- The FDA said it found particles of the bird flu virus in samples of pasteurized milk. The agency says that milk is still safe to drink, but additional testing is needed to confirm the contamination. Dr. Akshay Syal explains whether we should be concerned with the FDA findings.

Can someone please explain how bird flu is in milk? Since when are cows considered part of the bird family?
The virus was called the bird flu/ avian influenza because it was originally only seen in birds. However, due to the massive outbreak in wild birds over the last couple years the virus was able to mutate and has slowly began infecting mammals. It has now mutated to allow it to infect cattle easier (so they say). It’s still referenced as the “bird flu” because of its origin. The experts think it’s possible for it to mutate to spread to humans more easily and that’s why they are keeping such a close eye on it. Hope that helps.
The virus originated in birds (hence the name) and has since mutated to infect mammals as of recently. And even more recent than that has it evolved for cattle-to-cattle transmission. I’m assuming they continue to call it the “bird flu” because of its origins but it certainly no longer only infects birds. And since the cattle is getting infected the virus shows up in the milk. That's crazy cuz I stopped drinking dairy for a few years now and just recently started drinking and cooking with it again...
Questions I wish the news would ask. 🤔 If it is necessary to destroy entire flocks or facilities of hundreds of thousands or millions of chickens or turkeys, even if only 1 case of bird flu is found, then why is it ok to have the bird flu running rampant in our dairy cows (and maybe beef cows), and nobody is really paying any mind. Bird flu in chickens horribly bad, but in cows, nothing to see here. Maybe the financial ramifications of destroying millions and millions of cows is too much for our leaders to bear, so they ignore the threat. Or, is the bird flu not that big of a threat and all this killing of flocks and facilities of birds is nonsense.
