The awesome fights in this were done by Brad Allan and his team. They also did KINGSMAN. Brad Allen died a couple of years ago, but he was the only Westerner to be a part of the Jackie Chan Stunt Team, which means he was elite.
The World's End does have a different vibe to the other two. It has a more adult, serious theme of mental health, addiction, relationships and death. There is a common theory that Gary was going to end it all after the crawl was over. He has no cloths in face he brings nothing with him. He want's to end at The World's End. The fight at The World's End is another turning point. Gary has hidden his problems and wouldn't show his arm. His long coat and holes for his thumbs mean his never reveals anything. But when his wrists are revealed and we see the bandages, wow. It suddenly turns very real and we understand why Gary is acting this way. The line "It's all I've got" is heartbreaking. That moment and the bandages reveal changes Gary completely. This deserves multiple rewatches. The more you watch the more you realise this is way better than you thought on first viewing. Also fun fact everyone wearing blue was a blue blood. Along with the musketeers talk in the car foreshadowing two of them won't make it, along with their position in the car three are visible and the other two hidden. I can't pick the best or my favourite because they are all so good. One of the best trilogies ever made.
Most people consider the 2nd to be the best (and I'm not going to argue) But this one is still my favorite. It might be a different vibe from the others but it is also the most MATURE in it's themes... and really if you look at the 3 movies as a whole this one acts is a perfect conclusion to the filmmaking style throughout My favorite aspect of this film is the fact that what WERE "callbacks" in the first two movies with lines and actions... now are woven so thoroughly into the script of this one that it's almost as if the entire second half of the movie is a mirror to the first. Basically EVERYTHING said before the 'Blank'-reveal is either a direct reference to something that's going to happen or it's a line that will be repeated word-for-word later in a different context. I mean.... he literally TELLS YOU THE PLOT OF THE WHOLE MOVIE YOU'RE ABOUT TO WATCH in the opening monologue 🖐😳 It's SOOOO IMPRESSIVE 🤯 And that's just one minor point there's also the editing and music and comedy and acting and all sorts of other stuff. It's a fitting magnum opus... even if it goes less appreciated by much of the casual fanbase 🤷♂
The good thing about this movie is Gary is so many males, peaked in their teens and had the best time of their lives with their mates and life never got any better.
The policeman who pulls them over at the start is played by Steve Oram who wrote (with Alice Lowe) and starred in another cult UK comedy horror movie called 'Sightseers', it's based around caravanning and went under the radar a little, but is a lot of fun and very funny, Edgar Wright was also executive producer.
This is my favourite of the 3. I saw it in a cinema in Glasgow knowing little of what it was about but had liked previous films. I am same age as Simon and rest of cast characters and were Sisters of Mercy fans and got the references and knew Gary Kings and went in pub nights like that. The interesting thing was in cinema the young audience did not find it amusing and older audience did not get the cultural time specific points, the music the bands and films we were watching at the time (Terminator, The Thing , Jackie Chan stunt fighting films) so there was a small section of people who were just having the best hilarious laugh and a poignant reminder of our youth and desire not to leave it behind. Hope you can get your band back together and have a wonderful meet up with your past
And here we have THE BEST of the Cornetto Trilogy and Simon Peggs best ever Character Gary King, the supporting cast create the most unbelievable world inwhich to tell this flawless screenplay. Not a wasted scene or piece of dialogue from the masters of their craft at this stage of their careers. The underlying personal tragedy of Gary King cleverly and intricately woven into this genius take on the sci-fi genre
The bathroom scene reminds me of a movie I want Shanelle to watch, FAQ about Time Travel. They don't have anything in common really except the great British humor and the bathrooms are kinda similar. Lend me a hand and help me persuade Shanelle to add FAQ to her list, Thanks.
I worked as a photographers runner at the world premiere for this, my job sent me cos they knew i was a massive fan of the other movies, the photographer managed to snag me a ticket to actually see the movie that night so i got to be in there with the cast and saw them do a speech before the showing, everyone clapped and cheered at the end of the first fight scene which was really bizarre to experience, and i missed my train home cos i had to start til the end..totally worth it
Nice. Even though it's not one of the cornetto trilogy, the other one to watch is "Paul" with Simon pegg and nick frost and featuring sigourney weaver and Seth Rogan as the voice of Paul the alien.
