  • We just replaced our garage doors and openers and the Car2U transmitter that came stock in my 2013 Ford Raptor sun visor is not compatible. I did a little research for my options and found out that you can purchase a HomeLink transmitter from Ebay for around $30. I purchased and in less than an hour I had it replaced. Works perfectly for all three garage doors.

    I would have never attempted to repair my broken HOMELINK in my visor on my 2013 Explorer, without watching your video. My HOMELINK light and my mirror light were not working, so I took apart the sun visor like you showed. Traced the problem to a severed power wire, which I was able to splice back together. Apparently the extending and retracting of the sunvisor many times , severed one of the wires. Thanks to your video everything works again now!

    I was able to muscle the old remote out of the visor on my 2013 F150 through the button opening. The replacement was not as deep/long but did seem to lock in place side to side. Thinking your method might be better if you want to really get at it. I took the risk since I didn't want to do all the extra work. Nice video, it gave me the courage to try it myself.

      Glad it worked out for you - I did this a long time ago and still working perfectly. Thanks for the comment!

    This was so helpful. I swapped out the Car2U for the homelink per your instructions. The only think I did different was there are tabs on the visor and I opened those up and slid the replacement between the clam shell opening into place and it snapped right in. I didn't sew it up either and tucked everything back into place.

    I was ready to do the same as my garage door opener was not compatible with the CAR2U system on my 2012 F150 Crew Cab. I found a faster and easier solution. Bought a used Visor out of a 2014 F150 that comes with the Homelink for $65 on Ebay and sold my 2012 Visor on Ebay for $50.. Total cost $15 and 5 minutes to swap out Visors.. The 2014 Visor fits perfectly ob 2010 to 2013 F150's.

    I watched this just for the music.
    Seriously though, that Homelink module can be found in many Chrysler cars. I get them from a Pick a Part yard for cheap.

    Very helpful. I have a 2013 F150 with the Lear Car2U that's nor compatible with my garage doors openers and gate opener. The repeater works fine with the doors but the gate opener is too far away so I'm trying to change mine as well.

      You're right. Finished mine up tonight and it looks fine. I did have a problem getting the old Lear Car2u out and I cut the tab off the rear of the Home Link but other than that pretty smooth.

    Thanks for the video👍🏽. Can I ask you how you removed the three-button from the body of the Homelink unit? I know you said it snaps on and off but I’m nervous about breaking the tabs. Did you have to pry the tabs to get it off or did you just pull on it until it popped off? Thanks!

    • @AirstreamNerds
      @AirstreamNerds  6 років тому +1

      I just pulled up until it snapped off...you can see the snaps/hooks at the 3:47 mark of the video...it did not take much pressure for them to release but you could always try to slide a small screwdriver into the ends to push on the hooks if you are worried. Thanks for the question.

      Airstream Nerds Awesome! It felt like it might break when I tried, but I’ll try a little harder👍🏽. Thank you for the reply..much appreciated.

    Thanks for taking the time to make the video. Do you have any way of knowing what make of vehicle was the donor for the unit you bought on EBay? I have a different application for a custom remote installation in my wife's car but I want to make certain I find the right brand of remote. I need to assure the frequency compatability with my new Craftsman Belt drive garage door opener.

    • @AirstreamNerds
      @AirstreamNerds  7 років тому

      I have no idea regarding vehicle it came out of. I just wanted to make sure the remote was homelink - for this application what type of car did not matter. I am fairly certain that if the Craftsman you have is Homelink compatible you can use similar thinking as I did. Good Luck!

    I'm good sewing...after cutting the side to get the homelink box you could sew a flap and a piece of velcro so you never have to cut the visor ever again!!!..lol

    • @AirstreamNerds
      @AirstreamNerds  4 роки тому

      Your idea is great but really don't cut the visor - just the seam. And the visor itself clamps the seam back together without any issues. Still can't tell that anything ever happened was done to it! Thanks for the comment.
