The University of St. Thomas Houston’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (2nd Degree) program’s Learning Center North is where students experience the hands-on portion of their second-degree BSN education and work to hone their skills in a risk-free environment.

Our accelerated BSN skills labs mimic a real hospital setting and feature all the state-of-the-art medical equipment you’d expect to find in such an environment as well as realistic medical manikins.
Combined with the nursing theory knowledge and foundational skills learned in the online portion of our ABSN program, you’ll use this facility to master basic nursing skills such as:
• Holistic head-to-toe assessment
• Nasogastric (NG) tube insertion
• Blood pressure and heart rate monitoring
• Wound care
The accelerated nursing program in Houston will put your nursing skills to the test during nursing simulation labs. These labs focus on creating realistic patient care scenarios that foster critical thinking, collaboration and problem-solving skills all in a risk-free environment.
Here, students apply their skills and respond to high-pressure situations like what they would face as a working nurse, without the risk of harming an actual human patient.
Students will also role play, acting as a nurse, doctor, or family member, in order to obtain a full understanding of how to communicate effectively while applying critical thinking skills to patient care.
