My father had ALS. He was officially diagnosed in 2003. He was a highly respected school superintendent, ran five miles a day, lifted, and did tae kwon do. He had four children and a loving wife, my mother, who to this day is the strongest women i know. This, to me is one of, if not THE most horrible disease out there. He passed away on May 29, 2008 and he donated his spinal cord and brain to the foundation for research in hopes of finding a cure. Love all with ALS and hope for a cure.. soon.

Damn. I spent a couple months fearing I had ALS (I have BFS). Much sympathy to these folks.

If he is still alive, go to him, love him, forgive him. Heal yourself while you heal him.

My husband passed away from ALS in March of 2014. (I love & miss you my precious sweetheart. ) He wanted his body to be donated for ALS research. But was told that was not possible because he had ALS. But I see that a previous posters dad donated his brain & spinal cord. So what's the deal?? My husband made this request to his MDA doctor and his regular medical doctor, and got the same answer from both.

I'm so sorry we didn't reply to this in a timely manner. I hope you were able to reach out to someone at your local chapter directly at that time.
Donations of this type are really dependent upon the research programs readily available in your area. I do know of one person with ALS who was able to have their body donated for research, it had to be arranged quite a bit in advance.

My father has ALS. He's all the way in Georgia and I'm up here in PA. I don't know anymore. I rarely talk to him because he was abusive, but I STILL love him wtih all my heart. He was diagnosed over a year ago and started showing signs almost 2 years ago. Please I need someone to give me advice. Do I call him? Do I make amends? What do I do:?