Apparently after they made this they wished they had the foresight to have cast another former James Bond actor in Shaun of the Dead so that all three had a Bond.
The choral music when Gary's blank is revealed is the introduction to "This Corrosion" by seminal goth band The Sisters Of Mercy, the band whose logo Gary has tattooed on his chest. As a long-time Sisters fan, I laughed like a drain when I heard that musical cue in the cinema, which was all the more amusing because no-one else got the reference and I was the only one laughing.... Also, a missed opportunity: the soundtrack should have made room for another classic by the Sisters, Dominion, if only for the line "In the land of the blind, be (Gary) King".
Funny cause at the time everyone hated this movie, but also when Hot Fuzz came out I remember people being super disappointed with it..... People just loved Shaun so much.
I hope you’ll consider Paul. It’s not Edgar Wright, but it is Pegg and Frost Though you might wanna check out Close Encounters of the Third Kind first. And ET
Other excellent Edgar Wright directed movies are Baby Driver and Scott Pilgrim Vs the world. Also of Note is One Night in Soho. Well worth checking out if you havent already.
Shanelle: I think there's gonna have to be a turn in the plot right now because they old guys reliving their youth is running out of steam. Everyone: YOU HAVE NO IDEA!
I love the bookends of this film; with him starting in the rehab circle talking about being college drunks, then ending with him back in a circle spouting about their right to be drunks.
We actually did a pub crawl before ending at the World's End in the cinema. We only hit 6 or 7 tho, and I don't remember much of the viewing experience. But it never got better than that night...
This film taught me about the 180 degree rule in filmmaking. When Peter meets Shane Hawkins in the woods the camera "crosses the line" and disorientates the viewer. Usually filmmakers avoid doing it unless they want to instill a sense of unease. Kubrick used it in The Shining.
In a nod to subtle film making... There are several scenes you can see king wearing the paper bracelets from a medical facility. And then later he refuses to show his arms. It's fair to say that he was really at his life's end and may have been suicidal and may have even attempted it.
Also the fact excellent soundtrack are exactly the kind of songs their younger selves would have been listening to back in the 90’s. Also I thought it was very much referencing the basic concept behind Invasion Of The Body Snatchers where all the humans in the world are slowly being replaced by alien creatures.
This movie takes inspiration from 50's SciFi movies like Invasion of the Bodysnatchers, which of course was remade in the 70's and the 90's. The original from the 50's drew heavily on the fear of a Communist takeover that was prevalent in that time, while the remakes of course dwelled on similar fears of their own times.
Sorry, Shan. I love your videos, and I'm usually so focused on the commentary, but I had to rewind at one point, as I've done in the past quite a few times, bc you're seriously just so pretty.
As someone who used to be sewer slide-al (editing cause I dunno if youtube will delete based off this or not), it makes me sad when people don't see it in Gary... to me it's painfully obvious, but the majority of reactors I've seen don't pick up on it at all. So it's like... even when it's right in their face, people don't see it...
Some time if you're up for it binge watch the series Spaced. If you check online it is VERY high rated and that show where all of this and these people started together. There are even some bits which I won't spoil that directly led to these movies. I watched it on a whim after finding in a library and literally did not even know it was an Edgar Wright venture with this same crew when I checked it out. And it is everything that is endearing and entertaining about these films. Just a lot more of it and perhaps more slowly paced.
Watched this at the cinema just a few minutes after watching world war z. People had apocalypse on the mind around 2013 because of the 2012 prophecy. I think the invasion of the body snatchers theme is alluding to how we as middle aged people find ourselves replaced by a person we don't necessarily recognize. How would your much younger self react to you? Would they thank you or despise you? What are you doing to make sure your future self loves you?
THERE'S ANOTHER. Unofficially, the American Comedy "Paul" should be added as offshoot of the Cornetto Trilogy. Simon and Nick are Sci Fi Graphic Novelists coming to their First Comicon and a road trip of geek "hot Spots". Along the way they meet "Paul"... and the fun begins!
