The full-size SUV market is shrinking, but Nissan is still trying to get a piece of it with their commodious Armada. We came to realize during our week with a fully-loaded Platinum version that they have their work cut out for them going up against major new players like the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition. The problem is that you don't even have to be in the car review business to see the Armada's shortcomings. The engine is down on power with only 317 hp on board this nearly three ton people mover, and unfortunately the outdated 5-speed automatic can only partner with it to return 12 mpg city and 18 mpg highway. That's an expensive reality even by class standards standards. The disappointment continues inside with subpar ergonomics, materials that are out of place in a $54k vehicle and a small infotainment screen. Now it's not all bad by any means. We loved the comfortable seats, the second row DVD screens and the 2-speed transfer case gives the Armada a fighting chance in the worst weather Old Man Winter can drop on you. But was it enough to earn our recommendation in the end? You're five minutes from finding out.

I love my Armada, 108,000 miles since new in 2008. Not ONE issue or breakdown. 1 new battery, 1 set of front brakes and the usual fluid changes. The Armada offers more and drives better than MOST large SUV's. I think the fact that Nissan has left it cosmetically alone for all these years plays with the uneducated negative comments such as this video. If you need a lot of room, and great power, check it out!! (It's my fourth Armada for a reason)

The 2007-2014 Expeditions, my favorite SUV, has 310 hp. 7 less than a Nissan Armada. This guy has no clue what he is talking about.

Absolutely TERRIBLE review. This guy knows nothing about automobiles. Yes the design is older , but its still very competitive. Despite what the power on paper is rated. The 5.6 is a fantastic V8 , and still propels the Armada to 60 in the low 7 sec range.
I've seen some reviews report as quick as 6.9 sec.
I'm thinking maybe they told him to walk around the vehicle, and talk about it without actually driving it.
This guy is in the wrong business for sure.

Test drove a 2010 Sequoia Platinum with the 5.7. Then test drove the 2010 Armada Platinum (that I eventually got) and it felt way faster than the Toyota. The Armada also has unique styling and the 5.6 is a great motor. Don't fix what ain't broken is Nissans motto with this rig I believe. Have your own opinion but know that this is my DD and I know it like the back of my hand.

Yep the shear torque of the 5.6 L 5 speed with the Tow package we have is awesome. I have tested many large Suv from chevy, ford to Toyota. I have yet to feel the seat of the pants rip I feel with this Armada when I barley tap the gas. Never feels heavy till I hit the first turn then it handles great too. Love it.

Well said, Phillip.. My 2010 Armada is a Hot rod that rides comfy like a Jetliner.

MR NEGATIVITY WE JUST GOT ONE RECENTLY A 2013 MODEL AND ITS QUITE NICE, SUPER COMFY SEATS INCLUDING THE 3RD ROW WHICH I'M 6' BTW. THE ONLY THING THIS GUY DID WAS SLAM THE CAR NON STOP, NOT A SINGLE POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT ON THE VEHICLE. HATERS WILL HATE.

I noticed you did not mention it has best in class brakes and stopping distance. Also reliable engine...Proven over the years. Off the line this very fast for such a heavy SUV...Real comfortable quite and spacious...You will not pay $54k, communicate your own deal....I drove GMC Tahoe, lousy brakes very bouncy feel, Ford Exp. same brakes and handling was not to par. I suggest you should really test drive the competition and you will find for a large SUVs, Armada is the best for handling, hauling, stopping and reliable engine....If you want to save Gas money, this not for you or nay large SUV....

Horrible review, Not factual at all. I own a 2010 Nissan 4x4 Armada. The 5.6L engine and drive train are hard to beat. Off the line or Towing a Whopping 9200lb. It pulls the 7000lb Armada body/frame with ease. Mine feels like a Hot rod off the line.
Yes fuel mileage needs to Improve but that's on all Heavy trucks and SUV's. Better yet the price of gas needs to go down. After test driving the Ford Expedition, Chevy Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban, performance wise the Armada flat out scoots. Numbers on a board don't matter much when the real test is seat of the Pants compared to the competition. Guess I'm a little old school. If its not broke don't fix it. Tweak it yes for better fuel economy, You forgot to mention the 5.6L Armada runs on Regular 87 octane . All the other SUV"s need 89/92 which is more money each fill up.

The gm trucks look really big on the outside, but are small interior wise compared to the Armada. I'm 6'4 and the Armada and Sequoia are the only ones with a comfortable second row. The horsepower isn't a big deal because I pass people all day long on the highway with higher horsepower cars. People buy high horsepower cars and never use it.

I have a 2012 Platinum Edition and love it, the only thing I agree with this guy, it does need a better infotainment system, even the new Altima has a better one. For 52k car you should be able to blue stream music with apps. I have to still use the old school aux cable to listen to Pandora.

This guy knows nothing about large SUV's... I am not a large SUV fan myself, but if you are then you are most likely searching for cargo capacity, comfortable ride, towing capacity, Payload capacity, a v-8, and a few other things..... Nissan Armada check, check, and check.... Also the Armada because of its weight and AWD makes a great all season truck...And since when is 300 plus H.P not enough power ? I would personally go with a Toyota 4 Runner , but the Armada is worth a look....

The armada is not slow. My 2012 hauls ass. It beat my sons VW toureag (V6). The Touraeg was faster of the line but about 4 seconds in the Armada started to pull away. Great deals are on this car too

There was a Lincoln Navigator in the video. That is old and outdated. The Navigator along with the Ford Expedition was not redesigned since 2002 for the 2003 model year. Ford need to redesign those as soon as they can because the design of those comes back from the early 2000's, this is the mid 2010's. I can't wait.

  • @MrTblackmon

Minus the modest updates this Nissan Armada has seen over the last seven to eight years, this truck or body-on-frame vehicle has been looking the same roughly ten years; and consequently, hasn't seen a total redesign since its debut in 2004.
It is in a demanded market for big families who are seeking for a big, brawny SUV with at least seven to eight passenger capacity, and this SUV has just that, but it lack a fully redesign, poorly under-powered V-8 to its competition and dated look compared to the all-new Chevrolet and GMC counterparts, and the newly revamped Ford Expedition, this Nissan Armada has become shy to its consumers.
