you really had to be there. There's a deeper connection that can't be explained. Things like "The Dream", how is it possible that many of us have this recurring dream of finding ourselves in the Lego isle inside some toy shop and seeing old or even new Bionicle on shelves? I by no means like the aesthetic of the armor parts, but the mechanical opportunities CCBS provides is absolutely cool! I've always insisted the old and new complement each other, just like system pieces can too if you strike a good balance.
My introduction to Bionicle lore was nickonplanetrippple’s Bionicle Lego rewind, now I’m getting another bricklink order of parts every few weeks! My dream for Bionicle is for legos 100th anniversary. They release a sort of “Lego legacy” line like what they did with ninjago. But it’s for ALL of Lego. Each of the six toa would be built in the GWP style. Maybe including their respective matoran as well! each selling for maybe 15-20 dollars a pop. Perhaps even do an homage to Bionicle stars. Where each toa comes with pieces that once collecting all six, gives you the parts to build takanuva!

I got into Bionicles when the first wave got released. Bought all the Toas, wished I had the other creatures... Then ended up getting the Exo Toa. My Toas didn't have any bad guys to fight, so they just fought among themselves. Then the Toa Nuva got released, I of course got Tahu Nuva, but also managed to get a Bohrok. Best memories ever. Unfortunately I got into my Dark Ages around that time. Now that I'm fully back into LEGO, I'd like to get back into Bionicles. Unfotunately my parents threw them away during my Dark Ages... And I must confess it's a bit overwhelming now discovering all the new sets that got released over the long history of the theme. But if I had to get back into it, I'd probably get Tahu Nuva, Bohrok and a G2 Toa, probably Onua. And then I'd make my own Matoran using system bricks, based on the promotional gift. Who knows, maybe I'd venture into the Barraki or the Glatorian one day? I wish I could get a Rahi, but man, did you see the prices on them lately?
Bionicle with all its lore has potential to stand next to Warhammer 40k and Transformers, but LEGO isn't willing to do anything with it. BIONICLE is for LEGO like SnyderVerse for WB- a masterpiece that was too different for company to handle. And LEGO doesn't know what to do with what they have. So instead let it grow, they prefer to keep it on dusty shelf, when people like me, you, whole fandome, have to do our best in a way to keep those series alive and teach younger generations about G1. I hope, someday, someone will borrow rights to the series and will let it bloom without restrictions like LEGO's non violence politic. And if it will succeed (and we'll make sure to make it succeed), LEGO will bring new parts and new generation of sets :)
Bionicle was such a great theme ever since it's initial release. And honestly with the amount of creative makers in the community I don't see a reason to depend on lego to keep this theme alive when we are keeping it going in strides. Speaking of, I am launching my very own toyline called Ascending Depths where I have made my very own building system in spirit of bionicle. And well constraction in general. It will also have books and comics to go along side it
@33.7k.12 thank you for stopping by! I'll be releasing my first set in the near future. Be sure to stay tuned for October 31st as i will be dropping a video on this YT account about the new figure
Youve got great taste in sets, a fair number of those i got growing up. I cant at all remember what my first set was for sure like a lot people seem to, but the first one i remember was Brutaka, because, how could you not?! I was born in 2001, but had my older brothers bionicles, so i was always into them, most consciously in the glatorian era, and man, i tried to get into ccbs to fill that bionicle shaped hole in my heart, but it just didnt work for me. There was some thing on the lego website where you could order a custom figure, or something. I remember that part being cool
I agree with the criticism of DuckBricks Bionicle Retold videos, they are mostly for fans who have basic introduction knowledge of its lore. Newbies will be overwhelmed by all the Spherus Magna stuff before they even get to the Island of Mata Nui. Best start it simple on a tribal island, and then get into the cyberpunk sci-fi stuff, aka by order of release and not chronological. Also I agree with your opinions of CCBS, wish they continued to support it and add more parts that filled in the bone pieces from all sides, not leaving any gaps. PS: Get some Toa Metru, you wont be disappointed. Vakama and Matau are pretty good choices.
I’m really glad DB made the lore vid but yeah it’s for sure not geared towards beginners, also it’s such a shame Lego just dropped CCBS as I do feel I could’ve had a long and successful life, also I’ll look into getting some metru stuff but Ngl I find them really ugly 😅😂
In my opinion g2 could have benefited from some ccbs adjecent new peices. Some that have similar modularity to the ccbs bones but with more detail to set them apart from the hero factory that came before. The sets themselves I feel are really nice builds, combining an action figure with technic gimmicks better than a lot of g1 did, but the ccbs was a bit to generic and smooth to compliment what bionicle was
I am one who feels that it is better for a franchise to die rather than be soiled by modern standards, but if it were up to me, I usually try to adapt the bionicle line into lego sets, not similar to wave 1 but more close to wave 2 and 3.
@@HYPERPUNKPEACHES When the Bionicle G2 wave released, you could actually buy the whole wave. All Toa and Protectors plus the lord of skull spiders you'd be at $180. When you're a Harry Potter fan, and you want to build Hogwarts you have the option to buy set #71043 Hogwarts™ Castle for $470. That set isn't very playable for minifigs, so the alternative could be set #76389 Hogwarts™ Chamber of Secrets at $150, but now you don't have the complete thing. Okay, the recommendation on the lego page says set #76387 Hogwarts™: Fluffy Encounter is an extension of this set. It's not even available anymore, but let's calculate with the RPP around $40. Still looks very empty and open. Let's add set #76386 Hogwarts™: Polyjuice Potion Mistake (like recommended). $20 for a "room" where there isn't enough space to place the minifigs on, and the promo pictures also barely show the mini figs inside the "room". If it was a hut, and it's meant to be outside okay fine, but you don't have a roof. These three sets put you at $210 considering the cheaper price of the unavailable set. But now you look at your lego catalog and see how many more sets you need to complete the set and how many more sets came out with the wave. It's just not a good deal in my eyes.
Nice man! Thats, what I am trying to do as well! I mean making Bionicle lore easy to understand. If you ever do more stuff with Bionicle, I will definetly support it.
Something you may have heard about from Bionicle fans is "The Dream". I don't know if new Bionicle fans would experience this phenomenon if they've never been to a store and bought Bionicles, but many many Bionicle fans have a recurring dream where they're in a store and they find and buy some old Bionicle sets.
I did know about that, I actually experienced the dream with a wave of Bionicle g3 sets, I just couldn’t find a place to put it in the vid that felt natural
It's so cool seeing what a newcomer looks for in sets from G1! I hope you heard about the lime green joints because that's something *really* fun to look forward to. Such a great video, man

