They will thieve anything and everything of value from the land to the last shilling in your pocket... They would take your very drawers and leave you bare arsed on the roadside to die from starvation and hypothermia.....

You dont need to look into history to see that shetland has not always been part of scotland. A lot of the little islands around it still have Norse names theres even a sign post in Lerwick that has "one" of shetlands old names Zetland.
Its the same all over really, one rich estate owner will tell you he owns "X" land but to find out who really owns it you would have to trace it back to the person they stole it from.
I spent a bit of time on shetland my self was also born there and I do think shetland is very important for Scotland. Any one that trys to break that up, I would question the very motive behind it. Some skeletons are best left in the closet.

The Hebrides was named after Hebrew settlers landed there.

I bought Dejah a very old painting a few days ago. The story of the painting was of a coastal setting in Shetland Islands. Frederica A. Morrano painted a scene of a Shepard and his Sheep on a path to the ocean in the morning at low tide to feed his sheep seaweed. We had been looking for a painting of spiritual nature and Dejah fell in love with this painting. We brought it home and hung it on the wall in our dinning room and starred at it for a long time.... Dejah found out that the sheep where in fact Shetland Sheep from the Shetland Island and then the story of the painting came alive. The previous owner said the painting belonged to her Mother and it hung over their fireplace all her young years and more since she is age 78 now.. She was very sentimental when she spoke of her Mother and the memories of her were priceless so much that I could only get her to bring the price down a few dollars. It was a good find. Do you know of the Artist?

All the land of all the continents belongs to everyone and no-one. How can an individual or group of individuals own bits of the planet. If you think someone owns land because they paid for it, then I ask, who did the first person who owned that land buy it from. All land is claimed and protected by forceful defence, that's all.

How did the Danes own Shetland ?
Did they invade and take them with the help of the Norwegians.
Can you tell me who houses Shetlands criminals, protects Shetland waters, Who protected Shetland during WW1 and WW2.
I'll tell you Scotland houses Shetlands criminals and when i asked if we got independance where we would build a prison, the answer i got was, we will rent out space in Scottish prisons, when it came to protecting the waters, we will pay Scotland to do that and who protected Shetland in WW1 and 2 where a large number of young men served and lost their lives fighting for Britain, Scotland and the rest of the UK that is who.
You seem to forget Scotland 'unfortunately' isn't an independant country and the English parliment makes decisions for both Scotland and Shetland.
Also you don't mention or seem to be aware of the hold Scottish Masonary has on Lerwick.
Shetland has a few familys in Shetland who think they have the power and sit in the places of authority already, nothing would change for the people as you say, except higher prices and higher taxes then what we already have.
People and business would leave and who would then have to pay for the maintenance of the infrastructure and at what cost, we already know about the inefficiency's of the council ?
You only have to look at the leaky museum roof. the huge extra cost to the Muriel, the Bressa bridge rip off, the salmon farm bailouts and who got them etc, not just the wind farm and you want these people to have ultimate control ?
Who do you think should be the King of Shetland Stuart ?
What do we do about the incomers like you, would you have to apply for citizenship or have to get a work permit to stay here ?
I like your idealism, i really do, people power, self determination etc.
But you don't seem to recognise what we have now and how these people who hold the reigns would exploit Shetland for their own personal gain before leaving Shetland, to start a new life somewhere like New Zealand after they had squeezed the last penny's out of us.
Wake up man and smell the coffee.

Dude, historically we all lived in caves and all land is conquered and all states are made by force at some point. Your idea is naive and stupid.
