    I agree with you, the MIOPS is not as consistent as the Splash Art Kit II. If I have a good setting, the shape changes every time or suddenly a crown appears. Fortunately I can now work with both and see which one I like best. I always enjoy watching your video tutorials.

    Hi Adam I to have the Miops splash art kit and like you have noticed a fair amount of inconsistency in the drops, I’m going to try using those blocks of jelly that can be found in supermarkets, also I will try using a couple of drops of soap in the water as that should help to break the surface tension of the water and aid it’s exit from the dropper, what could go wrong 🤔 oh yeah get a foam mushroom . very nice. just purchased pluto trigger system. do you use a radio transmitter on camera to drive speedlites and pluto connected to camera with a cable ? many people seem to say it makes synchro and repetitivity difficult due to the processing time of the camera (strange, just a trigger) and it is better to connect pluto to flash with a wire or xpro transmitter and point pluto IR transmitter to the camera set to 1-2 sec. so the drive of the flash is very fast. what do you think ? instead of xanthan gum, my shop advises Guar. do you know it ?

First time to use the R5 with the Miops and after 2 days and trying every setting I could think of I cannot make it trigger the shutter (all else works but the shutter will not fire). I tried it on my Hassie X1D II and managed to make it work (but don't have macro lens)....Have you tried the Miops on the R5? Is there some setting I'm might be forgetting about? @debbiemowry2591 4 роки тому

      Thank you Adam for the video. While it may not be as good as the SplashArt it appears to be the only option for Fujifilm shooters. I got a response back when I asked via eBay if the X-T3 is supported. The person said they had timing issues so it is not compatible. It saved me some money as after researching I found the shutter trigger cable is the same for the Canon EOS R and FujiFilm X-T3 is the same and I was getting ready to order. I'm guessing that means the MIOPS Splash while not as accurate a dripper (according to your testing) the app is probably better than the box controller of the SplashArt kit.

    The MIOPS unit is on special at the moment for USD99 (Black Friday Sale). The SplashArt unit is approx USD192 (GBP149). So perhaps your getting a better metal unit and control box from SplashArt comes for the additional USD93. Pricing is approx and doesn't include shipping. Adam does briefly mention that MIOPS is cheap but just wanted put some numbers to it.

    What I didn't get was how you were tripping the camera shutter at the right time. Is that a function of a delay set from when the drop is released and controlled by the app? Does splash 2 come with its own app or does the app you used work for both setups?

    • @Firstmanphotography
      @Firstmanphotography  4 роки тому

      Bluetooth connects to the Miops. MIOPS connects to the camera via the orange wire and fires the camera depending on the delay you set. Camera fires the flashes. The SplashArt 2 doesn’t require a phone. It’s a separate unit that essentially does the same thing........doesn’t work with as many cameras though.

      I got it and I'm happy witht it. It has a certain "random" factor to it. I dial it in and am nearly there and then I lose everything and never get that amazing drop back. Might be my setup aswell. Not sure but I LOVE the Pluto trigger alone for the versatility it allows you to have. Wireless shutter, Bulb and timelapse modes if your camera doesn't have them.

      Drop collisions are possible without an electronic dropper but it's extremely difficult and requires a lot of patience, perseverance and luck. Getting a fairly quick drop rate going out of a plastic bag is the key. Add more water to the bag to increase pressure and therefore speed up the rate of drops.

    Hi, I'm trying to do water drop photography and I have the problem of focusing that, despite focusing on the object at the point where the drop falls, the shots are all out of focus or not in focus despite closing the aperture to f / 22 (time 1/320 sec, ISO from 100 to 800). Also, I always see the edge of the container in the shots despite the water being level. Do you have any suggestions? How far should the reflex stand from the point of impact? Thanks bye

    • @Firstmanphotography
      @Firstmanphotography  2 роки тому +1

      just raise the tripod a touch to avoid seeing the edge. Its likely the lack of sharpness is due to motion rather than focusing……although be sure to use a pencil and focus where the drop will be, not on the surface of the water. most importantly it’s not the shutter speed that freezes the action, its the flash. use on 1/32 or 1/64 power (gives a quicker burst) with shutter speed set to the flash sync speed of your camera (1/200 in my case). I use f11 mostly, sometimes f16. Use iso to control the exposure.

      Yes, and you have also take into account that water drops are photograohed to death already between 2007 and 2008. Today nobody wants to see water/milk/liquid drops. Maybe in 10 years it's time for the big reissue of "we all photograph water drops in the same way with the same strobes and the same background" again.

      It is a very technical exercise but I don’t feel yet that I have got close to perfecting it. I’ve got lucky a few times but I think there’s more to discover. It’s also fun.

      @@Firstmanphotography Something I'd find really useful is a video on finding inspiration in, or adapting to, very uninspiring locations. For instance I live near the beach but it's very flat terrain, ditto the west coast of France where I often holiday. These scenes still give me great pleasure, and are dear to my heart, but photographically I always end up with a flat horizon, and little by way of features. Maybe long exposure and a tripod is the answer.
