  • This will be Eric's second opportunity to share his Big Ideas through the TEDxKISJeju platform. As a high schooler who has been pursuing excellence in STEM, Eric has developed keen interest in the fields of gerontology and anti-aging science. Aging contributes greatly to collective human suffering, which becomes exacerbated by its general neglect in public discourse. Since the field of anti-aging continues to be nascent, awareness is key to generating support that can drive research and development in the fields of gerontology and epidemiology. Eric's talk intends to bring related issues and advancements to public attention, while recommending practical, research-based interventions that individuals can and should undertake to increase health span well into our Golden Years. Eric is a Junior at the Korea International School, Jeju Campus. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Wow! What an insightful young man -- I hope he goes into the field of healthy aging -- we'll all be better off if he does!

Thank you! Excellent talk....at 71, almost 72, I wanna keep trucking! Blessed that I don't have disabilities other than neglected body formation (laziness!). I rarely actually feel hunger (not even the "munchies")...that bit of burn can feel good when you need concentration...as in golf. I've yet to eat my wife's taco, made for my breakfast, and it is 5 PM. Stomach growls a bit (poor thing) but I'm not hungry.

How can aging be an "abnormality", when literally every person who ever lived aged.

Never pictured aging as a disease. Never differentiated between Healthspan and lifespan either. I don’t wanna spend the later half of my life reminiscing on what I am now. If society as a whole focused on increasing our health spans, I think the odds of us discovering or creating anti-aging properties and longer health spans are dramatically increased. Tbh tho, they’ll find remedies regardless. My fear is whether it’ll be a social norm. If there isn’t a large following or if the people aren’t demanding ways to extend their HEALTHSPANS, it may end up being something reserved for the more wealthy

If you look at an engineering "manual," a book of statistics compiled over many decades, you'll see aging is a disease. Let's say you make it to 95 years...your group of "95" ers is gonna lose about 70% to cancer in short order...then there's those other health problems like your heart runs outa gas.

Yes, I've known Asiatic folks who would retire at 65, but looked like they were only 40...and I had no idea until they announced retiring.

Intermittent fasting to kick in stem cells. This is very new in USA. At least in it's application.

@@teaandcoffeeM I work hard to convince my wife to attend the bar with me and sit with lovely people of all colors. For me, it's necessity! Ever since "open container" was enacted in Texas (the Fed: you'll get nothing of the $billions of gas tax returns (to the fricking State!? I paid that!) unless you ban open containers (and drive folks into bars! where they can meet hungry democrat lawyers who'll buy you the 17 oz German Heffe Weiss...good buds!)) Anyway, I found I love socializing! Working on my wife.
