Hey, I've hit a stump in terms of understanding proportions and would like to know if you may be able to tell me how I can recognize what the questions want at the start. Here are 2 questions. 1) It takes 4 men 14 days to do a certain job. How long should it take 7 men working at the same rate to do the same job? 2) A scale blueprint drawing of a building has a scale of 1 inch to 40 feet many inches on the drawing represent a distance of 175 feet on the blueprint ? Now what I get confused is why I can't make a proportion for the first question but I can for the second to solve the question. Is it the "1 inch to 40 feet" a good indication that I will have to use proportion and solve it via cross multiply etc? I know for the first question you simply multiply the 14 and 4 and divide by 7 but I'm having a hard time seeing the difference when I read the question. Hope my question makes sense. Thanks.
The key is to keep track of the units. If it is 14 men 10 days, men stay in the numerator (top number) and days in the denominator (bottom). So if you have 7 men, how many days you set one ratio equal to the other keeping units the same and solve. Hope that helps
Perfect🎉
Thank you
