Theatre kids. They get the job done.
i know you didnt just take something meant to empower immigrants and used in on a bunch of white theatre kids... i know that didn't jus happen
@@kkemp6243 Did you even watch the video?
@@kkemp6243 Theyre just referencing a part of the video, making a joke in the comment section of a video hurts nobody
@@kkemp6243 Considering the line was written by a theatre kid.....for theatre kids.... your complaint is unwarranted. This video specifically highlights people of color and the black lives matter movement. I think we should celebrate that instead of generalizing the group in this video as "white theatre kids" and being upset someone commented something from the theatre world.
@@jazy108 I mean they're basically all white so they said no lies lmfaooo
You know what UA-cam algorithm, this was a good suggestion.
I got one two years ago, have been here ever since :)
honest, I don't even go to this school and I watched all 17 min.

So true

I literally have no plans of applying here but here I am dying at "we have a lot of gay kids"
I was looking for this comment haha.
Why do people feel the need to announce it? We can pretty much tell who the gay ones are.
@@blakemcwilliams9028 a lot of people are VERY uncomfortable talking about it, so simply mentioning that can make people feel more welcomed/relaxed in the environment. like yeah i feel like i can usually tell when people are gay but there's also a lot of people who wont assume sexuality based on behavior or looks.
hope this explained a bit (sorry if your question was rhetorical) :)
A lot of people are uncomfortable admitting they're a straight white male but here i am.
@@shanehammer uh i mean not really? i don't know if you're being sarcastic or not(hard to tell in the youtube comment section) but people have never been discriminated against or harassed and assaulted for being straight and white. btw im also a straight white person

Aaaaand weeping. I cannot imagine the planning and time spent putting this together. I am so truly inspired by y'all. The future looks bright with all of you entering the industry. Can't wait to meet you all when this is over!
Andrew Keenan-Bolger YOU’RE HERE YOU’RE HEEEERREE!
Yea I’m sitting here calculating the labor hours and I can’t seem to imagine how anyone could think this was a good use of resources. And I’m very pro-art. This, however is *not* art. It’s absolute trash. I hope y’all catch the rona thanks for making this video and documenting what tuition dollars are spent on
Jack Straw *CCM has entered the chat*
Andrew Keenan-Bolger *puts down magnifying glass, smugly* CCM getting paid by Carnegie to cause consternation cos they’re too smart to get their hands dirty themselves
@@jackstraw262 This was entirely student produced- no tuition dollars spent in the making of this video. All CDC safety guidelines were followed, and the seniors came together in the middle of a pandemic to make something special for the incoming freshmen. Clearly based on the comments it is having a profound impact on many people outside of the program as well. You can stay mad but please don't sully the comment section with any more of your nonsense!
I have no idea why this was recommended to me but I'm here for it

Amazing job, Wolverines! You're gonna do great stuff in the world.
Well hello James 👋 didnt expect to see you here
Not where I would expect to see you but ok
woah are u a theater kid?
Dead meat!!
this is an unexpected crossover, did you go to UMich?
I know that there is a deep complex theater culture behind this. But I gotta say as a complete non-theater person who this was randomly recommended to: 😳
I don’t know what I just watched but they’re all obviously deeply talented and love what they are doing.
So hell yeah theater geeks!
whoever re-wrote all the lyrics to these well known melodies gets my vote of approval!! You've all done a wonderful job on this video!
it was all done entirely by these students
a kick-ass, incredibly diverse MT21 entrance AND I get to throw money at BLM?! my heart, my heart my heeeeeart!! you kids are gonna change the world.
Future Starkids!
Adi Lewis I had to search so far to find a starkid comment 😂
WOOOO I FOUND THE STARKIDS

@Lauren Heller I do this absolutely everywhere
Yes!
Do I want to study musical theatre? No. Did I just watch this entire thing twice? Absolutely.
Every year, I look forward to this. As much as I love the MT Entrance as a live performance, I really enjoyed this "covid-19/editted film" version. The fact that y'all gave BIPOC representation/voice in this senior entrance speaks volumes. Good luck class of 2021!

