You definitely have to give it to his personal mechanic, Faustino Munoz , for all of the small details that make the bike. He's widely known as the best mechanic in the peloton and frequently squabbles with Specialized over all of the small details. Great video, easily one of the best looking bikes in the peloton today and I'll miss it!
It wouldn't surprise me if Faustino is just out of shot giving Lasty evils every time he gets too close :-) I'm actually not a fan of the shiny shiny paint job but the bike just exudes the skill and care that has gone into the build and setup.
oh, looks like the love child of my S-Works Allez and my S-Works Tarmac. 7.07kg seems heavy though for DA mechanical, carbon bars and 40mm tubs - must be quite a bit of weight in that paint. Probably on Contador's wall by now! Love it.
Finally something a pro does that I do.. Tape wrapped from the center of the bars so as to avoid sticky electric tape breaking down right where you sometimes grip them. Why do 90 percent of riders wrap from the ends and so few use this old school method. #askGCN
Usually the pros do keep all the gear. There are exceptions, sometimes the team will give certain bikes or gear to sponsors or donors, but generally speaking the rider will keep at least one of their bikes as well as most of the accessories. This results in pros selling their old gear on ebay and other places and I know people who have bought ex-pro gear either from the rider or the team. On the national level it's more mixed and sometimes smaller teams will auction off a bunch of the bikes to recoup some of their money at the end of the gear life cycle.
what is the blade tension of the pedals? I read somewhere that Contador likes the 20nm and until the blade2 model offered that possibility (keo blade1 only had 12 & 16nm), he used the vo2max at full tension like many sprinters did. thank you
i'd stay with a specialized sponsored team just for that bike- money doesn't talk THAT much! :L also, is he still using a magnetic speed sensor? there is a magnet on the front wheel and a sensor on the fork?
Simon Fraser SRM units use a magnetic speed sensor, and I believe Contador uses the SRM. I noticed that the SRM cranks were conspicuously absent though. Maybe swapped out for the video?
When I spoke about tarmac, it's not the model from Specialized; it's the asphalt since he hit the tarmac--asphalt--quite a lot in grand tours early this year!
Great video. At this point, I'm fairly certain I'm the only person in the world who thinks this bike looks just plain awful. My least favorite custom pro bike of the last year or two. I guess it's just not my thing.
Mr Brick you forgot to mention the 3 color representing vuelta, tour and giro is not represented as always, because if you put in the order I mentioned before, you'll get the Spanish Republican flag, which is a bit controversial. So that's why they've put a different order from previous bikes. Cheers!
Hi John Moser, I was lucky enough to bump into Mr Contador while he was training on his black Specialized Tarmac Stealth bike (as he called himself). So I asked about the special editions of the tarmac he enjoyed in the past and he told me the only thing he asked to Specialized was to avoid to put the color scheme of the vuelta, tour and giro that way because some many people, especially spaniards, asked if he was left wing or Republican because the Second Republican Spanish flag has the same color scheme. In order to avoid misinterpretations they changed slightly the color of the giro as well, making it pinkier. Have a nice day!
GCN, don't you know, Contador is a convicted doper! Not only is he a convicted doper, he never confessed it and he insists of his victories of TdF 2010 and Giro 2011. That shows no respect to the anti doping fight at all. He is one of the people who are destroying the cycling sport. GCN: The least thing you can do is ignore him!
The paint job of energizer batteries
secret sponsor?
I would have to say this is my favorite paint job that Specialized has done for its athletes in several years.
You definitely have to give it to his personal mechanic, Faustino Munoz , for all of the small details that make the bike. He's widely known as the best mechanic in the peloton and frequently squabbles with Specialized over all of the small details.

