I love my Presto Digital Canner. It does not heat up the house or take up stove space. If anything goes wrong…. It throws an error message and will not move forward. I love this canner.

I am 68 years old, have been canning my entire life. When I was very young, our whole family helped on some days. Like tomato days. Picking, washing, blanching,
skinning, cleaning and sterilizing jars/lids,canning the tomatoes. My dad had a huge garden every year,my 4 older brothers and I kept weeds out and helped pick produce.
Dad built a wood fire outside, they had a heavy metal grate that was only used for this. After the fire got started we had a huge tub of water to water bath the things that were water bathed.
I don’t believe we had a pressure canner. We did can lots of stuff including green beans, but it seems they were canned for much longer times.
I glanced at the electric canners, but the way this world is now,we sure don’t know how much longer we will have electricity,so I passed on them. I have a very limited income and I have 2 pressure canners and 3-4 water bath ones.
    God Bless ya’all

Electric Pressure Canner is great for small batches. Also we have a Propane Camping Shower so that if we should loose power or have other issues with hot water we can still take a hot shower as when you have a lot of negative things going on sometimes just taking a hot shower will relieve some of the stress involved.

I have both electric water bath and presto pressure canner. I have an older glass top cook stove and wad unable to maintain a constant temperature on it, Especially with the pressure canner. The stove would actually shut off if the cook top gets to warm, then turn back on when it cools off. But having watched your comments I will be very careful with these appliances but necessity says I need to use them periodically. Thank you for all you do!!

I’ve been pressure canning for over 45 years. I have several presto and All American pressure canners. Several years ago I purchased a Nesco Electric pressure canner. It has been third party tested and comes with two parts- which act as Shuttle Cocks and weights - one for 10 lb and one for a 15 lb weight. As we have 5 of our grandchildren living on the farm with us for the summers - and the youngest much of the year (way more fun and educational for them than daycare) I find myself using my electric a great deal during the year. I can set it going - and after the initial steam evacuation - once pressure is reached - I can walk away and tend to the kids - the farm - and often get to bed before 2 AM.
I’d would highly, highly recommend for busy moms - especially those with little people.

I am addicted to my Presto Digital Canner. I can almost daily with it. I love it so much I have bought extra backup parts in case I run into an issue. I have only gotten one E3 error and it was because the tab up in the top inside of the lid popped off. Presto sent me a new top with a new wheel and silicone seal, they knew there was a problem so they removed one spoke in the wheel and that way it does not run into the L shaped clip which is an essential part needed for canning. Anyways I love mine!

I have one and that is why I bought the Presto Electruc canner. I have water bath canned on it but you have to be really careful about not sliding it across the top while it is full of water and jars. It is too heavy for me to lift now so I also bought an electric water bath canner. Now I dont have to worry about the cooktop. I can put both canners by the sink so they are easier to fill and drain!

I have a 20 something year old electric stove. I have never had any issues or siphoning my entire life until moving to this house with this stove. I have lost so much food due to siphoning. I’m guessing the issue is that the electric burners come on and off on their own unlike just running on a flame and it stays there. Ugh!

I don't have a gas stove, and can't have one here. So have been looking for a way to can other than a steam canner on the stove. And I have a glass top stove and most canners cannot be used on my stove, because of the design of the bottom of the pots and and going on and off of the burners during the cooking cycle.
So if I want to go back to canning, I will need to buy and use an electric canner. Which ones for pressure canning is best?

I have also used it to cook my apples in for applesauce since it holds so much more than any regular pot. Then I run it through my food mill. Never have to lift or carry it anywhere……with that being said….i also use my steam canner and also have the old stove top water bath canner and at times have had them all going at once.

The canner that failed was the Presto digital canner for thick pasta sauce. The pasta sauce passed for the Nesco/Carey and Instant Pot Max. By the way, the first time she processed the pasta sauce in her Presto STOVETOP canner it also failed with the recommended processing time for the tested recipe. She increased the processing time to 90 minutes (time recommended for all meats) and all canners passed except the Presto digital canner.

@Melissa K. Norris - Modern Homesteading As dad used to say, "just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it's not there." I don't know how to explain the mechanics behind it, but I do know from using my Presto that I bought used, it does work. Now, my elevation is 400 ft. Prev owners lived higher elevation. And they said it worked just fine. While they're electronic, I feel SOOO much safer using one of these. I could never figure out a standard pressure canner. Not to mention having to pay attention to it constantly, where as this just beeps at me and tells me thr next step..and not one jar has failed because I don't have to constantly worry about what to do next.

Presto electric canner is preset to 15 PSI no matter what your elevation is. Nesco provides 10 and 15 PSI regulators. The Instant Pot Max allows you to set elevation.

I don't trust electronics ae a general rule and I'm certainly not going to trust a computer to make sure my food is safe.
Even if, out of the box, an electric pressure canner is perfect and wonderful there is no way to know when it starts to fail.
One commenter stated that it shows an error if something isn't right. What if that part of the programming is the first thing that goes bad?
No thank you. I'll stick with what has worked for the last 100 years or so.

Tbh this gives me a migraine. Other countries do not have USDA guidelines. Remember the USDA allowed pesticides in our food supply that make us ill. Modesto for example which Melissa also did a podcast on. So in my book the USDA is not the gospel of canning or my food supply. I have done my research. Nesco/Carey canners have been rigorously tested, the entire plant is tested. Every year this is done. Canning safely is a priority. With that said, I personally chose the Nesco because according to the studies and independent ones , presto and another one does not perform well at higher altitudes. Nesco/Carey does as it comes with a regulator. Which has also been tested rigorously.

Keep some of the skepticism, you are trying to discern which is a good thing. A lot of western Christians fixate on personalizing everything in scripture, which is wrong and quite narcissistic. Scripture studies include context. The overall purpose of the Word is to direct us to Jesus, not self. And yes, He does love and care for us. 😀
