  • Nursing admission is an important part of your journey at the University of St. Thomas Houston’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program. It is important to know that through this process, you will have support the entire time.
Your first step in your ABSN journey is getting in contact with an admissions advisor. For Deneka, her counselor, Trudi, reached out while she was browsing the website.
“I was kind of thinking about it, but Trudi’s really the one who drew me in, and she wanted me to be part of the program,” Deneka says.
An advisor contacting you does not ensure eligibility for the program, but you can rest assured that they will be with you throughout the process of gaining admissibility. Wherever you are in your educational journey, your advisor will help apply that to nursing.
“We’ll look at (prospective students’) transcripts. We will see where they are with their eligibility. If they’re not at that point to be eligible right away, we work with them through the whole process,” Trudi says.
Once you are eligible to apply for the ABSN program, your advisor will assist you in applying to the program. They will get to know you, your strengths, and weaknesses. This will help you have the highest chance of being accepted into the program.
“We want to learn more about the student. What have they done? What’s been their experience and then why nursing?” Trudi says.
Once you are in the program, your admissions advisor will continue to call for a few days to ensure a seamless transition from admissions to academic advising. This way, you won’t be alone for a single step of the process. Advisors at UST strive to help you feel as supported as possible during the entirety of the admissions process.
Now that you have learned more about the nursing admission process, it’s time to take the first step. Reach out to an admissions advisor who will help you: absn.stthom.edu/contact/ .
