  • This is my live set from New England Synth Fest, held October 28, 2023 in Burlington, MA, as taken from the live stream. The visuals were made by Jame Coyne. Thanks to everyone at NESF, who ran a very smooth show with great sound, and especially Bob Familiar for sending me this video and inviting me to participate.
I was playing two Wingie2 devices, both tuned to Meta Slendro (which is built into firmware v3.21). One Wingie was in resonator mode, and the other was in a feedback loop to make it playable as a continuously sustained sustained keyboard instrument. On the modular synth, the sound of the Wingie2 was used in several layers, which included driving two oscillators (one for each Wingie channel) via hard sync. Lots of other processing with modulation in various domains, nearly all using chaotic and random sources. Once mixed down to stereo, the sound passes through a Strymon El Capistan in sound-on-sound loop mode and an Eventide H9 for reverb (Black Hole).
I'm working on a new in-studio version which I hope to release soon, probably for Bandcamp Friday on November 3rd.
At the time of the performance, I had not yet named the piece. Since then, I decided to use "Mesektet". In ancient Egypt, this was the name of the boat that the sun god Ra sails through the underworld every night.
