Marcelito was abandoned and lived on the streets from the age of 7, he speaks limited English and no Italian so this is even more amazing. He listens to songs and learns them. Celine is one of his favourite artists, listen to him sing The Power of Love. He can also sing in Spanish, French and Chinese. He is self taught and didn't have training. Sometimes he sings solely as a male, Sometimes solely as a female other times he sings duets by himself. He is amazing and very humble. Your analysis was great to listen to and your face was a picture.
First time I heard it, years ago, my favorite was the first sound out of his mouth, I was not expecting that! Also, the first switch to baritone, wow! After that, I couldn't help but think he was going to use the wrong voice at the wrong time, but he never did! Great reaction, Peter, thanks!
His natural speaking voice is far more Austin Brown than Adam Chance or Tim Foust (I'm a fan of acapella). That's why I was surprised at his baritone range. His Celine imitation is so much more feminine or light sounding (not sure of exactly why) than any other male head voice or falsetto I've ever heard, I'd like to know how he creates that quality.
Welcome to the world of Marcelito. I won't repeat his extremely difficult childhood but at age 7 he started to teach himself to sing to comfort himself when he was alone and afraid. His first audiences were the chickens in the coops that he cleaned to survive. Marcelito has never had any vocal or musical training and is completely self taught. He sings all genres of music and in 6 languages and adapts his voice according to the song. In spite of his horrific childhood, Marcelito remained kind, gentle and humble. He has a charity that he is hands on with that tends to the poor and vulnerable populations of The Philipines. He truly is a man to be admired.
His childhood: his father was falsely accused and sent to prison while his mother left him (she didn't die she just abandoned him) he was later adopted by a police officer, he ran away and worked odd jobs, when he works he was singing, his co-workers said he should pursue that career
He is truly a precious child in God's eyes and plans !!! Shows how true God's words are ! He has given this man a heart of love and despite his traumatic childhood circumstances....his timing and talents are perfect!!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I’ve seen and heard Marcelito in person. He was born with his vocal expertise. He was left alone on the street when he was still in diapers. It’s true. He somehow found a way to survive. He is now a millionaire, performing all over the world. He has opened a school for orphan children in the Philppines. He is an angel. He is married and has one daughter. He is a beautiful human being.❤️
Every male singer can learn this, it's called head voice/mixed voice, and it's a combination of chest voice and falsetto, not just doing falsetto alone. Even bass singers, with a deep voice like yours.
Yeah, it can be heard. As much as talented he is, we can hear that he's good at imitating singers so he learnt to sing like the ones he adored as a fan. That's why for example in "Power Of Love" he's trying to imitate Celione Dion. I bet if he knew or liked the original of Jennifer Rush, he probably would have tried to sound like Jennifer Rush. It's not bad of course, rather an observation.
Why do these so called "experts " have to talk all the fricking time. Try listening for a change. You might actually learn something. Marcelito didn't have the advantages in life you did but he not only survived but is thriving.
I've listened to Marcelito quite a few times and it still amazes me that, not only can he sing two distinct parts, but that he can switch back and forth so rapidly and in two different languages! I enjoyed your reaction and the analysis helped me appreciate it even more! Thanks Peter!
This kind of artist only come very rare in a lifetime. Considering his background of self taught with hardship along while growing up, just amazing. God bless Marcelito 🙏 🇵🇭. SF CA 🇺🇲
What is more remarkable is that Marcelito has no formal musical training. He is just so good at picking up the style and nuances of an artist singing a song and then duplicating it exactly
Marcelito is a Philippino whose native language is Tagalog, yet he impersonated Celine's and Andrea's voices, in her French-tinged English and his Italian, meticulously. I describe his talent in this way: he has a completely unique memory that allows him to capture every nuance that he hears and then his versatile voice allows him to reproduce it accurately. That explains his unusual ability to create a purely female voice. He recreates many other famous female voices as well as Celine's. I'm 85 and I have heard no other male singer that can actually produce that precise sound. Once again your technical expertise caused you to miss what Marcelito did in this performance. I get that your job is "picking things apart", but his unique ability, not perfection, was the point. Just to lighten up a bit, what most people don't know is, that strange thing that he does with his mouth after the song is because the Sound Engineers were teasing him about having a 'female voice' so he was 'removing' it.
