Feeling a tad bit sad for the last remaining pig...all alone without her buddies. Such intelligent creatures. So much work involved in butchering and grinding the meat but it does look lovely. Your girls would love it up here in N. Ontario, Canada. We have about a foot of snow on the ground already. I guess it's here to stay till spring, darnit. It seems the older I get, the more I dislike the snow! Consider yourselves lucky that you don't get a lot of snow :)

I would be saving some of that pork fat to use with your deer meat. To make venison summer sausage, brats, and snack sticks. Use 1 pound of fat with 4 pounds of venison for 5 pound batches.

I use pork fat when I'm making my venison sausage, but I use beef fat for my other ground venison. I like medium cooked burgers, and I don't want to eat undercooked pork.

When you're all done processing the last pig, could you please do a video with some nerdy pig math? I'd love to see how much feed it took and how much meat/fat you ended up with. You guys are SO great! You do all the research for me ;-) I was going to do the Freedom Rangers vs. Cornish Cross next summer and now I don't feel like I have to. And we were planning on adding pigs next year!! I won't miss an episode....you are my "coffee time!" THANK YOU for all you do! Y'all should consider a Patreon account.

A friend of mine shared a tip with me that works great; and now I will pass it on. When filling my ziplock bags, I first turn the top down (before my hands are messy 😊). This keeps the zipper clean as I fill the bag. Then once it’s filled I flip the top back up and zip it. I love it!

Yes love the idea of flattening it out , saves space , makes it easier to defrost. But if in a hurry as thin as it is you can chop it with a good chefs knife or defrost it in cold water never use hot water for some reason I used hot water and my meat had started to turn so please always use cold water.

I went through a period (like a typical adult) where I was like "yuck, snow." But with as dry as it's been here in WY the last couple of years, I get pretty excited to see snow too. Lol! One good way to make ground meat stretch is to add at least 1/4 cup of dry barley rice to every 1-lb. of ground meat. Cook the barley rice in stock/ broth and then mix into the cooked ground meat. It will taste like and have the similar texture of cooked ground meat. And it stretches your ground meat. I learned this trick in culinary school to add extra fiber in our family's diet. Good job with the amount of ground meat you got! Incredible! And what a delicious looking dinner too! Good deal! Thanks for sharing this.

It would be great on the pocketbook to stretch ground meat that way, but my husband is having difficulty getting his diabetes under control, we can't use carbs to stretch meat. We stretch our ground meat by adding a pound or so of finely chopped mushrooms. Mushrooms have almost no carbs, and they add tons of flavor, kind of like eating a steak smothered with sauteed mushrooms.

We donated anything that was gently used at this same store to able others the blessing we experienced. We love cabbage, potatoes and sausage soup. We season it with pepper, salt, dried parsley and a little garlic pepper. Served along side some buttered bread it is lovely.

Congratulations on your harvest of pig! Looks good. Knowing where it comes from makes it even better. We had 2 sheep that we grew cut up and are enjoying it! Looks like we are going to get another round of snow like stuff Thursday! Stay warm!

I love watching your morning chores. You have an absolutely beautiful rooster. The baby goats are so adorable! Of course I love your ducks. They crack me up every time you let them out. It was nice to see your day out with your daughters. I had to use thrift stores a lot when my kids were growing up. I miss having a wood burning stove. I loved watching the fire. I’m happy that you got the meat that you wanted, and it is nice to see a man not afraid to help with dinner. It looked really delicious! Thanks for sharing all your adventures, and may God bless you and your family!

You are well sorted for Winter - or will be once you have all your chicken and pork processed. Nice to see the whole family again too.

We make hamburger & cabbage all the time. We smush the hamburger on the bottom of the pan, aprinkle seasoning lay chopped cabbage on top, sprinkle seasoning & cover. Cook on low til meat is finished & cabbage is tender. Yum.

I really enjoyed this video, for a 'relaxed day' you certainly had a productive time! Yes that feeling of having filled the freezers is awesome. We freeze in 1lb bags too so we can just take out what we need each time. Thanks for sharing your day with us :-)

Liz Zorab - Byther Farm some of the things i like about the flat packed pound is if you need more than a pound you can bash the flat to snap it in half

Love this video! Everything was so much fun to watch...love how your daughter finally gets to play in the snow. Now that we finally got out of AZ we will hopefully see snow this year too. This will be our son's first time seeing snow for real.

I love you guys. Not just your channel, but your family. Y'all are good people. Thanks for sharing. I'm learning tons. I'm one of those who will be retiring in 5 to 6 years and I'll be living on my income from homesteading (at this point on 3 acres, hopefully more by then) along with social security. My home and land is an hour and a half from my job, so doing the best I can to get started right now.