"Light Pumping" I've been a Bionicle fan since '01 and it was really cool to hear the perspective of a younger fan getting into it. It's so funny, I've never once thought of the term "light pumping," but that's exactly what makes the original eyes look so cool.
The lime ones were weak out of the box and the brown ones and multicolor ones become weak if exposed to any chemicals or food that leave residue behind. But even still my piece graveyard has expanded twenty fold in the last couple of years.
Bionicle is one of my first hobbies I was invested into, and even today, I still go after them. The series will always be a part of me, and I'm glad more is being done with the community
When I was doing my LEGO Movie reverse AU back in 2019, I have been doing some research for other LEGO themes that I could use for it. But when I got to Bionicle, It just kinda snowballed from there
Pretty good video. I've been into the serie since 2001 and never got out. It's nice to know there is still people out there wanting to discover the Bionicle experience.
Welcome onboard! i got back into it this year, i can really see why kid me was so amazed by this theme, i only knew the lore from the movies but it goes so much deeper and i love it
I love bionicle to this day. While I let go of all my sets 13-15 years ago. But I still remember all the mics I created and video creators I watched like shadow gear, razhakae with their crazy techniques at the time of 2007-2009. But yes the lore isn’t restricting we can create any character and build them however we want. They can be missing a mask. Have a ball joint popping out. A symmetrical. And can still fit in the lore. Bionicle to me is the embodiment of the true LEGO experience.
Can you not? just drop the series Bionicle's shit it's fandom is mid except the guys making the toa mata game. Just for your mental health just drop bionicle and move on

@33.7k.12 I appreciate that greatly, thank you fellow compatriot :)