I loved that! For most of the high stuff I couldn't tell the difference between a chest/head voice. But now here's someone else to check out more stuff from. Thanks for this!
Everytime I heard Marcelito singing,it makes feel so relax and emotional.I almost cried and this makes me inspiring too. Thanks for this video content and reaction Peter.
I have heard Marcelito sing this many times. I have heard this UA-cam and when he sang it on the talent show in the U.S. He taught himself to sing by listening to songs being played in businesses while he was standing outside and taught himself to imitate what he heard. He didn’t know what the words meant when singing in a language other than his native tongue. I do believe that he speaks English now.
Happened upon Marcelito Pomoy today and then your reaction video, my first as well. As a former singer, I loved singing in head voice and using vibrato and then quickly swinging to a lower range, almost a mix, as you called it. Marcelito is so natural. I hope to hear him more and so glad to have found your channel. Your commentary and reactions were priceless.
despite how beautiful his upper register is, my favorite moment is at 19:30. just amazing. btw, you'll note that he did all this while seated. i find that astonishing!!
Peter, I salute you. I've seen almost everything you've done in recent years. I really like your analysis, your amazing literacy. Thank you for our Diana Ankudinova. I think that this is one of the most unusual voices in the world of female singing. Great reactions bro. And yes... You are very beautiful. You have a great voice. Thank you for the pleasure you bring to me. Be happy.☺😊😊
That's what you called natural and gifted talent that no need to train how to have that tho voices in one.. Just comes out naturally without getting strugging on it...
Good Morning! When he was on AGT the first time when he switched to the Bochelli part the judges jumped in surprise and shock. Another great singer that I think finished third or fourth. His rendition of Beauty and the Beast is tremendous!!
Amazing talent ... Américas got Talent did a feature on his life. Abandoned by his parents as a child, he sang on the street to feel safe. He seems like a really nice guy too.
Marcelito is self-taught! 😄 As for how he discovered he could sing in this higher register... If I remember correctly, he was participating in a singing contest, but had gotten a bit sick in a way that he couldn’t sing normally. He then discovered that he could manage a higher register while he was under the weather 🤷♀️ so he used his higher register to get through the contest.
"I'm sure he's got a lot of training" It depends what you call training. He had a very difficult early life, including a period of homelessness. As he grew up he taught himself to mimic all his favorite singers as a passtime. So he's primarily self taught. I'm sure someone else will go into more detail (I'm just not feeling like paraphrasing a bunch of wikipedia at the moment) on his early life and difficulties. But I mean, at the end of the day he practiced a LOT, and that is what really matters. You can have the best teacher on earth, but if you never put the time in to learn, you won't be any better than someone learning on their own through pure practice.
Marcelito has had no training. He is completely self taught. He has a God given gift and a huge heart. He had built schools for poor children in the Philippines. He is one of a kind.
Agree with you re. putting lots and lots of hours of singing (practicing or just simply singing). I was a former choir member ( 3 choirs) and I understand the meaning of using very adequate time doing correct practice to be able to sing well.
If you love his higher vocal range, definitely check out his cover of The Power of Love. He sings the entire thing in his “female” voice. Excellent analysis, thanks for the reaction!
Fun Fact: There is a popular contest in the Philippines called "Doble Kara" where all the contestants are solo singers that must sing a duet song, just like what Marcelito did in this performance. It usually happens during fiestas in small towns and there's even national tv contests for it. It is very fun watching solo performers do duet songs. ❤🤗🎤🎵
Peter, apparently, Marcelito has NO training. He taught himself to sing while feeding chickens in his childhood. And as the story goes: a tough, tough childhood. Singing pulled him out of poverty.
Hello Peter...watching from Philippines... Thank u for sharing this video...Marcelito Pomoy has an amazing voice...GOD bless u and more power to your channel
One of the most incisive and technically-laden analyses of Marcelito Pomoy's rendition of "The Prayer". Thank you Peter ("the Patron Saint of Music"). As a former member of choirs, I've learned a lot from your comments. By-the-way, I heard that Marcelito's singing ability is self-taught; self-developed. He was born very poor and as I heard and read, he received only an elementary or grade school education. Like many Filipino singers, he probably honed his (GOD-given, awesome) singing talent by listening to many types of music, mimicking great singers, and practicing (or just singing) for endless hours. Filipinos love to sing. . .
