We love IEW’s Fix It Grammar and the Structure and Style for students!! Fantastic programs!! Thank you for making this video to share with others ☺️
Thank you for this info! Especially that we can receive the course immediately while we wait for the shipment. That was very helpful!
It’s so nice to see you! I continue to pray for y’all 💕 Thank you for the video 😊
Thank you for the prayers!
I have a High School-er and we use 'Fix-it- Grammar'. I can not recommend it enough!! If it's helpful for reference; She is ADHD and learns best by DOING, not memorizing. If that's your child as well, you may really love this curriculum as much as we do. 😁 The lessons can be as short as you want them (1 sentence correction/day - that is how I sold her on the curriculum) or you can do more. I often find her working ahead because the program makes so much more sense to her than traditional methods. The reference cards are a great tool along side our daily work. Love it, love it!
Love hearing your success story with Fix It Grammar!
Glad to see a video from you today! Praying for you and your family! Praying you can find answers to your health issues! ❤️
Thank you for the prayers!
This was very helpful. Thank you. We are using essentials in writing right now. I shelved it and am doing something else for grammar as we weren’t huge fans (I heard this from others as well), but going to pull it back out for the second half of the year to try the writing. If not, I think we just need to make the IEW plunge.
They have to pay you! I love that. 😀 Thanks for explaining. I’m no where near needing either program, but I’m glad to know a bit more. 👍🏻
We are using IEW structure and style for students for my 6th grader and it has been great. It's challenging but Andrew keeps it fun.
So happy to see you!:)
Did your 4 children finish Structure and Style A, B, and C fully? If so, did your Structure and Style A kiddos move to the Structure and Style B this year? Or did you start a different writing curriculum?
Thank you! We just struggled through the last half of level one of EIW with my 8 year old, we already have level 2 but I am thinking we may just to the first half and then switch to IEW.
Sounds like IEW might be a good fit. Make sure to listen to those audio workshops to learn about the IEW method.
Thank you for this information! Can I ask if you do a separate reading/reading comprehension/spelling program? I thought about using TGAB LA and IEW for writing.Thank you.
Yes, I do separate reading and spelling programs. Right now we are using All About Reading and All About Spelling. bit.ly/3SOvKaI
@@JanelleKnutsonWhat do you use for reading comprehension? Thanks
This is information I needed thanks!
You’re welcome! Glad it was helpful.
I'm new to IEW, do I need to buy the premium package of structure and style?
Thank you for sharing the info. That helps me a lot to pick the curriculum. I'm going to buy IEW level A. I found there is Teaching Writing(Structure and Style® [Forever Streaming, Seminar Workbook, Premium Membership]) in the premier package, but there isn't in basic plus package. I'm wondering what's Teaching Writing for? Do I need to buy it? Thanks.
That’s the teachers training seminar to help you understand the method better and to be able to teach the method without using the video instruction. It is not needed if you are using the structure and style for students videos although it is still helpful to have if you have the extra money for it.
Thank you very much for the response.
Did u try poetry memorization?
I've seen your video on Winston grammar. Where does that fit in with Fix It? Do you start with Winston and then move to Fix It?
Great question. I have used a lot of different grammar curriculums over my 17 years of homeschooling. I choose what I think will help a particular child the best in any given school year. Fix it Grammar jumps significantly in difficulty from Nose Tree to the next level (can't remember the name of the next level) so if I am using Fix It Grammar: Nose Tree with a younger student I might take 2 years to do it or finish it in one year and then do another grammar curriculum the following year (such as Winston Grammar or BJU Press English) and then move back to Fix It Grammar if my chid did well with it. Hope that makes sense.
Can you tell me how many days or how much time this would generally take to use as a supplement with our other language arts curriculum? I am wondering if it would be too much. I have one with dyslexia and dysgraphia that really needs A LOT of help and hates writing. My other child loves to write and does it often in her free time.
You can work through the IEW curriculum at whatever pace you'd like. It's okay to take more than a year to complete one level. Whatever is best for your child. :)
Thank you so much for your video. I've been thinking about switching to IEW for next year. Do you know if they ever offer sales? Thanks!
I don't remember ever seeing a sale but it doesn't hurt to reach out to them to ask. :)
Free shipping! Today is the last day!
I'm considering in purchasing SSS year 1 level A for my soon to be 5th and 7th grader, but do I really need the parent videos? I also have a toddler and don't have the time I used to. thanks in advance!
Parent videos are not necessary. It might help for you to listen in on some of the earlier lessons that your kids do so that you understand the method and are able to assist them if they get stuck.
