A really nice looking mod but looks really flimsy and delicate almost, I would recommend keeping the ball joint of the original rods and just plastic welding/melting both ends of each original rod together so it has a stronger bond, either that or just filament printing some custom rods any way to save old parts but I understand doing this when you might not have a printer
Thanks. Early last year i did a "Prototype" that actually uses this technic and It ran like butter. It is the one seen in 0:50 And Just like i mentioned in the video, that option is quite limited. I would need Double the amount of Tomy Rods If i wanted to add It to every one of my engines Which i don't. And i want all of them to have the same treatment. Honestly, i'm more fond of the version i choosed to work With. Probrably because thats more or less the way side rods are put in Model trains and Real life engines. Also i'm looking foward to make Thomas Adaptations. These stories where the rods of the Engine got removed/broken Will be quite easier to re-enact And yes, i don't have a printer and got no interest in printed parts anyway. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Not With these big ones. At least not in this chassis; Id have to build a whole New piece. But i intend to do something else for my Thomas when he get to appear in my series
@@tomyoldiron6715 ok but why do they jump in the curve and switches also im buying edward in my bday but my bday is dec 2 its so far away and i don't know if its a scam on ebay or not
Yeah, i tried that. They're too big and wont even fit in place... Same case for the tender engines. The only Engines to not suffer for this are Percy and Edward
I chopped the motor, leaving only the parts that Allow the Wheels to spin and i simply cut a door for the cab. Then i glued a carboard piece inside so that figures can stand in.
@@tomyoldiron6715 funny. Once attempted to do this with my old worn out henry. It turned out to be a failure, but it's mainly because I used wood glue, and ran out of superglue :b Might try again once the new tutorial is out
Cool! Also I'm trying to build a Trackmaster 2 Oliver so if you had any tips and tricks on how to make the side rod move that'd be greatly appreciated! Just like regular side rods not realistic
Thanks! Mm. All i have in mind is the Original TOMY Oliver´s Chassis with a Proper Body lol Like the one made by ADuckProductions Pls Forgive the lateness of my reply haha don´t even know if you already made your Oliver Model by now
Nice, but just to remind you those engines might jump in switches due to having a back wheel on the front
I've made a video on how to fix the jumping issues on these engines while running on the points: ua-cam.com/video/naIwlSTC0SE/v-deo.html
You can fix that with a normal front wheel but you have to make a hole
@@metal_wheelsYou privated the video 🤦
@@Gameboy_1992 Totally by accident, sorry mate. Fixed it now.
Out of all the modifications on Tomy engines I've seen this one is probably the best one.
This dude literally gave a tank engine the luxury of having RTX side rods
I’ve wanted to do this for so long, and this man has done it!!!

Well done, my friend Sonicthesuper 723 would love to see this!
That looks absolutely incredible! Amazing job!

Yes

OMG I'm jealous about ur custom side rod because I subscribe ur channel xD
Keep up with the great work 💯👍
Yes i Will ;D
Hello, what do you use instead of the motor where the rear wheel is, or more precisely, how does it hold? Please answer‼️‼️‼️
Its half of the motor, i cut it down 👍
But if yours is working well, dont do it
Rods looks beautiful.
One word, Fantastic.😃❤👍
Do you think you can add the third wheel? You know the one in between?
Not With these big ones.
At least not in this chassis; Id have to build a whole New piece.
But i intend to do something else for my Thomas when he get to appear in my series
You could use spare edward parts for maybe
@@tomyoldiron6715ok what about a motor?
I dont want for mine.
@@tomyoldiron6715would a motor work for Thomas with this mod?
So nice. Such a masterpiece bro👏
idk it just look satisfying to see it moves😫🙏😀
bro i really love this man!
I've got an question about the cab, how did you make it? When i take the motor out the wheels jump up inside the cab.
I actually cut up half of the motor. It was beyond repair anyway
@tomyoldiron6715 Oh, well that explains it
Thank you so much! I don’t know if I have the tools, but could you use cardboard?
You´re quite welcome!
And Certainly, Cardboard, Plastic, Wire... Pretty much Everything should do.
@@tomyoldiron6715 the only plarail/tomy stuff I have are Spencer and Toby, so I might do a test with wr or other brands
Sounds good. Good Luck!
First of all awsome and we’re the heck do you get the season 1 whistle and sound effects its perfect I love it
Thanks! Look for Season 1 instrumentals by GWR Oliver
Ok
Amazing I wish they did this with the toys
Very good! Good job!
Are you ever gonna make Annie and clarabel for Thomas to pull ? And will they be rws ore tvs?
When the time comes yes.
They Will be Rws like
@@tomyoldiron6715 ok thanks
Aight time to do this custom but with a little modification
I have like four extra Thomas but they’re in good condition so I might do this once I get one in a mediocre condition.
Cool!
But please watch this video and its pinned comment for precaución: ua-cam.com/video/mQlyTuEYmxg/v-deo.html
I think I will make wooden railway Thomas with side rods
what actually happens if you used pins instead of homemade rods? like cutting the circle thing then measure it
It would still work. My Prototype Side Rods worked in a similar way. I just like the one i made better

Coooool!
I have a tomy Gordon so should I make the valve or the side rods?
It's up to you!
I would do the Valve gear. But It is possible to put the rods
But, for side rods... it´ll most likely have issues running in bends and switches...
Do you have Gordon, James and the other steam engines? Can you do with them please?
Only have James, and I'll do for him
I may need another driving wheel in the middle, just for the novelty of it
I tried to do this. Didn´t fit.
@@tomyoldiron6715 Maybe try to modify the chassis? if not, nows your chance to be a big shot!
yeah. I could definely do it. But i´m willing to make a different thomas for future purposes.
Maybe i´ll do it just to brag on a video. Maybe.
I dont know how to take off the front wheel for my trackmaster 2..
Nice job
Can you do this with the newer Trackmaster 2 fyi not the reboot
I don't know. I don't own any Trackmaster 2's
could you do one o henrys siderods?
Yes. I just wrote that in the description.

I have a tip, why not use a back wheel in the middle too (for the engines that need it). if there's a reason why not, I'd love to know why
Yeah, i tried that. They're too big and wont even fit in place... Same case for the tender engines. The only Engines to not suffer for this are Percy and Edward
What about the classic front wheel? You can always change the shift of where the back wheels could be I think
Amazon work! Now make the middle wheel move!
Can this work on old trackmaster model’s?
I Guess so 👍 Don't see much difference between this and Tomy anyway.
why don't they make them like this, oh wait. "Goes over to bachmann and hornby"
Well that is far more accurate, what does it ever jam up?
Yeah it does jam, but it´s a rather minor inconvenience in my case
Amazing
Very good
I've been having the same idea for a long time. I've never seen it done tho
How did u make the cab empty
I chopped the motor, leaving only the parts that Allow the Wheels to spin and i simply cut a door for the cab.

I can make him motorized anytime.
This reminds me of Bachmann