I absolutely love Marcelito I could happily listen to him all day long, he is amazingly awesome. I loved your Analysis on him and listening to how the vocals work, it is fascinating and enjoyable. Thank you
Marcelito was singing more Josh Groban than Andrea Bocelli. To be able to sing both parts equally beautifully is amazing and never fails to make me cry. Thank you for liking him. He knows nothing about technique. I’m an opera afficionado, who has attended every great opera singer from Pavarotti to Bocelli (multiple times) to Aida Garifullina, but I am thrilled to hear this talented young man who has no training whatsoever!
Hi Peter. Im so proud that you gave voice analysis and reaction to Marcelito Pomoy. I love the way you did. Thanks for letting us know the notes he sung. Im Sidney eliza from the Philippines 🇵🇭. 🇵🇭
This man is unlike anyone I have ever had the pleasure of listening to! The way he changes from part to part so seamlessly is something else. It seems to me that he is the most natural with the higher parts but that being the first I heard him singing will sometimes sway my opinion. But, I am very untrained in the technical realm too, which is one reason I love to hear your opinion on these artists!
Marcelito is like a human tape recorder. He's a great voice mimic and repeats exactly how he heard the original artist sing. So if you think he sounded breathier on the Bocelli parts then that's how Bocelli sounded on the recording Marcelito was working from. I once saw him mimic Michael Jackson sounding exactly like him complete with all the dance moves. You might also want to check him out singing Despacito in Spanish, another language he doesn't actually speak.
Thank you so much for having marcelito in your channel you wont regret he is great and amazing please do react him singing never enough he is incredible thanks GOD BLESS
Man I really love how you approach these reactions, it's very detailed and sophisticated, you're not just mumbling, it is very educational. My new fav vocal coach!
He sang it in both male and female vocal. Such a hard song to accomplish on a male register range. Well done Peter on insite and personal experience on this piece.
Marcelito has never had any vocal or musical training, he taught himself to sing at the age of 7 to comfort himself when he was alone and afraid on the streets in the Philppines. He can sing all genres and in 6 languages and adapts his own voice { which is beautiful} to match the song he is singing. I discovered years ago when I was sick and watched he on the Wish Bus 107-5, since then I have watched so many youtube reactions and talent shows to his natural abilities. He has a unique memory and versatile voice that allows him to reproduce the songs he sings, I love how he is able to switch between his female voice and the male voice so easily while sitting down. Watching on the Wish Bus with some of his friends watching him outside the Sound Engineers would tease him about his female voice so at the end of the song he does a movement with his mouth like coughing so that he his spitting out the female voice from his body. The smile on his face is so contagious and genuine, he loves singing. He appeared on AGT Champions show 2020 coming in 4th which was a total injustice. { you should watch his performances on that show- Power Of Love, Beauty & the Beast, Time to say Goodbybe .He his married with two daughters now. He has his own charity which cares for the poor in the Philppines. Peter I enjoyed listening to your commentary and reactions which were priceless and genuine to Marcelito voice.
Thanks for featuring Marcelito Pomoy. He is an incredible singer with multiple beautiful voices. Kindly check out other more world class Filipino artists like the Disney legend and the pride and treasure of the Philippines Ms Lea Salonga and her performances. You will be delighted and enjoy her performances as well as other Filipino talents... thanks and more power!!❤️❤️❤️🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
Aside from the astounding vocals, what amazes me is that neither English or Italian is his native language. I heard another reactor (Italian) say that his pronunciation was good. That he obviously had taught himself to sing the Italian sections because he skipped a portion of a phrase. When he was on America's Got Talent, his wife spoke for him, his English was very rudimentary at the time. Thanx for reacting to this one, Peter, I always enjoy your work!
Sir, you are so good at picking every change that Marcelito makes in his words .. the voice ... You have accurately scrutinized Marcelito's performance. I , for one salutes your gestures towards his singing performance . Thank you for making your reaction . ... We'll follow more of your reactions for other performers in the future. God bless you !
