I will never own a truck without a Duramax diesel of some sort in it. Rather that be the 3.0L which I currently own or a 6.6L. Love the 3.0L motor!
I agree with you on the shifter. I have a habit of pulling the shifter back to go in reverse out of the garage! To me I feel like pulling it backwards should make the truck go in reverse. Pushing it forward you should move forward. The park button I eventually got use to but I would like GM to get rid of the shifter all together.

There is a lock feature on the top portion to prevent accidental drops on a hitch. I think you have to hold the top button for a few seconds to LOCK it. Also B&W makes a really nice multi ball drop hitch that works with the tailgate panel down and also has a 2.5" shank so no need for the adapter sleeve and having to store the clunky metal part

I’m really very impressed with the Chevy truck performance / Price value on these trucks.
I’ve priced out Chevy, GMC, Ford and Toyota. Toyota was the most affordable in a Platinum level type trims. But GMs a close second and in some cases the same.
Here is what I like. You can get a Chevy High Country with the 90% of the upgrades with the diesel for $65,000 in our area.
The Ford F-150 Platinum with hybrid is going to hit $73,000-$76,000. The Toyota Platinum Hybrid will hit $71,000. The GMC Denali $72,000-$78,000. Ram doesn’t offer a hybrid or a diesel now. I did find several 2023 Limited Longhorn diesels still for sell but they were all $83,000-$91,000.
GM is doing some pretty cool stuff right now.

I can laugh about this now but at the time not so much, had a few to drink and got my wife to drive us home and her being unfamiliar with my zr2 put the truck in drive instead of reverse and almost hit our niece. So I agree it's definitely not the most ideal shifter design for a world who is used to a traditional PRND .

    • @captainrawn

See my comment above. I had a similar experience backing up to a trailer and nearly hit my wife. I was sober lol. The shifter is absolutely unacceptable if you ask me. How it ever passed the sniff test gives you an idea of how stupid some of these design engineers really are. Put 10 people who have never been in one before in the driver's seat and every one of them would struggle with it right off the bat.

Also have to factor the costs to consumers of diesel, plus the huge payload hit given weight of the engine. In a half-ton, the few hundred pounds engine weight can be a big deal. A ford maverick has 1500lb payload, what's the payload of this truck?
I don't like truck reviews that do not highlight 'truck' features, vs car or luxury truck lipstick on that pig features. Why didn't you cover payload and towing? It's a truck, but this is a car review. Or a Chevy infomercial?
All that said, love the channel. Keep on truck'in!

    • @ferretsmiles

There is not a huge payload hit with the diesel. If you cared about payload you wouldn't be buying a zr2 anyway.

I have a 2022 ZR2 in desert tan metallic and I can tell you it is the best color at hiding dirt I have ever had. Rarely washed it this summer even after off road camping. Looks like new again after a rain and doesn't show dust.
Also your rant about the shifter is correct. I'm used to it now but it took a while. I also put it in reverse a couple of times thinking it was in park. It's a total bullshit deal designed by some video game playing engineer. Classic example of making a simple device into something complicated for no reason. One of my wife's old Jeeps had a similar shifter in 2015 but it was changed to something more traditional not long after for good reasons. GM PAY ATTENTION HERE THAT SHIFTER IS TERRIBLE!
I was interested in looking at the same truck with the diesel but they dropped the sand dune color and that has given me pause because as bland as it is to some people I really love it mostly for the reasons stated above.

There is a safety measure where if someone leaves transmission is Drive or even Reverse, when you open up the driver's side door and take your foot off the brake to start getting out, the transmission / system automatically puts the transmission in Park. I will save you the wait. There are only two engine options and my 6.2 L gas engine ZR2 would blow the doors off the 3.0 L diesel truck in a drag race.

    • @captainrawn
      @captainrawn 3 місяці тому

@@claysmurthwaite2386Well to me constantly getting 19 to 21 MPG which is 11 to 13 litres per 100km on the highway doing about 120 km hour here in Alberta in my nearly 6000 lbs truck is 💯 decent. I'm not heavy footed with it very often. Varies mostly depending on the wind. Yeah the smaller fuel tank sucks mostly when towing at the max rating with my travel trailer where fuel economy is 9 to 11 MPG when the combined weight is 14,900 lbs.
Unloaded it is better than my 2005 Tacoma V6 double cab 4x4, and my 2015 f350 diesel. My 2022 ZR2 is the most economical to operate out of the 3 of them period. Towing that same travel trailer with my F350 is only marginally better than the 6.2 gas Chevy. The Ford does about 11 to 12 MPG and diesel is more expensive than gas. I'm honestly very satisfied with the ZR2 and it is the first Chevy truck I have ever owned in over 60 years of living. I considered trading it for the same truck with a 3 litre diesel engine but with the higher cost of diesel, price of DEF and the amount they use, more expensive oil changes and other potential maintenance and I don't see much difference in operating costs between the two. All everyone talks about is the MPG of the little 3 litre diesel but the is much more to consider than that long term.
      Cheers 😊

Please ask the question about towing this truck if inoperable! I own a 23 Silverado with this transmission shifter. Last year had the fuel gel up and would not start. I needed to roll the truck downhill about 100 yards to get it into my heated shed to heat the fuel system, but am unable to shift it to neutral without the truck running. Was a very painful experience in -20F day. I was able to get it started by using tarps and a salamander heater for a couple of hours. I am now very careful about where I park the truck on cold says.

I'd consider it if I could put it in my Garage.

The reason Jeep got rid of that shifter was because of the actor from the newer Star Trek movies died from being crushed by his Jeep after he thought it was in park. I agree that they should leave the shifters in the same configuration it has been for the last 50+ years. No need to reinvent what works

Interesting that GM succeeded with their 3.0 diesel but Nissan failed?

Until solid state batteries become available such a diesel is the best engine for a large un-aerodynamic pickup truck.

That transmission issue is so aggravating. I'm actually shocked that one government or another hasn't chimed in on the safety aspect of those dippy interfaces. Change for change sakes is stupid. The problem with that truck overall is that it'll be another $100K wonder horse that no one can afford. The diesel is nice, but let's have it in a $40k p/u!

Diesel looks awesome but I’d probably would go with Ford F150 with new tail gate.

What's the price of diesel ⛽ fuel in CA? Must be pushing $6/gallon. Diesel engine was good when prices were about $2/ gallon. Now it doesn't make sense to buy diesel engine.

The shifter is not rocket science. It’s very simple and comfortable to use actually.