The sets themselves I feel are really nice builds, combining an action figure with technic gimmicks better than a lot of g1 did, but the ccbs was a bit to generic and smooth to compliment what bionicle was
Nice death shirt \m/
HELL YEAH 🔥🔥🔥
Rad Death shirt 🤘
Thanks bro 🦾 SBG might not be my favorite album of theirs but as an album cover it’s peak
I am one who feels that it is better for a franchise to die rather than be soiled by modern standards, but if it were up to me, I usually try to adapt the bionicle line into lego sets, not similar to wave 1 but more close to wave 2 and 3.
I thought I was the only one! I'm glad to know that I'm not journeying alone.
i'm getting into bionicle right now, so you're definitely hitting that very specific target demographic
Let’s go 🥶🥶🥶
I can't believe that these dust catchers and half a wall sets are more profitable or more wanted than bionicle.
Which sets are you referring to? Bionicles are rather pricey 😅
Yeah it is pretty weird, thankfully I got them when they released, still not as stupid as LSW prices
Nice man! Thats, what I am trying to do as well! I mean making Bionicle lore easy to understand.
If you ever do more stuff with Bionicle, I will definetly support it.
9:38 yo I love that g2 matoran build you've done! Do you have other pictures of it from different sides so we can build it?
Maybe 😅 hit me up on IG and if I can send you all the pics I took of it, I might have a full 360 vid still cuz I know I sent my friend one
Thanks for sharing!
Such a great video, man
You ain’t ready for the sequel…
This is what I am doing I was born during hero factory weeks gen 2 Bionicle but now I’m going to join the og Bionicle lovers I’ve already watched the lore video
This is what Hero Factory will look like in 2019
Fun to watch this video as a someone who has been Bionicle fan since I was 7 years old in 2001. Gives different perspective to this whole thing.
You ain’t ready for the sequel…
welcome fellow toa! i grew up with this passion and have like 85% of all bionicle sets ever created^^ (we tend to keep them in pieces in a box =D) if you want to i can send you pics of my two superprojects sometime! (big figure and a massive weapon) i once even had the chrome tahu mask but sadly lost it
Bro send pics I’d love to see
"Light Pumping"
I've been a Bionicle fan since '01 and it was really cool to hear the perspective of a younger fan getting into it. It's so funny, I've never once thought of the term "light pumping," but that's exactly what makes the original eyes look so cool.
I actually fucked up a little 😅 it’s TECHNICALLY known as light piping but I’m glad the idea still came across
The lime ones were weak out of the box and the brown ones and multicolor ones become weak if exposed to any chemicals or food that leave residue behind. But even still my piece graveyard has expanded twenty fold in the last couple of years.
WOOOOOOOW THATS AWWWWWSOME
Bionicle is one of my first hobbies I was invested into, and even today, I still go after them. The series will always be a part of me, and I'm glad more is being done with the community
Hell yeah brother 😎🥶
I ate my Samsung S23 smartphone and it blew up inside of me.

When I was doing my LEGO Movie reverse AU back in 2019, I have been doing some research for other LEGO themes that I could use for it. But when I got to Bionicle, It just kinda snowballed from there
You ain’t ready for the sequel…
@@HYPERPUNKPEACHES my reverse AU was made back when the second movie first came out
Pretty good video. I've been into the serie since 2001 and never got out. It's nice to know there is still people out there wanting to discover the Bionicle experience.
Any editing tips?
Awesome video man ^^
I got back into Bionicle a year ago and it is currently still my favorite hobby
Thanks bro, Bionicle is so fucking sick
@@HYPERPUNKPEACHES It is indeed ^^
Welcome onboard! i got back into it this year, i can really see why kid me was so amazed by this theme, i only knew the lore from the movies but it goes so much deeper and i love it
Get ready to spend some moolah
Oh yeah shit is not cheap 💀 Brutaka especially, but I collect a lot of shit so it’s not my first rodeo overpaying for stuff 😅
You ain’t ready for the sequel…
@@HYPERPUNKPEACHES I seen it. It was ugly. And ruined the franchise for me. I stick with OG boncle. It ended when Makuta won.
@@Tripledashhh_ the sequel to this video…
@@HYPERPUNKPEACHES lmaooooo this is too funny bro okay I got you 🤜🏻
There is always the story
I’m sorry but wtf do you mean 😭
Wish some company could team up with LEGO and remake some sets but with newer and sturdier molds.
In my opinion bionicle hasn't been great since like 2005-2006 with its peak being 2001 to 2003.
That’s fair, obviously I don’t have all the sets in hand but I will say the Glatorians look rad asf
Can you not? just drop the series Bionicle's shit it's fandom is mid except the guys making the toa mata game. Just for your mental health just drop bionicle and move on