Shaun of the dead was my own favorite Hott Fuzz and This are very similar to me but i think i liked Hot Fuzz better. But, by no means do i dislike this movie. Pike and Pegg were actually great in a little known movie "Hector and The Search for Happiness". Really fun movie with surprising cameos that actually further the story.
Actually it's paranoid. "Chucking a whitey" is when you've smoked too much weed and all the blood drains from your face because the world feels like it's falling in on you.
Something you said during the reaction made me think you haven't seen the 1988 John Carpenter movie They Live. (Not saying what it was, so I don't spoil anything.) If you don't have anything against Carpenter that's my recommendation, even if there are better movies he's made. But you watch what you want. It usually makes for better reactions.
16:14 - Hadn't been used in decades (I think it stopped with Star Wars) but came back surreptitiously in recent years. Really crept back up almost unnoticed. But if you look into movies in the last 10-15 years you start noticing it. Weird.
7:15 - Well, you ARE gonna be all together in Long Island for the holidays. Just saying. Seize the moment, carpe-the-mother-fucken-diem and all that jazz.
If you want a great 'Brosnan' movie have a look at 'The Matador' first thing i saw him in after 'Goldeneye' & i swear it's what bond would be like if he ever retired!😂
The awesome fights in this were done by Brad Allan and his team. They also did KINGSMAN.
Brad Allen died a couple of years ago, but he was the only Westerner to be a part of the Jackie Chan Stunt Team, which means he was elite.
watching it back and spotting all the gags around the pubs names is fun
I think this is the one I might've got the most out of on a rewatch
The World's End does have a different vibe to the other two. It has a more adult, serious theme of mental health, addiction, relationships and death. Would he not show his arm because he had scars from cutting his wrists perhaps?
@@championskyeterrier Bingo. There's nothing more to it..
4:00 in true Cornetto trilogy fashion, the plot of the movie is given away in the first few minutes.
Most people consider the 2nd to be the best (and I'm not going to argue) But this one is still my favorite. It might be a different vibe from the others but it is also the most MATURE in it's themes... and really if you look at the 3 movies as a whole this one acts is a perfect conclusion to the filmmaking style throughout

And that's just one minor point there's also the editing and music and comedy and acting and all sorts of other stuff.
It's a fitting magnum opus... even if it goes less appreciated by much of the casual fanbase 🤷♂
Of the Cornetto trilogy, I'd agree but Paul(2011) is my favorite Pegg/Frost two-hander
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Shanelle, if you liked this, you'll also like "Frequently asked questions about time travel" (2009)
There are so many Easter eggs in this movie - for instance: the names of the Taverns each imply the event that happens within them.
Here we go! Hot Fuzz is the best objectively but this is my favorite and I’ve been waiting for you specifically to do it!
The good thing about this movie is Gary is so many males, peaked in their teens and had the best time of their lives with their mates and life never got any better.
Thats good?
Simon recently said that he and Edgar were "circling an idea" about doing another movie together.
I'm so happy you're finally watching this Edgar wright classic
The policeman who pulls them over at the start is played by Steve Oram who wrote (with Alice Lowe) and starred in another cult UK comedy horror movie called 'Sightseers', it's based around caravanning and went under the radar a little, but is a lot of fun and very funny, Edgar Wright was also executive producer.
Love that you’re putting the ribbon on the Cornetto Trilogy and totally not blue balled for Endgame
This is my favourite of the 3. I saw it in a cinema in Glasgow knowing little of what it was about but had liked previous films.
I am same age as Simon and rest of cast characters and were Sisters of Mercy fans and got the references and knew Gary Kings and went in pub nights like that.

"Let's go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for this all to blow over."

Yeah it's great
Problem with suggestions like this is it’s not good for UA-cam metrics. Obscure movies don’t get views.
I worked as a photographers runner at the world premiere for this, my job sent me cos they knew i was a massive fan of the other movies, the photographer managed to snag me a ticket to actually see the movie that night so i got to be in there with the cast and saw them do a speech before the showing, everyone clapped and cheered at the end of the first fight scene which was really bizarre to experience, and i missed my train home cos i had to start til the end..totally worth it
15:32 I don't want to put any more points on Pete's license 😆🤣😆
lol, “I’m a really good dialogue guesser, you guys!”