Very interesting Gabe. Do you know if Faustino moves with Contador to Trek?
I don't have confirmation, but absolutely yes.
slimjimihendrix Ha ha cheers Slim XD
It wouldn't surprise me if Faustino is just out of shot giving Lasty evils every time he gets too close :-)
I'm actually not a fan of the shiny shiny paint job but the bike just exudes the skill and care that has gone into the build and setup.
An absolute stunner of a bike
Lasty escapes the "That's not Di2, you utter utter noob" curse. Cheers.
Contador has the best style of the whole pro peloton!!!
So we are going to seen a new bike from Alberto Contador soon since he is moving to Trek?
Btw great video!
Emonda SLR!
lol
Lasty is the best at these videos
Looks like a Energizer battery, but i like it
wonder if that's where Contador gets his inspiration - the Energiser bunny!!
oh, looks like the love child of my S-Works Allez and my S-Works Tarmac. 7.07kg seems heavy though for DA mechanical, carbon bars and 40mm tubs - must be quite a bit of weight in that paint. Probably on Contador's wall by now! Love it.
Good Job Tom. Presenting in such heat where you can barely keep your eyes open. ;)
that bike is a stunner. would look great next to my Venge pro.
see a lot of riders using look pedals, wonder how they ride. great gator wires too
'es got ceramic speed all over the shop young man.
Unsure what is better; The bike, or watching Lasty drooling all over it.
1:48 Alberto likes the feel of a mechanical
i want a chrome bike too !
Makes me want to go ride my S-Works Allez... always fun to overhear people thinking it's the same/similar bike as Contador's!
Gorgeous !
beautiful bike
Finally something a pro does that I do.. Tape wrapped from the center of the bars so as to avoid sticky electric tape breaking down right where you sometimes grip them. Why do 90 percent of riders wrap from the ends and so few use this old school method. #askGCN
One of your best ! 👍🏼
I can't wait to see him on a Emonda next year.
yeah project one paint job.
All pros should put in their contract that they keep all the gear and bikes they use.
Usually the pros do keep all the gear. There are exceptions, sometimes the team will give certain bikes or gear to sponsors or donors, but generally speaking the rider will keep at least one of their bikes as well as most of the accessories. The saddle quite forward, he usually has more back position.
His inner bar tape is taped normally but the outer tape is wound in abnormally because it wound otherwhise unwind easely
Lasty - the palest person on the planet - working on his tan!!
Some people see a stunning machine - I just see a bike that still needs pedalling!
Whoa, sweaty Lasty! Look but don't touch.
Goo don't look at me I'm an ugly sweaty mess and my make-up is all ruined :(
This is gol... silver! I would love to have something like that...
what is the blade tension of the pedals? I read somewhere that Contador likes the 20nm and until the blade2 model offered that possibility (keo blade1 only had 12 & 16nm), he used the vo2max at full tension like many sprinters did. thank you

no wonder Matt rides a trek
Why haven't they gotten Lasty his travel stool yet?
You're taking the pi55. It's freezing here and I don't have one of these bikes
Lasty's forearms are the same color as the sand
Nice
It's a beautiful machine but why can't he ride this Specialized Tarmac while riding for Trek Factory Racing next year? ;)
Wayne Richter trek make bicycle.
Where is the power meter?
Since report saddle height would u mind report the rider height or inseam. Although u can find the height value infor at Wiki. Thk 👍
Mọi người biết mua khung xe đạp này ở đâu không ? Giúp tôi với 🇻🇳
Odd that he has the magnetic speed sensor.
A lot of riders do. They're more accurate than GPS or accelerometer systems apparently.
Simon Fraser SRM units use a magnetic speed sensor, and I believe Contador uses the SRM. I noticed that the SRM cranks were conspicuously absent though. Maybe swapped out for the video?
Chad Chenoweth
If I remember correctly, Contador doesn't race to power.
Hopefully, Contador won't be spending so much time on tarmac next year when he rides Trek (Madone, perhaps).
When I spoke about tarmac, it's not the model from Specialized; it's the asphalt since he hit the tarmac--asphalt--quite a lot in grand tours early this year!
nice video, but no look at the rear mech??!
How do you take the bikes away to film? Do they just let you take them?
No, it's all about blowjobs here and there in this business.
What size frame is it? +global cycling network
Where's the power meter? What does he use?
So hard rn
What's the sensor on the front wheel and folk?
lol tom was melting 2 minutes in the video
Front wheel valve open?
why didn't you fix that saddle?? that can't be it's correct position?
I think it looks funny because the rear wheel is lifted off the sand but it got me questioning his geometry hah
Stephen Carman
shade perhaps?
what is the difference beetwen so called sprint shifters and climbing one? #torqueback
climbing are on the tops, sprint in the drops. The button itself is also pretty different
So if I have this with the moving brake lever and second shifting lever underneath it I have sprint shifters, am I right?
Grzegorz Cichosz what's "this"?
sprint shifters are little buttons on the bars, not the shifters integrated onto brake levers.
Grzegorz Cichosz You got normal STI levers like every road bike. Those sprint and climbing shifters are extra shifters for Shimano DI2
What's that thing behind the chainrings at 4:09 ?
Magnet for the cadence sensor / power meter, I guess
prob a chain catcher or something
You're correct, its a k-edge chain catcher.
what is there to say about paint job...
Great video. At this point, I'm fairly certain I'm the only person in the world who thinks this bike looks just plain awful. My least favorite custom pro bike of the last year or two. I guess it's just not my thing.
They could also probably shave some weight by moving to a non magnetic back wheel ;-)

Get it out of the sand!!!!
Contador dare not use deeper wheels, he is one cyclist who needs all the help he can get staying upright. (even moreso than Matt).
Mr Brick you forgot to mention the 3 color representing vuelta, tour and giro is not represented as always, because if you put in the order I mentioned before, you'll get the Spanish Republican flag, which is a bit controversial. Great info. where did you read it?

che bici di cacca

Congrats!