Hi Peter. I found Marcelito on UA-cam late in 2019. I watched many reaction videos. He has other tracks on UA-cam, like The Power of Love (sung high throughout--beautiful). He showed up on America's Got Talent-The Champions in January of 2020 (he won Philippines Got Talent in 2011). One of the songs he sang there was Time to Say Goodbye, by Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli. Ach. I watched many reactions videos. Someone mentioned another interesting singer, Dimash. It was then that I found the land of Chinese singers, and eventually Korean singers. Such talent in Asia! I have spent many hours listening to them and singing along. Zhou Shen, Hua Chenyu, Jason Zhang Jie, Ayunga, Zheng Yunlong (check out Supervocal 2018), Henry Lau, Hacken Lee (Li Keqin), Wu Qing-feng, and in South Korea, Forestella, HPresso, Choi Jaerim, Michael K. Lee.
He truly is amazing, especially for someone who has had NO vocal training whatsoever!! He's had a very hard life. Lived on the streets for many years. Thanks for the reaction!
Hey there, Peter! Love how you explain things by the way, very few "reactors/vocal teachers" would actually go in depth with what is going on in the video, I actually learn things here! I do think it'll be worth your time checking out all of Marcelito's performance on America's Got Talent, you'll enjoy it! Ciao!
FYI: marcelito was not musically train, Bcuz of the financial problem and abandoned by her own parent's and live on the street, his just imitating the song he heard. Thats why so many filipino adore marcelito.😊 I like your comment on marcelito great job.
Back in the old days, Filipinos, especially in provinces, has this singing contest called “doble-kara” which means singing with dual voices. Marcelito have perfected that technique even though the fame of the style of singing has gone.
Marcelino sings like the voices of angels because he is gifted and how he does it is beyond comprehension because his gift is no less than a miracle given the fact that he never had any formal training in music. He is a natural pure and rare talent that baffles the mind of the experts of voice culture and professional artists alike.
He is self-taught. He spent time homeless. He had a rough life and taught himself English and sang in perfect Italian. He did not have formal training acc[riding to what I have heard. I think he is wonderful.
Watch his face when he sings both parts. His facial expressions get softer when he sings Celines part. It's very subtle but you can see it. Oh yes, he is self taught. My favorite part was when he changed voices the first time you heard it. Oh yes, the expression on your face was priceless.
Hi Sir Peter I'm from the Philippines we are glad you appreciate the talent of our fellow pilipino which is MARCELITO POMOY,really he is so talented person
To be as good as the professionals is an amazing achievement, but let’s not forget, he’s self trained. From a impoverish background , he deserves to make it big and be recognised as a real star. God bless you Marcelino.
I loved this guy's playing with his voice. His transitions are flawless! I believe he was SITTING down!!?? He reminds me so much of Mario Lanza, with hopefully fewer problems. Bet he could go really Big in sound. I didn't pick up a noticeable falsetto, hope he's doing something professionally. Your reviews are great!
When I first heard it I didn't recognize the Bocelli in Pomoy's way of singing at first. Even sounded a bit more like Josh Groban at times. Relistening both to old duet between Bocelli and Celine and the newer one (old one the one he most likely used as reference) I must say Pomoy definitely did changes. As in skipping the runs and almost whisper moments that the duo put in themselves making their version of the song. I actually like Pomoy's take on Bocelli more than Bocelli did himself.
You definitely help me understand what I’m hearing when you explain what is going on technically. After every video you post I feel like I have gained more knowledge and I appreciate that. Thank you.
Well this sufficiently blew my mind! What's your favorite moment from this amazing one-man duet?
Wow!!! Ok..WOW!!😮😊
Marcelito was abandoned and lived on the streets from the age of 7, he speaks limited English and no Italian so this is even more amazing. He listens to songs and learns them.
Thank you
Marcelito Pomoy has the most beautiful voice!
I always love your commentary. I have listened to other reactions by other professionals, but you are my go to. Love your speaking voice by the way!
He had a job cleaning chicken coops and found they remained calmer when he sang to them. He sings in several languages.
