Bumby killed Alice's family. He was obsessed with Lizzie (Alice's sister) and snuck into her house and raped her. When the queen said "That noise wasn't Lizzie talking in her sleep" she meant when Bumby was raping her. To cover up the crime, Bumby started the fire. He also kept Lizzie's bedroom key, which is the Chapter 6 key.
I love the ending of this game! There are 4 main ways to interpret it according to the AM's Alice Wiki, but I interpreted it a bit differently. I think Alice's control over Wonderland means she can now open the link to it in reality & let someone else see it at her will. So Bumby did see her as THE Alice, b/c I don't think he'd tremble in fear from just her glare of rage. Afterwords, she can now blend both worlds in her perspective into a balanced match between both worlds. That's my view ^_^
*Sure, I think so as well cause there's even a segment of gameplay where you can walk as Bloody Alice with her blue-white clothes covered in blood in her real world, if I'm correct.*
BEST ENDING EVER! I just love how she like turns around and bumby is all like 'o my god' because like he sees it (the real alice) Then I just loved watching the prick get kicked in front of the train (GREAT TIMING)
Actually it's a shock reaction the same as "My God" which Alice used "My Lizzie" instead. The Queen is actually young Alice as said so by the artbook and Mcgee himself.
I took it as she let herself go from reality and is permanently in Wonderland to the point that the two worlds have bled into one another. Cheshire at the end says "we can't go home again", which could suggest she's stuck in whatever state she's in while in Wonderland. I believe her waking up in the asylum suggests that that's where her body is being kept (in an asylum), but her mind is not.
Your theory is correct. Alice mistook Bumby as a Centaur, because of the glowing eyes and the shadows. It imprinted into her mind and that's how she justified later what she saw that night.
Bumby really did all that Or is she imagining him Doing all that & its weird How bumby got into Their house & nobody Heard anything?? it makes no sense.
Well I may have done too far (since it was from my frustrations) but I thought that Mcgee and the game (actually if you payed attention to the game very carefully enough) made it actually quite clear that the Queen is Alice's Psyche which in the first game she was Alice's self-guilt and the second game she represents Alice's childhood.
You forgot that centaurs also symbollized his lust, against Lizzie. He thinks that Lizzie is a tsundere and her mocks is actually a yes, that psycho...
@RashekeeG1 No. I noticed it as well. The Alice in the game is so cynical of Hatter and some of the others, that at times she doesn't seem to have ever liked them. I think that look of guilt was her realizing that they were her friends, and it was her madness that warped them. Plus, even in their warped minds, they didn't forget that they did care about her and were hurt by it ("I tried to forget what you did, but I can't"). Afterwards, I think she'll be more kind to everyone. :)
According to Mcgee from the forums "Londerland is a visual and symbolic representation of Alice's merging of the psychological and real world. In the first game Alice overcame her internal demons to master her mental space."
I always thought she was the embodiment of Alice's ignorance to the abuse of the children and her sister, which explains the child body. Either way in-game it's perfectly understandable why she'd be seen as Lizzie, because it's not all that obvious and a lot of it hints to it being her even though the book blatantly says otherwise. I thought it was Lizzie until I saw the art. No need to be a jerk and go calling people "ignorant" just because they haven't seen all the memorabilia.
Thank heavens( no pun intended) that Alice has finally healed from her trauma since the Fire. I was indeed worried because McGee's series had a wiki and it had several interpretations of the ending, some of them pretty tragic and even sinister.
Alice is by far on of my favorite video game characters! She is by far the most unbreakable and relentless ones I've ever met, and the strongest after dealing with everything she's been through in life. I hope she's in a third game!
What I find funny is that the thing( train) that was destroying wonderland(also Alice) was the one thing that killed the doc in the end. This game is pure amazing sauce on a gold plate being eaten with silver spoons and with a nice cup of tea.
Alright, just to start a debate. American Mcgee's Alice, or Madness Returns? Personally I like MR because the gameplay is simply fantastic. However, American Mcgee's was just sooooo CREEEEPYYY.
Well another thing, Victorians spoke rather weird or rather poetic/melodramatic/sophisticated back in those times which may not make sense to modern ears. Although this might be a stereotype of course it was a different time back then.
I love watching these clips as I watch them like a movie too. I really don't see why they couldn't make a movie out of this. >.< Would be great!~ Oh, well, just watching the clips from the game is still great.
I'm so sad... This game has some truly great potentials: powerful voice acting; potent writing; an intriguing, non cookie-cutter, mindf**k story (highly surprising for a hack and slash); immersive atmosphere and art design; and IMO one of the most climactic build-up for final boss fight ever. The ending is also terrifically done. All these potentials were almost wasted due to rushed release and lack of evolving gameplay. Here's hoping we'll get to see Alice 3 in the future.
I guess that may be linked to the Greek myth about the Centuars getting drunk and carrying off the bride during a wedding. (The part animal, part human morphology has been used as a metaphor for the struggle against the more basic, animalistic desires. Yes, such as lust.)
" In the second game she uses that power to defeat a real-world threat to her physical and mental self. In effect, by the end of Madness Returns, Alice has become a sort of "super hero" - able to blur the boundary between imagination and reality. This sort of thematic concept is present in a lot of hero tales. And it's echoed in the alchemy symbols found throughout the game."
@Iostars I agree with you. I felt so many gaps while playing, and I thought that they could've done so much better with the gameplay. It's a wonderful setup for sure, but the execution was a bit rushed.