3:36 - Yep, Timothy Dalton. He also played Rasilon in 2 episodes of New Who
“For Gallifrey! For Victory! For the end of Time itself!”
Also: The Chief in Doom Patrol, the bad guy in Rocketeer...
Prince Baran in Flash Gordon!
Nice. Even though it's not one of the cornetto trilogy, the other one to watch is "Paul" with Simon pegg and nick frost and featuring sigourney weaver and Seth Rogan as the voice of Paul the alien.
Not even a spoiler alert for sigourney's reveal?
Apparently after they made this they wished they had the foresight to have cast another former James Bond actor in Shaun of the Dead so that all three had a Bond.
Eddie Marsan is brilliant 😊😊😊😊
I like how the robot people have those little nubs like a toy that snaps back together.
As an old goth/industrial dj, I recognized it immediately 🤟😎
Funny cause at the time everyone hated this movie, but also when Hot Fuzz came out I remember people being super disappointed with it..... People just loved Shaun so much.
I got to go to a “marathon” on opening day. Sean of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, then the premiere of The World’s End. What a wonderful experience.
Ahh yes, my favorite coming of age, martial arts, zombie, dramatic comedy, alien invasion, buddy road trip movie...best of its genre!
How in any way shape or form is this a zombie movie?
I hope you’ll consider Paul. It’s not Edgar Wright, but it is Pegg and Frost
Though you might wanna check out Close Encounters of the Third Kind first. And ET
Other excellent Edgar Wright directed movies are Baby Driver and Scott Pilgrim Vs the world. Also of Note is One Night in Soho. Well worth checking out if you havent already.
She’s don’t Baby Driver on the channel.
@maxducoudray I couldn't remember hence why I said if you haven't already.
Thanks, Shanelle! 🛸
1:50 "martin freeman our favorite little elf....not an elf...who was he in the hobbit?" .....a hobbit.
Um, not "A hobbit": "THE hobbit."
Shan is the best at guessing dialog. Nobody in the history of humans has been better at guessing dialog than Shanelle Riccio. :D
"who is he in the hobbit?" :)
Shanelle Riccio, a woman with an Italian surname, saying "Corneddo". You don't believe it until you hear it. 😂😂😂
Shanelle: I think there's gonna have to be a turn in the plot right now because they old guys reliving their youth is running out of steam.
Everyone: YOU HAVE NO IDEA!
'No I'm Kelly", "I'm Stacy". "Go chew your gum"
The two buddies also hang out with an alien in the movie Paul. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost together again. There is also the TV show Spaced.
The real apocalypse was the friends we made on the way
"they're doing it for the greated good"
the greater gooood
I love the bookends of this film; with him starting in the rehab circle talking about being college drunks, then ending with him back in a circle spouting about their right to be drunks.
The opening monolog tells the whole of the movie, like it spoiled the whole movie lol
13:10 - Me too. Those phones' rugged- and toughness were stuff of legends. If you dropped it on the floor, the floor broke.
I would add Invasion of the Body Snatchers and They Live as other possible influences.
We actually did a pub crawl before ending at the World's End in the cinema. We only hit 6 or 7 tho, and I don't remember much of the viewing experience. But it never got better than that night...
19:03 - Blue Bloods WAS a television show. Series finale was last night. 😢
10:39
Also Jane Bennett to Kiera Knightley's Elizabeth
This film taught me about the 180 degree rule in filmmaking. When Peter meets Shane Hawkins in the woods the camera "crosses the line" and disorientates the viewer. Usually filmmakers avoid doing it unless they want to instill a sense of unease. Kubrick used it in The Shining.
You have to learn the rules so that you can properly break them.
8:39 The Home Counties N of London can indeed be charming - but are about as far from the tourist trails as it is possible to get ....
Somehow you managed to pat yourself on the back for patting yourself on the back on the dialogue guessing…very impressive!
Unpopular opinion, but this is my favorite of the trilogy. As a middle aged man that has seen his best years drift away, this hits hard.
16:20 - Or Stepford Wives. 🤣 BTW, there's another free recommendation. 😉
Ah, the last of the Cornetto trilogy! Let's check it out.
