Its crazy hearing a former NBA player confirm that most teams pretty much gave up on competiting when KD was on the warriors. Those really were dark times lol
He means the GMs and not the players. Didn't have teams going over the tax like you do now.
JJ has some refreshing questions mixed with personal anecdotes that makes his podcasts one of the best.
Stop d riding 😂
@@steve13191you got issues bruh
@@steve13191 you a weirdo , he’s giving a compliment lol get off your phone an go outside 😂
@@steve13191i hope ur 12 years old
Well said
Props to Eric Gordon for still being in the league. He’s always been an offensive threat.
This dude JJ used to be drinking wine for every damn podcast episode. Knew he’d have to slow down at some point. Got that straight water now
😂😂
Its pretty interesting looking back 5 years, but those rockets teams get a lot of respect from NBA people for how good they were. I don't think most people care in their hearts as much about rings as its made out to be.
I also don't know if I fully agree with JJ's points about teams not trying. Philly made a bunch of moves to compete, Toronto made a pretty serious gamble. OKC traded for Paul George on an expiring contract and was willing to risk letting him walk for nothing.
JJ Reddick was on those Philly teams. I’d say he’d have a pretty good insight into whether or not teams really believed they could beat the Warriors in a 7 game series around that KD period.
@@DrGigoli Yes, I agree. He's said that they felt like they had a shot, which is why losing game 7 hurt as much as it did.
2018, dont forget the celtics had a good team too. They made huge moves the summer before, but Hayward broke his leg, kyrie was hurt, jayson and jalen were toddlers. And they still took the cavs to 7 in the the east finals. They always competed well against the warriors in the regular season, when they had close to a healthy core. Not a celtics fan btw.
Toddlers😅😂
They had a garbage offense without Kyrie. Great defense though
this episode hurt as a rockets fan
This episode hurt as a 2017-19 Warriors hater
@@Madvillainy48 fair enough 😂
At least we're finally back to a winning record after a few years 😭😭
If rockets would have won, that rockets/cavs final would have been really interesting.
JJ is so awesome. No hate, No BS like espn and other media shenanigans
It's interesting hearing the perspectives of eric gordon and chris paul on those rockets teams.
Their legs were gone by game 7. That’s the part people underestimated with the prime Warriors. They were runners. We know how it went down in 2019 ex KD.
Klay also got injured
The fact that D’antoni can’t get a job on an NBA team today should be criminal. Never gone the distance but always been right there
Seems like a good guy. Remember when he got hurt and basically sapped his athleticism away. Dude fought hard to make a long career.
They weren’t the only ones trying but they were the ones with the best chance
JJ's point is more that GMs stopped spending big money to get their teams over the hump. If you need to go 10 mil over the salary cap to get that last piece for your rotation, but you know you will run into the warriors the second round, you just won't spend that money.
The east was less drastic, but the west definitely had a Slump period, especially after 2017.
I guess OKC doesn't count.@@verward
OKC the other exception, and the Raptors ended up making the trade for Kawhi
But apart from that not really. The Wolves got Butler for not much at the time, same with Pelicans for boogie. The price for trading for talent was so low because no one thought they could beat them
thats exactly why Kd's move was weak. NBA got worse in every way@@verward
@@verward none of the GMs really moved pieces for 4 years...Darryl Morrey Opus Magnum was how he was able to reel in Luc Mbahoute, get Trevor Ariza on minimum, sign up Tucker, and move on from Dwight Howard by getting Chris Paul and then changing up the coaching in a matter of 4 months...everyone else was just resigning and waiting for Durant to bounce from the Warriors.
How the Thunder acquired draft capital was amazing, but again during this time GMs were busy developing their rosters instead of actively competing against the Warriors.
The amount of hate the Rockets got from both the media and fans of the NBA was ridiculous during this time as well
nice episode JJ, such quality content
They missed 27 straight 3s. Many wide open. Warriors got lucky. But every team has luck when they win. At some point you have to get lucky
As someone who rooted againsts the Warriros I knew the Rockets weren't winning that game when they kept chucking up 3's.
When you rewatch that game like 4 or 5 of those threes were clear fouls too I remember the league admitted to around 80 missed calls in that game or something crazy I was going crazy that year watching as a Harden fan😂
That was the difference in Game 7, but the game was still close until the last few minutes.
@@robbinseason7608yeah and somehow everyone forgot as soon as the series ended. The media just pretends like they just “missed” and that Harden “choked” when Scott foster was literally letting the warriors set illegal screens and allowing players to land in the shooting space of the rockets
@@robbinseason7608facts. Imagine if this happened to LeBron? His fans woulda still been crying to this day. Harden fans gotta deal w him being called a choker even tho he averaged 28-7-6 and 35-7-5 in back to back years while taking em 6&7.
