Will Rishi Sunak’s ‘Smoke-Free Generation’ Work? | Loose Women

- From Presidents to Prime Ministers… Rishi Sunak has pledged the legal age for buying tobacco will rise every year from 2009, meaning a 14 year old today will never legally be sold a cigarette. Whilst he is saying this smoking ban will be the “single biggest intervention in public health in a generation”, Liz Truss is one of many to attack his plans for bans. Jane argues that 14 year olds aren’t legally allowed to buy cigarettes now anyway, but still manage to get their hands on them, so how will this ban change that fact? Sophie believes the focus should be on educating everyone of the dangers of smoking, rather than introducing a ban, and Charlene says before we look at the smoking problem, we need to address the vaping crisis…

The only smoke-free thing Rishi should be worried about is the Energy Crisis.
Satire?
Car fumes are okay though for all of us. 😂
You sound like sadiq khan
It's like prohibition.
Smoking is culturally ingrained.
This will just result in an illicit market.
Kids will be stabbing each other over a 30g pack of golden Virginia or a pack b&h .
Rivers of blood and all dem ting

It’s a ridiculous idea
I understand the need to stop children becoming smokers now or when they're older but, what will happen in however many years time, is we're going to get drug dealers selling tobacco, on top of all the other illegal drugs. We're also going to have more people in prison.
Just limiting places that smoking is allowed contributes to the decline of smokers. Don't ban them 😅
Nanny state police state in uk
Ban smoking so the youth can live to see the devastation and depravity of the (non) future?
Make the future possible so there is something to stay healthy for!
I’d say if you ban smoking you have to look at banning alcohol as well. The diseases developed from long term regular alcohol consumption are of equal severity and there are so many consequences for those who can’t handle their drink which lead to a complete lack of control. I would say the government rake in an enormous amount of tax benefits from both and right now, have a lot more serious issues to deal with!
Because the alcohol industry pays government institutions to conduct studies that show a little bit of alcohol consumption isn’t bad for you
@@user-fk7sk9ut1t Yeah, but those same type of studies used to be used for smoking.
@user-fk7sk9ut1t Better ban celery and various other vegetables that contain nicotine. Nicotine has antiviral properties. It's the chemicals that are used to process smoking tobacco that are toxic.
I agree that children not smoking is a great idea, but I don’t think banning is the answer.
Also… if this goes ahead… there will be more pressure on the Healthcare system, older people illnesses will need more investment, as people are bound to live for longer.
So I hope that the government will be willing to invest in the right way in the nhs and in the care system.
What about the real crisis we have in this country. Easy to deter from these with a ridiculous policy. Young people smoking are doing spliffs.
Oh no! Beam me up Scotty. Both my parents smoked like chimneys (it took years off their lives). Neither my brother nor Mr have ever smoked. It's an addiction caused by peer pressure, stress or the meaningless of their lives. It has reduced because of better education and the cost , but I have to agree with others that this idea belongs in cloud cuckoo land.
I’d have thought school age smokers has massively reduced, to a tiny percentage and if you make it past 18-20 without smoking you’re probably unlikely to pick it up. To me this seems to be more Tory BS with a shiny headline that changes nothing
if they were truly co i ced on smoking they shoul just ba it a d clear the shelves now ut they want the tax income
Black market boom ahead
I’m all for Rishi. It should be slowly weaned out of the world
But war is good for your health?
Support sunak 100% before starmer. Labour have no answers on immigration, the economy and in defence. Britain would be under far more danger under a woke labour party. Why folk think starner and rayner are the answer I don't know
I don't think will happened drink does Lot damaged has well will.the ban it I don't think.under 16 should be smoking no the vabes we don't know what damaged your health to adult s or under sixteen
We not gonna talk about the absolutely disgusting tirade he gave on the transgender community? Is my life not important? I have up smoking over a year ago but being transgender isn’t my choice. Let’s talk about the rights that’ll be taken away from millions of marginalised people first. Thanks
Give it a rest and seek help
What did he say?
Wow, some really hard-hitting, intelligent conversation.
You realize this is a talk show? This isn't like hard hitting journalism so I'm not sure why you're making fun of it in this way? It's like you came here looking for expert opinion and were disappointed 😅
@@beepboop9464 Oh, I don't hold with this new fangled doctoring. Any problems, I go to the wise woman.
Are the government out to control our lives completely, we fought 2 world wars for freedom but it is gradually being taken away from us. How about sorting the boat people out they are coming over in their droves or is that to hard to do.
