Excellent tutorial, Steve. I commend you for the Nido mitigation protocols.

Awesome video. I really appreciate the mention of the risk in maternal incubation. As of right now it's pretty much assumed that nidovirus would never live through the incubation period (~75 days for brongersmai, isn't it?), right? Is it different for the species specific viruses? Very interesting.

Preliminary research shows that they seem to have environmental stability close to what was predicted based on related coronaviruses, where sub two weeks at room temp inactivates essentially all live virus. And likely even less for higher temps/humidity. Any amount of cold like a fridge or freezer and virus survives much much longer. So sanitizing these eggs is likely not needed. But I figure it’s better to be safe, since maybe maybe maybe a virus imbedded in dried mucus is more protected. But there’s really no evidence to suggest that is true.

Real interested in how the phenotypes will meld together. Do you think what Miss Tracy calls level 4 Slackline is a super Stripe super Banded?

I actually haven't heard of a level 4, but that would seem potentially likely. I have both VPI superstripes as well as slacklines and there is considerable overlap in looks between the two, there's also a ton of variation in the level 2 stripes, and striping seems to be one of the most common morphs with these guys, which leads me to believe what really gives slackline the power to do some neat stuff is that level 1. If the first spider ball python ever imported turned out to be a bumblebee, I predict it would have taken us awhile to figure out they are actually two unrelated traits and not different levels of the same trait. Or I could be entirely wrong. But I would be excited to see what happens in attempts isolating the banded trait.

What do you put on the eggs and wipe them?
What is spraying on the paper?

1:200 dilution of F10 veterinary disinfectant. A quaternary ammonium cleaner.
