just a matter of choice but I like the orchestral strings better. But then again I use a rag to mute my string quite often to get a gut sting effect. I love the funk of a dull string. I give a thumbs up for the demo cuz I am always wondering the dif.
I definitely hear better definition and much more volume on the lower strings, especially the E string which can traditionally have volume issues on upright basses. That in itself is a huge plus if you're playing acoustically.
I have played gigs where I have had to bow short sections on the "jazz" strings I was using. I would have loved to hear exactly what can be done with that.
Would you be able to play arco on the Labella’s to demonstrate how they *don’t* work for orchestral music? If its just not ideal, i still might get them anyway because I haven’t bothered with bass for years due to the string tension, but if i can stop my left hand from screaming, i might do so.
Hi John. I wouldn't consider these strings if you want to play with a bow. I would recommend trying a "low tension" set of hybrid strings. I don't really want to try the bow on my new strings because it will leave rosin on them, but I know that the tape wound strings are not meant to be used with a bow. 👍🎶
If this ‘nylon-wrapped’ has same material as that of Innovation string, then it’s bowable, thou not as smooth sounding as steal strings. Not Smooth here means u can hear scratchy-ness like paul chambers’s bowed solos,
Would you say theres a noticeable difference in the acoustic volume of this set from the last? I usually play without an amp and would like to know. Thank you for your time!
I think ‘Acoustic volume’ can be ‘determined’ by things. Sometimes briteness of the strings may be considered as ‘adding’ acoustic volume, coz u can hear the hi-mid frequency a lot better than that of warm or shorter-sustain strings.
More punch and less sustain with the Helicore Hybrids. you can hear they are off the fingerboard for the bow. The nylon have that growl to them and sustain. Much less sophisticated orchestra sounding but definitely characteristic of the jazz bass sound with the buzzy growly nature of the tone.
Genuinely very impressed by the sound off these. Appreciated hearing them in a mix too, great video!

Love those LaBellas. The labella .50-.105 tapewounds work great on my SRH500F
La Bella sounds so good. Nice tone.
Which double bass is this one??

Yes, I agree! 👍🎶
how do those black la bellas sound with a more rockabilly approach?

Hi!...Would you recommend them to play Rockabilly?
Muy bueno el video. Me ayudó a tomar decisión sobre que cuerdas necesito para mi contrabajo. Saludos desde Merida Yucatan. Mexico.
What’s the gauge like on the la bella, are they quite thick?
Hi John, what music are you playing in this video.
Thank you.
Hi Pierre. I played the Sonny Rollins tune Oleo and at the end a Joe Bonamassa tune called Asking Around for You. 👍🎶
How do these stings sound being slapped? I’m interested in buying these but don’t know if they’re right for my type of music

The absolutely do not work with a bow, the texture of the nylon windings does not provide adequate friction against the bow to produce a tone.

You should try PRESTO JAZZICATO TUNGSTEN imho the best you can get.. and you can bow them as well..!
Hi! What pickguard do you use on recording? mic or pieso? or mix of it?
Would you say theres a noticeable difference in the acoustic volume of this set from the last? I usually play without an amp and would like to know. Thank you for your time!
Hi. I didn't notice a difference in acoustic volume. But it obviously takes time to change the strings so it's hard to do a side by side comparison.

can you do slap comparison?
La Bella all the way
Are these strings easier on your fingers?
Hi Bill, yeah, I would say that they are easier on the fingers. 👍🎶
D’addario ftw
They sound pretty metallic to me.
That's because they're brand new.