I had to help my younger ones with the first few lessons, as they got use to the format and method, but now they can do it all on their own. I just edit the papers.
Hi so I just saw your video on master books writing strands. U posted it 11 months ago. Did you decide to use IEW better ? I’m torn between these 2 curriculums for my 7th grader
Writing Strands did not end up working for the student I purchased it for. We switched over to Essentials in Writing mid- year for that student and now she is doing IEW's Structure and Style for Students. My top two favorites for writing are IEW and EIW. Writing Strands is a great option as well but just didn't work for us. Hope that helps.
@@JanelleKnutson thanks for responding. I think I’m going to go with IEW . :) I’ll look into EIW.
After your kids do SS Year 1 A, will you be going to Year 2 A or the subject based ones (I forgot the name)?
I plan on sticking with SSS because it is video based and I have 6 kids to homeschool. The subject based ones are parent/teacher taught and I don't have the time for that right now although they are excellent options if you have the time to teach them.
This is helpful .... I'm trying to decide our next step ... We will finish 1A next week.
I'm looking into this and have been a little confused about the literature component from what I can see onlins. In level c do you have reading/literature books that need to be purchased or read or is that optional? I am a veteran homeschooler but about to have a 9th grader and honestly highschool is terrifying! Thanks for any help you can offer
IEW Structure and Style for Students is a writing curriculum although the Teacher's Manual does have literature suggestions. You would need to incorporate the Teaching the Classics curriculum from IEW to get a full literature course. Here is more information about Teaching the Classics: bit.ly/31T2wyj
Hope that helps!
@@JanelleKnutson Excellent! Thank you so much!
I’m new to homeschooling. My son is starting Year 9 and I’ve ordered
BJU English Curriculum.
How does BJU compare to EIW and IEW? My son is a reluctant writer (and reader), doesn’t enjoy either.
I look forward to your reply.
Many thanks.
BJU English is excellent for literature. It is heavy on grammar (almost too much grammar so I cut a lot out). The writing portion is really just writing prompts but does not teach a student how to write. They assume by high school the student can write well (which is not the case for many kids.) EIW and IEW both TEACH HOW to write. EIW and IEW do not include grammar or literature (although you can purchase them separately). I hope that helps.
@@JanelleKnutson Thank you very much! Your answer is extremely helpful. Both EIW and IEW look fantastic; however, EIW may be a better fit for my son because it seems a little more gentle, not as intense?
Btw, i’m so glad I discovered you, I thoroughly enjoy your videos.
Greetings from Australia.
How do you suggest I use the EIW writing curriculum, together with BJU Press literature, or should I complete literature first and then half way through the year start EIW writing? Thank you again for your assistance.
I have 5 children who will be in 6th, 5th, 4th, K, and Pre-K... We're taking a break from Moving Beyond the Page because my children need some more structured writing. I am very torn between IEW SSS and EIW for my older three. This will be my first time teaching kindergarten and I need something that will allow me to spend more time with him. Would you say that doing one level for the older 3 of IEW would be easier than two or three different levels of EIW?
I think it would be easier to use one level of IEW SSS for 3 kids. That being said, EIW does offer a grading service which can be helpful for a homeschool mom juggling multiple kids (although they have limited spots available for the grading service).
@@JanelleKnutson thank you so much! You replied just in time. I think I'll just stick with IEW for now
My very reluctant writer is using SSS Level A Year 1 in 8th grade. Is it necessary to go to Level A Year 2 in 9th? Or do we go straight into Level B Year 1?
That's a great question! Unfortunately, I don't have a good answer for that. I suggest reaching out to IEW customer service and asking them.
I am planning to use IEW for my 7 and 5th grader next year. He need help to learn how to write, he struggles with writing paper he hate it! I think he will like the video option NOW I was playing on keep using abeka for grammar and skip the writing portion with abeka, because I believe language with abeka has the grammar and writing together CORRECTLY ME IF I AM WRONG. Or do you have any suggestions on other grammar curriculum that can go with IEW writing? Thank you.
Abeka is an excellent Language Arts program so you would be fine sticking with it and eliminating the writing section in Abeka and substituting with IEW. Or, you can use Fix It Grammar from IEW that works very well alongside their writing program.
What credit would you advise for SSS level C?
unable to find your link on the iew website....:(

Your not using all about reading anymore?
Great question! This year I used Spell to Write and Read with 2 kids. I used Logic of English with one of my kids and All About Reading with another child. I have also used AAR as an extra help alongside SWR and LOE for struggling readers. So, still using it but also using other curriculum as well. Hope that makes sense. :)