3:18 - OH! Took me second there. And on a totally unrelated note, you should watch The Omen (1976) with Gregory Peck. 😉
14:43 - OH! Good call, hadn't noticed that!
So you now need to follow this one with Paul.
In a nod to subtle film making... There are several scenes you can see king wearing the paper bracelets from a medical facility. And then later he refuses to show his arms. It's fair to say that he was really at his life's end and may have been suicidal and may have even attempted it.
Watch the movie TAG. Men still being adolescents.
Also the fact excellent soundtrack are exactly the kind of songs their younger selves would have been listening to back in the 90’s. Also I thought it was very much referencing the basic concept behind Invasion Of The Body Snatchers where all the humans in the world are slowly being replaced by alien creatures.
7:26 - It's a term of endearment over there. 😂
The WTF scene in the bathroom gets me everytime
One of the other thru jokes is either jumping over a dark brown wooden fence or falling through it.
18:14 ...The Greater Good.
Looking forward to your UK travels! ✈
Please consider the original Planet of the Apes films from the 60s and 70s 🙏
Sorry, Shan. I love your videos, and I'm usually so focused on the commentary, but I had to rewind at one point, as I've done in the past quite a few times, bc you're seriously just so pretty.

I could've sworn you've reveiwed this a few months ago?
I wouldn't say they are best buddies in this. For good reason. It's a good portrayal of how addcits manipulate everyone else.
That is why I love the movie My Old Ass so much!
Martin Freeman, our favorite elf. Wait, maybe he wasn’t an elf. Who was he in The Hobbit? Answer: He was The Hobbit.
Para= paralytic, which the British use to mean extremely drunk.
It's a fun movie and I like Simon Pegg being the screw up with an emotional story. But my favorite is Hot Fuzz, the Shaun f the Dead, then this one .
Shaun of the dead was my own favorite
Hott Fuzz and This are very similar to me but i think i liked Hot Fuzz better.
But, by no means do i dislike this movie.
Pike and Pegg were actually great in a little known movie "Hector and The Search for Happiness". Really fun movie with surprising cameos that actually further the story.
Anyone else here for the awesome 90s soundtrack?
4:28 "Para" - short for paralytic. The word does indeed refer to paralysis, but it's commonly used to mean "extremely drunk" in the UK.
Actually it's paranoid. "Chucking a whitey" is when you've smoked too much weed and all the blood drains from your face because the world feels like it's falling in on you.
Para is short for paranoid.. they are smoking weed and he even says chuck a whitey..
Would really recommend the unofficial 4th movie Paul😂
Please give the Star Trek franchise a chance. 🖖
Shove it. Why don't you try commenting on the movie
Something you said during the reaction made me think you haven't seen the 1988 John Carpenter movie They Live. (Not saying what it was, so I don't spoil anything.)
If you don't have anything against Carpenter that's my recommendation, even if there are better movies he's made.
Weird.
Rather than The Terminator, the robots gave off Invasion of the Body Snatchers vibes
I think a combo of the two, because the ones in Invaders can't fight like these ones.
Great film with a banging soundtrack. I was a 90's teen so my opinion is biased. 🕺
There is a spiritual 4th called Paul.
Also gotta do Scott Pilgrim vs the world, billiant Edgar Wright movie😂
7:15 - Well, you ARE gonna be all together in Long Island for the holidays. Just saying. Seize the moment, carpe-the-mother-fucken-diem and all that jazz.
3:50 - Home movie, maybe. VHS, definitely not. That's NOT what VHS looked like.
Do "spaced" tv series if you like the cornetto thing
10:12 editor whoopsie 🤫
....seems like there might have been a joke intended there. I would have liked to have known what it was lol #NoJudgement
Still haven’t seen this one yet
Most people like 2 the best, but this one competes with 1, for me, for the favorite.
If you want a great 'Brosnan' movie have a look at 'The Matador' first thing i saw him in after 'Goldeneye' & i swear it's what bond would be like if he ever retired!😂
Great movie
Paul as well? Who is MF in the Hobbit? The Hobbit.
Edgar Wright also did a movie called Scott Pilgrim vs the World. Maybe you should check gorgeous girl next door.
You've got blue on you.