+Ethan Wong Congratulations on making it to senior year! I'm glad for your sake you're a senior this year, not last year (when pretty much nobody was being cast because of the shut-down plus all the uncertainty). That said, if you're coming to NYC after graduation, the good news is - for now, anyway - rental prices in the city & in nearby fun places (like Hoboken) are way down.
when you’re finally watching this as a freshman at umich 🥰
That’s so cool!!
I’m a dental student at UofM and actually got to see some of this being filmed! I look forward to this video every year, and i love the new format. Y’all said “thanks covid we’re gonna make an entrance like no one has seen before”
This deserves to be its own broadway show, it was *chef’s kiss*
i don’t think we’re taking enough about the writing of this?
Yes it’s great!!
The Hamilton and Chorus Line parts though, those were sheer brilliance!
@@11TaMaR11 YES i watched this about a thousand times like i watch them all every year and i had never listened to a chorus line before and then recently i listened to it and all i could hear was HELLO NORTH HELLO BURSLEY
"Am I really still on mute??"
That line... is a work of genious!! Greetings from Mexico... that was amazing!
My brand new Kindergartener just asked when she will be a UMich MT Senior, lol. Obviously it is way too early to plan for college in our home, but I’m glad she’s got artists like you all to look up to for now.
I don't even go to U Mich but watching the senior entrance has been a yearly tradition of mine since 2017. I found this page and discovered MT during a tough time in life and this was a ray of hope. I'm glad that despite all circumstances, we can all get together and celebrate MT 21's hard work. Go Blue!
this is the best senior enterance yet no cap
i think my fav to watch is either this or mt19 but mt20 lives in my head rent free i can never stop singing it
Had to come back after seeing this year's entrance - I always enjoy watching the entrance that this year's seniors watched. While the circumstances behind this suck, I do appreciate that this video lets us see some of the places they sing about like Bursley and Kerrytown.
Theatre will survive and thrive this pandemic. After everything that has happened to theatre during this pandemic, I have hope for the future of Braodway and theatre after watching this.
Yep it will be so much better without all those old white racist people buying those $200 tickets and clogging up all the theatres
@@rickdalesandro550 yeah maybe that sounds nice until you consider how that affects the actors. Maybe tickets will be cheaper but unions will be in shambles and actors won't receive benefits, retirement, or guaranteed solid pay.
sitting here crying as a senior in HS who just realized she needs to start her UMich MT application.... oh no
Watching this reminded me how much I’d love to go into SMTD but I would never be able to do MT there...the dancing is just too amazing
Good luck! I have to start my Umich engineering application. Hope we will see each other there? Haha. And yeah when it said class of 21 I forgot we were seniors this year ouch the whiplash.
thotithehotti Right...completely forgot about being a senior oof
Nat Correa ik every time I’m reminded it’s just,,, pain😔
Same here! I seriously don’t know if I can do this after seeing all the talent in this video
I was talking to my friend today about how the previous one's music was stuck in my head and how I was scared that they weren't going to be able to make one this year. I'm so excited!!!!
I’m 31 and British and I have school spirit for a college I did not attend lol. I miss high school performing
Dear MT21, even though I do not know you and have nothing to do with the SMTD at Michigan, this video has compelled me to write you something, for it has moved me. I discovered the other senior entrances a few days ago, and greatly enjoyed them. Having studied theatre myself (theatre making and education) in the Netherlands, and also still parttime studying musical theatre there, it fills me with feelings of nostalgia. Even though I do not get most of your inside jokes, they remind me of our own theatre department's inside jokes and it's always nice to revisit those memories of my college years.
But your senior entrance is, of course, something else completely. It is amazing to see what you have accomplished in spite of everything that's going on. The singing, sound-mix and lip-sync is on point, the choreography and filmography is amazing, and what touches me most is your fighting spirit. Even though it's a lip-synced performance, because you had no choice, it still gets the message across. And what a message it is! You chose to not only focus on funny musical theatre jokes or your own heart-warming journeys (luckily, you also had plenty of that going on), but used your senior entrance to try and make the world a better place. And even though I do not know any of you, I have faith that you are a lovely bunch of people that are not only amazing artists, but will also do some good in the world. Keep being amazing, and err...go Blue! (Am I saying that right?)
P.S.: I laughed very hard at the 'Zoom University' part, man, that one hit home, so relatable!
Love from the Netherlands,
Chris
You would have to be an embittered hater and overall terrible person not to love this. These kids are amazing. So much talent and so much joy!
Love the voice of the girl with the “Defying Patriarchy” title. “Having Some Thoughts” also has a really clear tone that sounds great.
These are our freshmen from the MT18 video! I'm so happy they got their senior entrance moment and that we get to watch it. I'm so excited! The yearly senior entrance videos have become a tradition!
As a high school choir director from Texas, my heart goes out to everyone of you. I know this isn’t the senior year you hoped for, and I wish there was a way to give you everything you deserve, but I know that you will embrace what you have in from of you, and make it the best year you can. This video was amazing! I’m so blown away by your talent, and creativity. I send each of you best hopes and wishes for amazing careers to come.
Not sure how this showed up in my suggestions, but I’m glad it did. What a GD delight this was. Congratulations, all! Here’s to the future arts makers, changers, and leaders.
So proud of this group and all the hard work it took to put this together. Recording one at a time in a garage! Shout out to the editing and filming individuals as well. Amazing piece of work. It looks like there was an entire team out there. A piece of work to be so proud of! MT ‘21 the future is bright.
These guys did a really good job. And Erica being Camp-Half Blood is SO perfect.
Omg tears. It's been a few years (like 31 of them) since I've been on campus. It's fantastic to see such talented, fabulous kids there. Have a great year - it will certainly be memorable!
YO MEAN TO TELL ME IF I ENTER THIS COLLEGE EVERYDAY WILL BE LIKE GLEE, HSM OR PITCH PERFECT?
DARREN CRISS WHO WAS IN GLEE WENT TO THIS COLLEGE
+Marlo Félix. Yes! It will be just like those shows! Except, when you graduate instead of being a rich, successful TV star or movie star, you'll be unemployed PLUS if you're from out of state you'll have paid (or you'll OWE) JUST $274,000, assuming you graduated in just 4 years!
And that's assuming they don't raise prices while you're there... but every year they do raise prices!
By contrast, Michigan residents will only spend $130,000 for the same 4-year degree.. assuming they don't raise prices. These numbers are for kids who just started school this semester.
Darren Criss was from out of state but his dad is super-rich so Darren easily paid those bills before he made his own $$$$.
Yes. yes. Darren Criss the starkid
@@Summer-tz4to REALLY??? COOOOL

