I've had this game for quite awhile, but played it for the first time today. I love it! I definitely want to get the expansions: the ladybug, mosquito and pillbug. Thank you for this video; it was very helpful.
So is it only during the first 4 turns (or until the Queen is brought into play) that you are NOT able to have your own pieces touch the other colored tiles? After the 4th turn, or queen is in play you could then have a piece brought into play touching both colors? (ex 1:07)
All of them - until you loose :) - the spider just has some more restricted movement. It’s like a pawn in chess - can be powerful as a ally - but harder to position.
@@Quackalope you mean - until I WIN :) lol. The pawn reference makes sense. I will definitely pick this game up. Any other games similar to this? Easy to learn, hard to master straight forward and doesn't require 100 different pieces? Thanks in advanced.
Placing queen first with 2 spiders in a V is banned in competition. It can lead to draws but is quite powerful as both spiders first move can lock a piece. It's good in casual play.
@@Doggmatic_ Onitama, Mandala, The Fox in the Forest, Targi, Imhotep: The Duel, Star Realms, Coup and Air, Land and Sea all fit in this category and are all two-player games with the exception of Star Realms which has a multiplayer variant.
Does anyone know if it's possible to buy reverse side stickers for the additional expansion bugs in hive venom (wasp, dragonfly, firefly, tick, centipede, fly, scorpion, shieldbug), and if so, where? Thanks.
I’ve had the pocket edition for a few years now, so whenever I see the normal pieces they look ginormous.
Yea I have been planing on grabbing the pocket edition soon XD - it’s the one I always gift to people.

No you can only place new tiles into the hive that do not touch your opponents colour.
When moving existing tiles it doesn't matter
Are all pieces used or a selected few?
What can the spider do that the ant cant?

At minute 4:41 you mentioned the beetle trap the queen which can no longer move, so how can I pull out or rescue it? With pillbug?
You can pull the beetle with the pillbug, as far as a understand the Insects under the Beetle are unmovable as long as the beetle is on top
If I surround my opponent's queen, but my pillbug is on top, do I have to move the pillbug first revealing the queen before winning?
No
I can see Pixar “a bug’s life” sequel by watching this game play
I want a pocket carbon edition with all three expansions bugs!
Can I move the pillbug? Or I just move the piece adjacent to the pillbug?
You can move the pillbug like the queen for 1 or use his abbility
I think it’s ridiculous that pillbug isn’t in the carbon edition
Don't know when they came out :)
Hive 2001
Mosquito 2007

Pillbug 2013
So helpful

You could just print them for yourself and glue them onto your pieces maybe? Or use two sided tape
@@jenova2916 True. Thanks.
