BLACKFOOT 2.0: www.montanakni...
THE ONLY HUNTING KNIFE YOU’LL EVER NEED.
When Master Bladesmith Josh Smith launched Montana Knife Company, he set out to create the ultimate do-it-all knife - small and light enough to pack on a goat hunt, durable enough to completely field dress a moose, and shaped to gut, cape, skin, and debone with ease. He called this flagship knife “The Blackfoot,” and it remains his go-to blade.
Named for Lincoln, Montana’s Blackfoot River Valley where Josh grew up, the Blackfoot is the ideal companion for every activity in the region: from fly fishing to bird hunting to big game expeditions. It’s the perfect fusion of thinness, lightness, sharpness, toughness, and versatility. If you can only take one knife with you in the field, this is it.
Versatile Blade Shape
The Blackfoot’s drop point blade shape is key to its versatility. It has enough tip for easily caping out an animal or doing other fine work (yes, including those difficult tear ducts), but enough belly for skinning and deboning.
Parkerized 52100 Carbon Steel Blade
The Blackfoot is made from cryogenically treated 52100 high-carbon ball-bearing steel, achieving the perfect balance of edge retention, toughness, wear resistance, and easy resharpening. The blade is also parkerized to a matte black finish, which minimizes rust and glare.
Compact Size & Weight
Most knives - especially “do-it-all” knives - are completely overbuilt for the job they’re intended for. Not the Blackfoot. With a blade length of 3.5" and a total length of 7.75", the Blackfoot can go anywhere. We also skeletonized the tang (the steel part of the handle) to shed unnecessary weight, bringing the total weight to 3.6 oz. But don’t let the small size fool you - the Blackfoot is big and strong enough for heavy work, like cutting through a pelvis or rib cage.
Bulletproof G-10 Handle Scales
The G-10 handle scales are equally as tough as the blade. G-10 is famous for being strong, durable, and lightweight - unmatched by any natural handle material. It can withstand any abuse without cracking or breaking, won’t absorb blood, and provides excellent grip, even when wet. The contours of the handle are also designed for comfort in extended use. The G-10 scales are attached with locally sourced titanium screws and high-strength epoxy to secure the perfect, lasting fit.

I have been using a Blackfoot 2.0 as my EDC knife for almost a year, and it has become my favorite knife. If you are watching this video and don't have one, I highly recommend it.
out of stock so much for always having these in stock
My new Blackfoot just arrived ! My 2nd Montana knife!! Stoked
Josh, I own 4 of your knives already. They are AWESOME knives! Keep up the great work!
Just take my money…lol😂
Great Knife!
I worked as a taxidermist for many years and have been a lifelong hunter. At age 50 now, I've used a knife many times in my life and caped thousands of animals. That Blackfoot looks to be the perfect size. I've been using an Argali skeleton pack knife from S35VN, but I really want to try one of your Blackfoots. I have been battling Rheumatoid arthritis since my mid 20's and have found it easier to use a smaller knife, as long as it's hair popping sharp, even if I have a choice of blades, and weight isn't an issue.
I’m actually moving up to montana next month as my new duty station assignment.
If y’all have a Blackfoot in stock when I get there I’m buying one! Preferably in matnacut
I have a Blackfoot it’s my go to knife. I do wish you offered it in a 4 inch ish blade with a sharpened spine for scraping firesteel as I do a lot bushcraft stuff as well. That would be the perfect knife
Cannot wait …
Hi, I recently picked up the Speedgoat in Magnacut.
I think you hit it out of the park for its intended use. (light weight, rust proof, light enough for a "gram" counting hiker to want to carry.)
From a cutting performance view is the 52100 steel going to cut better?
Will it tend to "bite" into the material being cut?
What is the Rockwell hardness target for the steel?
I prefer harder steel and longer edge retention.
Very little need to "touch up" in the field. (never is ideal for me) My first deer skinning knife was a Benchmade Griptillion in 154CM, never needed to sharpen during the season.
Typically could field dress 3-4 deer with zero loss of sharpness.
I am looking forward to trying out the Blackfoot. I may have to lend some blades out to get real world testing and reviewing done.
Cutting cardboard and rope is in no way related to skinning out animals.
👍