I almost never comment on videos but oh my GOD. I watch all of these and have seen what feels like a ton over the years, but this was by FAR my favorite. The lyrics, the message, choreo, your VOICES. Y’all are amazing
After 2 years it’s nice to know what the professors look nice. Thank you
im a first year at OSU (i know, i know) AND there is a certain grain of awe and jealousy i feel watching these every year. i wish this could be me!!! you did such a beautiful job with the lemons you've been given. thank you so much for your art
The musical theatre program at this school looks amazing and top notch.
I’m an Ecuadorian man who’s got nothing to do with Michigan but after this, I would die for Michigan musical theater
every single senior entrance i watch makes me dream, drive, and work towards Michigan even more 💙
truly
100 likes and it hasn’t even STARTED yet. So many brilliant people in this class. Love you MT21!!!! Break legs! 🔥
I’ve watched these as they came out every year since 2019 and now I’m a senior in high school about to begin the college audition process with my dream school being UMich. I’m manifesting that I’ll be one of the freshmen next year’s iteration will be directed at. It’s everything I’ve been working toward and I know I’ll get it.
GOOD LUCK

After watching this again...and again... still in awe each time. I will keep returning to this video for inspiration.
Every. Year. You folks kill it EVERY YEAR. SO impressed with Michigan MT. Wow.
I'm not even close to being in college. I live far from Michigan. I'm not sure why I'm watching this. BUT U KNOW Y'ALL ATE AND LEFT NO CRUMBS!!
I was not expecting six when this got recommended to me
this made me so emotional. that last song was extremely impactful. very good work, all! I am inspired to continue my work and education as an artist! thank you all so much--this is what art is meant to do: change the world.
I'm 25 in the UK have already done uni and this hit me hard, the random people and things they thank throughout, I don't know them but there were people like that at my uni, the 7/11 guy you thanked was adorable because when I was in uni there was a sandwich shop that we would all go to every day for lunch, literally the best freaking sandwiches and that sandwich lady saw alot of us at our best and our worst and she would talk to all of us, and help us out if we were low on cash that day or would give us extra filling and toppings for free. Unsung heroes man
The fact that this still exists this year brings me unparalleled joy
So one of these ended up in my suggestions thanks to the algorithm. I've watched about 4-5 now. They've all been great but this one is the first one that brought me to tears multiple times. This was PHENOMENAL. You all did an amazing job. And to think that you planned, practiced, and pulled this off in the middle of the flustercluck that was 2021 makes it even more incredible. I cannot WAIT to see what this group will go on to do in the future! This was an amazing production and you are ALL incredibly talented performers. Sincerely, a 38 year old former theater kid who just laughed and cried through this whole thing and *loved* ever freaking second of it.
What an extraordinary group of talented performers. Clearly a pandemic is not going to stop them. Bravo & Brava!
was this ..... better than the other years??? coming from a UK uni student I absolutely LOVED seeing the Michigan campus!!! AMAZING
Yes! Especially places we heard about in years past!
I'm here crying as if I know anyone on that video, it really helped seeing seniors be uplifting, from one senior(high school) to another, thank you for making the future sound promising instead of bleak.
My daughter said she might like in to studying MT in America particularly Michigan (we are from England) and I thought what a bizarre choice... this just popped up on my feed and NOW I get it. Well done guys that was amazing!
This is outstanding. I would hire every one of these kids. They are the credit to the industry and demonstrate WHY we need the arts in ALL of our schools. An inspiration - a gem of a company; they are sublime. Mark - British Actors Equity since 1992.
Hey MT21, I have zero connection to Michigan, but this randomly popped into my feed and I am so glad I watched. You all are amazing! I hope you have a wonderful senior year!
As a former college thespian.... BRAVO!! Break legs and a few hearts! Go MT21!
i have never once thought about university of michigan musical theatre but tell me why i’m crying so much after watching this huh?
Great job to everyone involved in this. I didn't go to this school, I'm 38, and I live in Germany so I have no idea how this was suggested to me - but it brought back incredible memories of when I used to do MT when I was younger, so glad that it did. I imagine this pandemic must have been rough on your plans - but glad to see you were all able to put something like this together while keeping socially distanced. Incredible job.