Hi Peter. Im so proud that you gave voice analysis and reaction to Marcelito Pomoy. I love the way you did. Thanks for letting us know the notes he sung. Im Sidney eliza from the Philippines 🇵🇭. 🇵🇭
He doesnt have a professional training. he just taught himself to sing such a talented man
This man is unlike anyone I have ever had the pleasure of listening to! The way he changes from part to part so seamlessly is something else. It seems to me that he is the most natural with the higher parts but that being the first I heard him singing will sometimes sway my opinion. But, I am very untrained in the technical realm too, which is one reason I love to hear your opinion on these artists!
Great reaction, thanks! I learned a lot. Always enjoy your reactions.
I can say Marcelito is an amazing singer! What I like the most is the way he does the transition between the voices. It is so clean an effortless.
Thanks so much!
He sang it in both male and female vocal. Such a hard song to accomplish on a male register range. Well done Peter on insite and personal experience on this piece.
PETER HE HAS SUCH A VOICE RANGE IT'S SENSUAL HIGHS LOWS MAGNETIC
Sir, marcelito didn't have any training or voice lessons, thats his talent all natural
Your breakdowns and assessments are fantastic I’m learning so much thank you
Oooohhh . . . I’m gonna enjoy watching your facial expressions throughout this video even more than VPs “If I Were a Rich Man/Girl”! 😁
Thanks peter for supporting our folk.
Dang Peter, “closed quotient “. I learn something new from you every time…
People are generally speechless. Thank you for your analyse. Very helpfull.
Simply an amazing gift from GOD!!! TREMENDOUS VOCALS!
Marcelito has no formal musical training at all
Hi, peter I'm glad to be a part of your channel ,I'm #1fan of marcelito pomoy here in Philippines he's talented singer.
Lee.
i cant get enough of Marcelito I listen to him often
He truly is amazing, especially for someone who has had NO vocal training whatsoever!! He's had a very hard life. Lived on the streets for many years. Thanks for the reaction!
He is terrific, but your face watching him said a thousand words.
Ciao!
FYI: marcelito was not musically train,
Bcuz of the financial problem and abandoned by her own parent's and live on the street, his just imitating the song he heard.
Thats why so many filipino adore marcelito.😊
I like your comment on marcelito great job.
What. This is super amazing
Great reaction! Mabuhay, from the Philippines.
Back in the old days, Filipinos, especially in provinces, has this singing contest called “doble-kara” which means singing with dual voices. Marcelito have perfected that technique even though the fame of the style of singing has gone.
Thank you for the explanation
Marcelino sings like the voices of angels because he is gifted and how he does it is beyond comprehension because his gift is no less than a miracle given the fact that he never had any formal training in music. He is a natural pure and rare talent that baffles the mind of the experts of voice culture and professional artists alike.
He also covers Jennifer Rush´s The Power of Love
Power of love is Céline Dions song
I heard him for the first time on America’s Got Talent. He surprised everyone. But Mitch Grassi from Pentatonix has an amazing range too.
To be as good as the professionals is an amazing achievement, but let’s not forget, he’s self trained. From a impoverish background , he deserves to make it big and be recognised as a real star. God bless you Marcelino.
I LOVE HIS VOICE 😘😘😘
I think he was mainly mimicking Bocelli’s sound, hence the inefficiency. Since he didn’t have any training, he mimics most of the music he sings.
He's stunning...I agree I love the high voice...seems so effortless
When I first heard it I didn't recognize the Bocelli in Pomoy's way of singing at first. Even sounded a bit more like Josh Groban at times. Relistening both to old duet between Bocelli and Celine and the newer one (old one the one he most likely used as reference) I must say Pomoy definitely did changes. As in skipping the runs and almost whisper moments that the duo put in themselves making their version of the song. I actually like Pomoy's take on Bocelli more than Bocelli did himself.
He is really amazing singer and he is gifted voice incredible in a million human being is the only one can doing this voice.
You definitely help me understand what I’m hearing when you explain what is going on technically. After every video you post I feel like I have gained more knowledge and I appreciate that. Thank you.
I think he's naturally a high tenor, and is more comfortable going high than low.
Again peter shows us how much he appreciates and enjoys the abilitys and talents of others
