However, fate had other plans in store for me when an opportunity arose to buy it back years later.
In this episode, I share my journey of rediscovering and reconnecting with this beloved vehicle, and how it brought back so many memories from my youth. If you're a fan of classic cars or just looking for a heartwarming story, this episode of "Car Stories" is not to be missed.

Iv been delivering parts to a garage a cpl of doors down from your house for a good few yrs now. Iv seen your cool marina loads of times, i love it, id love to see you do the jobs on it. Great channel mate 👍
There's loads of cars I regret selling and loads that I regret not buying too, you can't keep them all and you can't buy them all, well I can't just yet anyway! 😄 great vid again mate! Made me want to go out for a cruise ! 👍🤟
Sick video with the story, that marina turbo is a beast, what a car!
Any Marina content is good content so yes lets see some maintenance 😊
Similar thing happened to be I bought a 1971 Honda motorbike in 97 did it up even buying nos exhaust pipes. It wasn't mint but really nice. Sold it in 2001 then it popped up on ebay in around 2012 a absolute wreck with bits missing 😢
What a sad story, I had a very nice Rover SD1 Vitesse that I sold back in the late 90's, only to come across it by chance rotting away in a driveway three years later, it had been robbed of it's drivetrain, wheels & interior & was basically scrap 😭
I hope one day to come across another of my old cars that is still on the road.....
I was going to buy an absolutely mint gunmetal grey 2.8 Injection Special with half leather Recaro interior back in 1996. It had 56k miles on it. Unfortunately I lived on a spectacularly dodgy council estate in Northumberland at the time, where anything remotely quick got nicked, ragged & then burnt out.
So I bought a tatty but solid 1976 Pontiac Trans Am with a 400ci (6.6 litre) V8 (earlier pre-smog motor, so actually made power) and a 4 speed manual gearbox. It was a beast, and all the kids on the estate loved it. I earned the nickname 'Trans Am Man' and they used to come round every weekend and wash it on the promise I'd take them out for a blast in it.
We had seven in it once, me driving, two in the passenger seat and four in the back, and it caught fire on a dual carriageway at 70mph (-ish). That was fun.
Sold it in 2005 to two blokes from Lincolnshire. It's been SORN'd ever since.
I found the spare set of keys for it a couple of years ago. Was half tempted to go and 'borrow' it back.
Good to see you got the old girl out. Love to see more of it on the channel too. And the discount code did not work lol...
Whoops! Sorry about that! I’ll have to check it out.
Yes will be more of it over the coming months!
That’s gutting seeing it like that.
Would be mint to see you buy it and return it to its former glory.
I would if I had the cash. Even if it was squirrelled away for a while until I got some time. But, it is the same old story. Space, time and money.
Yeah I get where your coming from Ben my biggest regret was having to sell my immaculate triumph 2.5pi for £500 back in the 80s for a deposit on a flat still I do have the marina coupe😀😀
Yeah it's definitely best to never check up on your old cars. It just depresses you when you see what others do to them. I had a mint STI Version 5 Impreza sold it to a guy who waxed lyrical about how he was an enthusiast and was going to take care of it. Aye he took care of it all right a mate saw him on the Subaru forums with it up for breaking within 24hrs, a perfectly good car with no issues sold for parts by a profiteer. I would like to have been blissfully unaware of that car's end at the hands of a jumped up car scrapper .
It's a shame😢 good video though thanks 😊
Granada mk2 ghia X seats in a Marina, do you have all the seat motors wired up& working?
YES! Well, no. The drivers seat is the only one with the sparks. It was plugged in but when I re-wired the car I forgot about it! Did the passenger seats not have electrics?
@@claytonspeedcars so long ago I had mine struggling to remember, I think you are right Ford were too mean to give 2 electric seats so only drivers was electric thinking about it
Great video. What car were your seats from? 🚘
They were from a Mk2 Granada I think. Possibly a Ghia? Not too sure.
I owned GWF 77N twice and have been offered it back for sale an additional two times... it might come back to me again one day?... who know! (In fact if you Google the reg it will take you to a forum discussion when I found out it was for sale - haha!)
I remember the car. I was on the Isle of Wight for a little while iirc? Last time I saw it wasn't it going through some serious fabrication work?
@@claytonspeedcars Yeah, it was you that saw it for sale and told me! I sold it to Ken on Isle of Wight and Uncle Frank did some tidying up work. Unfortunately the next owner lost all the history (there was a lot ☹ ) ... In my ownership I had the front chassis changed to coil-over struts (using Capri hubs) and to move the steering rack (BMW) below the engine so I could fit the Corvette LT1 I had. I also fitted a heavy duty Ford Atlas axle and 5-link rear suspension on Gaz coil-overs too... it was also on Gold/polishes Alleycat alloys which looked great with the Blaze paint... OK, now I really want it back again!!
@@MrRobhadfield Was it?! Ha. I must have forgotten that. Anyway, yes, you should buy it back again! This time make it exactly how you envisioned it.
I bought my cardinal red 2.8i almost 32 years ago (£2500) in August 1991. I wouldn't sell it for anything.
how much was Capri as im big fan after project too make mk3 into mk2 like pics anyhelpid appreciate thanks Brian
my grampa mgg717p a white marina coupe TC he bought new and used cpl years b4 that was a white viva 1300e coupe car went from Scotland every year too Blackpool at paisley or Glasgow fairs and car never let us dwn ever great car woould love coupe now Too do like you modern lump turbo etc nice st220 v6 6spd box rwd axle from mazdaclasic looks modern units under sheep in wolfs clothing
Not 100% sure. I didn't get that far !
Sounds like a great idea. Lots of donors about. Good luck
Seems odd that it had apparently been retrofitted with a Mk2 grill and headlights?
Certainly is. I've no idea if that is even an easy mod to do.
How did it go from a mk3 to a mk 2? 😂
Christ knows. Is that even possible?
Somthing fishy there if you ask me? why would do that to a mint 2.8 injection?.. it was highly collectible then
@@mick0846 The mind boggles.
Disgusting what happened to your capri mate that car looked mint when you had it.the Guy that bought it off you. should hang his head in shame. some people shouldn't be near cars. I Sold a lovely vectra b sri dti. i restored the suspension. Fitted nice drilled groved brakes zafira gsi recaro seats leather door cards seats transform the car for comfort .
