I’m still relatively young, and even I was hurt by John’s speech in a way I couldn’t possibly prepare for. God, I miss pre-2020 simpler and brighter days so much. Growing up truly sucks.
Versus Wolves recently became my all-time favorite podcast, completely overshadowing Trash Taste in my heart (and I was OBSESSED with Trash Taste just a couple years ago). Words cannot describe how intense, hilarious and awesome every episode is. John and Woolie’s friendly rival chemistry is simply unmatched, and every time they come up with new ways to unleash emotional destruction on each other by media recommendations, a legendary moment happens. It just had its sixth episode released a few days ago, and it’s already a cult classic. You should check it out by any means possible - on this channel or just for your own enjoyment.
I checked the moment where you stopped in original video, and well, you better buckle up before that second half, that’s where true unhingedness starts.
regarding apple quest being spawned from memories of reading manuals and strategy guides (also incidentally you were likely thinking f strategy guides, not game manuals) for games they didn't play, I know this feel. theere's nothing like the thouhts and ideas spawned in your head as you read a book for a game you will likely never play or at least until years later, especially if it;s like a game bestiary for say Final Fantasy 9 as a random example.
SEW's video made me find HOSHIBACKYARD and their work on LPCO made me wish for a TTRPG themed around it...

So I wanted to suggest Versus Wolf and wanted to wait for the next Eyepatch Wolf video, and forgot that this video had an add for it.
Anyway, its worth a watch. Its youtube segment is oddly visual, so you could even react to it. The fact its often cut into segments means it probably easier to cut for you.
As to the format, it started with a round up of experiences of 2023. “Experience” meaning people and places are as valid as media. The episode ends with the first recommendations.
The podcast is monthly, the last friday of the month it drops (meaning we are at six episodes now). How it works both hosts suggest an experience to the other, who has to try it to the best of their ability. If they suggest something the other already has, it basically gets parried. However, they can still recommend a segment (if someone only experienced season 1, they can recommend season 2. Season 1 or the show in general would be a Combo Breaker).
Boku no Pico has not been suggested yet. And while they have been escalating, they must discuss it and both these men are too professional to recommend something they did not watch. So I doubt they will recommend that.
Granted, we are escalating. We may have gotten close to that nuke drop.
If you want to experience Eyepatch Wolf as “John”, at both his most villainous and doofus, super worth it.
As for your question, the lady on the thumbnail is a character from the fighting game Tekken 8, Reina. Behind John is a representation of what he got recommended by Woolie. Woolie, as the title shows, got recommended a certain game by John he did a video on. Fear and Hunger.
Thats the second episode and the first “report back on recommendations” episode.
This is how they started. Imagine what they will escalate to past that.

I think you're probably partly right about the reason for the loss of inclusive games manuals (I'm pretty sure that's the reason almost no modern kids shows have opening songs), but honestly, I remember being very much an anomaly for actually opening them: most people seemed to take it as a point of pride that they didn't need to read the manual and a failing of the game if they couldn't figure something out; hence why in game tutorials became the norm.
Do you remember when games didn't waste any space internally explaining their controls and mechanics!

Also about the whole Ghost gods thing I looked them up on Tumblr and found the same archive account (yes I still have a Tumblr it's better than having a Twitter account) and i scrolled through all of their work but couldn't find a post that stated the reason they deleted their account all they mention about deleting their account is that they acknowledged that they did so since the pinned post says "this account is an archive of my work from 2016-2020" but if you want i could give you a link to the archive account that is on it tumblr (i would have to do it here since I don't have discord which you might prefer but also a simple Google search will show you their account if you search 'ghostgodsarchive') also I would suggest to try and experience some of the stuff mr eye patch wolf says from here on out to first hand (might make for some good reactions if you wanna make it that) because thats what I did and holy shit is alot of a wild ride also can you tell I love this video anyway have a nice day
