No Caesar during the much later Imperial era ever accepted this title, often times they cared more for claiming godhood rather than priesthood. Constantine never took such a name. By the time Rome was completely Christianized (by Constantine's grandson) the title of Pontifax Maximus was merely an honorific for the ranking clergyman in Rome, which by that time was the Pope.
I'm a former Roman catholic I left the church once I was saved and my eyes were open and I saw the truth and realized all I ever believed was a lie, I was deceived and lied to for 38 years. Today I'm a bible believing Christian with a great ministry praise God to lead Roman Catholics out from this false institution because they are deceived . this is not hatred this is pure love in Jesus. How did the people believed in Jesus before the 4th Century since there was no Bible?

JPII was indeed a source of scandal amongst faithful Catholics, but many gave him slack due to his opposition to communism.