i watch this to work out at the gym and go 4 miles easy- the motivation and inspiration is unparalleled. CHILLS
I'm a High School Theatre Arts teacher in NC, went to Tisch in NYC; class of 21 you made me CRY - going to share this with my students - I hope they'll find their place in a great Theatre Arts program too💜🎭🌈
I am so proud to be one of class 2020 of the University of Michigan. Thank you!
Well done! So many legends come out of the Michigan MT program. It's very cool to see the next batch of Broadway!
wow they should’ve used this for recruiting, i’m a stem major and the sheer love and optimism of this song still would’ve convinced me to go to michigan
truly beautiful!! When all the odds are stacked against you...what do you do?! RISE ABOVE like the true leaders and best. This was honestly the best senior entrance I've seen. Such incredible creativity in this video...the filming, choreography, lyrics, jokes. YESSS MT21, congrats to all involved!
This is really powerful. Congrats to MT21 for putting this together despite all of the challenges this year. It's a brilliant piece of work. 💛
Wonderful job MT 21. I’ve always wondered who does the lyrics, choreography and vocal arrangements for these Senior Entrances. And thanks to this year’s video, credit is finally given. The students! Step aside Randy Rainbow. You’ve got competition. ❤️ (Michigan grad 1992...who can’t sing or dance)
If you look in the descriptions of previous videos, you'll be able to see the creative teams of each entrance credited!
I am neither a musical theatre major, nor do I attend UMichigan, but I freaking love these videos. This one is truly amazing. Kuddos guys
defying all of the odds while looking and sounding this good ?!!? MT 21 you are nothing short of fascinating. I cannot wait to potentially share the stage with some of you geniuses.
The amount of talent in this one video has me second guessing all my life's choices.
I swear, every time I watch this it just gets better and better 😍 I’ve never wanted to move to the US and study MT more than I do right now! Amazing work, guys! Sitting here with goosebumps 🥰 I also loved this video as we were able to clearly see your incredible talents in dancing, singing, acting and in comedy but unlike other year you weren’t restricted for space and we could hear the amazing lyrics! Kicking goals, seniors!
explain why i'm fully sobbing watching this literally crying so many tears and i know none of these people or references i just love musical theater
Y’all have got to be kidding me!!! Even during a global pandemic, the tradition of watching this every year hasn’t faded away!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Congrats to the production and creative team!! The techs really shined in how much work you can see in this
That moment when I genuinely wish I went to this university, and that I feel connected to this school despite being in NZ. Well done guys! Great performance and storytelling!
Have a wonderful year. Very talented seniors. Great script.
Watched this for years, and this is my favorite by far. Production is amazing!
This was INCREDIBLE!!! The dancing! The lyrics! Everything!!!!
Standing socially distanced ovation. Can't wait until stages can open their doors to your talent.
I've watched this three times in a row! I get shivers each time... Beautiful! Our future is bright with young people like you! Thank you for sharing this beautiful short production! Encore!
So Glad you all your entrance! Im a hot mess of happy tears right now watching this! Cant wait to see each and every one of you slay the stage when this is all over.
I look forward to this every year... and it always tops the previous year! Great job!!!
Crying with joy and admiration for your collective brilliance. And the subtitles? Genius.
the way I look forward to their performance every year is saying something about me
This is actual ART
Edit: jeeze this dancing, this singing. Save a lil talent for the rest of us please
I don't go to Michigan and I'm not a musical theater major but I am still crying at this, y'all crushed it! Inspired and a little jealous lol
As soon as I heard that intro I knew this was gonna be a good video
This was so well done. You all made such great use of the space and made it feel so natural. It doesn't even feel like 6 ft was a requirement!
I’ve seen this at least 12 times and I keep coming back. Absolutely amazing job from everyone! Go blue 💙💛
That was so good!! My god, the enormous amount of work that went into that and the great production qualities, the editing and the quality of all the performances, and, and, and...everything about it. You all should be so proud. What a terrific advertisement for your university and its theatre arts department.
This was everything I didn't know I needed tonight. Recovering from wisdom teeth surgery and feeling like hell - This was such a random and wonderful surprise. You guys are amazing!!