I never had a problem with kd to the warriors until they stopped my goat harden from playoff success
underrated eric gordon
The only team who almost beat the warriors fully healthy kd,dray, klay, steph, iggy all of them were healthy and they almost lost in gm 7 struggling with 15 pt lead at halftime
Iggy was out that series
@@t.c.5476but what makes bigger difference when it comes to perform in clutch moments curry,kd and klay or 34 year old iggy
@@boratsagdyev6945 then why mention him if he didn’t matter lol
Iggy was there to be another defender and knock down the occasional 3 the warriors were gonna struggle with or without him tho not arguing that.
man the rockets fans and warriors haters keep clutching on that what ifs and buts, that same team with same players and coach, with healthy CP could not beat the warriors without KD ffs. stop this nonsense clutching at straws
I’ve always criticized D’Antoni for his defense but what EG said makes a lot of sense. What hurts is when you’re not making shots & missing out on rebounds because you switched a smaller guy into the paint. That’s exactly why they always lost in the playoffs
They lost because of injuries and suspensions more so.
They lost in the playoffs because of biased officiating, a historically bad shooting night, injury to their best or second best player, and going up against a better more stacked roster.
Same thing happened in Phoenix/Houston with the Spurs/Warriors. Amare suspended for nothing, Nash/CP3 injured, and Spurs/Warriors were always the more stacked team who also benefited from a biased whistle.
You have refs on the record talking about ignoring moving screens because they were mesmerized by Steph and Klay’s shooting ability, nobody was beating that team with KD as even more insurance.
I always think D' Antoni was the reason why that Rockets lose against the Warriors bec they were missing a lot of 3s and still didnt make any adjustments at all
They went all in on the plan and nearly beat that HISTORIC warriors team! Can't blame the coach for missing 27 straight 3s. They got extremely unlucky when it mattered most, that's just it
Eric Gordon and KAT have to of the most shocking voices😂
Speaking factual lmao gonna start using that
Eric Gordon sounds like the kid who won the science fair
I hope your next guest Lonzo Ball JJ Reddick 🙏🙏🙏
Can we stop pretending like the Spurs didn't compete? Spurs won 61 games and was cruising to a first game won before kawhi gets hurt
Smh. I was so heated when Kawhi went down in Game 1.
So many casuals are oblivious to the fact not all 3’s are equal. Being further back puts the D in such a tough position. If you extend to 28 ft on D, you are leaving the lane exposed. If you don’t extend, you’re eating the 3. When casuals talk about all that great 90’s D, they don’t realize those players never had to deal with that, they got to protect mid range and in, and if most of them tried stepping out 28 ft, they’d be virtually useless on D. Far easier to defend back then because you could just dare the opposition to beat you from deep. Yes Reggie, Ray, Rice, and a few others could hurt you, but entire teams couldn’t hurt you
2018 rockets taught they could outshoot the best shooting backcourt and KD
If only that had happened.
On the other end you weren't gonna outscore us..well they did that's how the game is won the team with the most points lol
I don't think Spurs had given up.
I got two friends who say that Iman Shumpert better than Eric Gordon and I can’t get them to understand that EG still in the league and Shump isn’t… so that makes EG more valuable and a better player for today’s game.
Because they wanted to win the championship, right? Why else would they want to to stop them
eg got a nerdy voice
Reason Houston could never beat gs they thought they could out shoot em
Kobe said it....
Can't win chips with Harden.
another npc lead by the media lmfao dumb casual, kobe said that when cp3 was injured in 2019 and harden had to average 40. kobe added that they had a chance of winning when cp3 shares the load with harden
casual
First Like!!!
EG really hops from team to team trying to ring chase and expects coaches to draw up plays for him 😂 Makes sense why you'd join the Suns with KD, Booker & Beal
He’s played for 4 teams bro what the hell are you talking about???
man if kd didn’t joined the warriors, lebron might have another 2 rings, houston was a hell of a team though but they don’t have kd and lbj’s goat debate should’ve more gap than it is!
Warriors going 4 5th this yr🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️🤣🤣

Gotta make the playoffs first
Is it just me or is Eric Gordon....boring?
Like I've seen a few clips from this podcast and he doesn't really seem to bring any novel insight or energy.
Maybe it's just me, I don't know.
He’s always been a LOWKEY guy.
@@TheTroyTatesuper lowkey got that sniper tho

If Chris didn't get hurt. They would've won
Its Chris Paul, he never wins anything with pressure on the line. Healthy or not.
If iggy didn’t get hurt it’s a 5 game series
Kd was huet in 2019 and the rockets still didn't win
@@zbt62iggy? When yall already had KD, Dray, Steph, and Klay that wasn’t enough? 😂
@@lorddj9910 I could argue iggy was the 3rd most important player in that series after KD and steph . He wouldev been on Paul or harden
Rockets were easy work for the Warriors, as a matter of fact...the Warriors disbanded both the Rockets and the Cavs. broke em up. made Lebron go to L.A.
KD on the warriors disbanded them. Warriors 15'-16' were great but not atrociously unfair and uncompetitive, even JJ just said how boring those years were
Lebron was going to the lakers eventually. Even if he beat the warriors.
@@beanteam2217stop it the warriors ran lebrick outta Cleveland simple as that 🤣🤣🤡🤡
don’t wanna hear any nonsense about that “tried” sh*t. facts of the matter is you didn’t.
and they did it cause they were the better TEAM. the played team offense (motion) while y’all were playing iso, pick and roll, drive and kick basketball.
