My father was from Amherstburg and worked on Boblo I'm the 1940's. My great uncle Marvin O'Gorman was the skipper of the Boblo tug boat. I still remember the first time I was brave enough to ride the roller coaster.

I still have my Boblo hat from waaaaay back in the day, early 60’s, when I was a kid. It still looks brand new.
So many fond memories of going to Boblo Island. The boat ride was half the fun. I wish we still had that.
Hey folks. A fun fact. Tom Seizmore the actor worked there in 1981. A lot of WSU students worked there over the summer. Tom worked security. Tom was wild and crazy then.

I grew up in Windsor as teens in the early 60s with girlfriends we would take the tunnel bus over to Detroit then walked to the boat taking our rollar skates with us. Later on Canadians could drive to the dock in Amherstburg to take the boat over there.
I honestly barely remember Boblo itself, but I remember riding on the boats VERY well
I was born in 1979 and I don’t remember it either, but I remember the boat. None of the park brought me memories, that’s why I can’t wait to see the whole movie

Bob-Lo Island is a Canadian island. I worked on there for two summers in the mid 1980s - a lot of fond memories!
The Detroit dock was considered a US port of entry - only US citizens could work on the US side of the dock.
Only Canadian citizens could work on the island (and the Canadian docks).
The island is expensive houses and condos now.
Where there really 2 ports of entry?

That was THE GREATEST adventure EVER for Detroit and EVERYWHERE around!!! I met my first penpal, from Massachusetts, named Marcia Mulkuylski, when I wuz 10! She was disabled with muscular dystrophy & some punx were beatin her up on the dance floor, until my 6' 180lb ass, at 10yrz old, went & mopped the wood floors with em!!! We were ALL friends by the time we hit the amusement park!! Great memories!!!

My friend worked on the Saint Clair for this doctor, he ended up with a brain tumor and the worked stalled. Then it was mysteriously burned down. They say it was a careless welder but we think it was done for the insurance to get out from under it.
But the insurance didn’t pay because the fire didn’t burn what was insured.
I grew up in the Detroit area and I experienced Bob-Lo as often as I could! I can give you a mental tour of the St. Claire right now: As you boarded from the Detroit dock at the foot of Woodward Avenue in the 1960s, the Engine Room was visible in the middle of the first deck. It was open-air and passengers could stand at a railing and look down on the crew working the engines. There was a steep stairway leading down into the Engine Room from the first deck. Off to side of that open area of the Engine Room were the restrooms on the boat. There was little else open to the passengers on that first deck except for a small snack area at the rear or stern of the ship. Most passengers climbed the grand staircase near the boarding area, which was towards the bow. There were also two sets of stairs at the stern of the ship, just behind the snack bar. One stairway on either side of the boat. If you went up the main staircase, the grand staircase, the second deck had the souvenir stand on the left side. Go through and entrance way and you were on the dance floor. Seats ran along either the port or starboard side of the ship for passengers to sit by the rails and enjoy the passing scenery (or watch the dancers). I remember tons of life preservers. Many were suspended from the ceiling on nets. All three decks had tons of life preservers. There were also storage compartments along the port and starboard sides that contained either adult or child life preservers and were so-marked. There were stairs at the bow and stern that took passengers to the third deck. That deck had seats at the bow, stern, and along the port and starboard sides. The middle of that third deck was a bar that children were not allowed into. Stairs near the bow allowed passengers to walk up to a small area in front of the bridge where some people could sit and watch the boats go up and down the river. It was also possible to look into the bridge and watch the crew steering the boat towards Bob-Lo (or Detroit if you were leaving Bob-Lo). Throughout the ship, there was a P.A. system where the bandleader (they had a live band in the 1960s) would make announcements (such as tell passengers there was a lost child at the bandstand) or passengers could hear the music that the band was playing.
Chrysler had their annual picnic on Boblo Island and for this the smell of cigars and men in white pants and shoes will forever remind me of it. My sisters worked at Boblo. There was a bus that took them to Amherstburg every morning and back after the park was closed. For a grade 8 graduation present from OLPH, Mr. Lalonde paid for a trip to Boblo Island. We boarded in Windsor on a hot, humid summer day in June then crossed the river to pick up grade school students in Detroit. I don't know what happened to Mr. Lalonde but we were given as much freedom as we wanted and spent the whole time dancing until we docked an hour later. The DJ was awesome because the music was all funk and disco!

Many have fond memories of Boblo Island but then reality sets in, as the lady said Detroit neighborhoods must be fixed first.

I was from Amherstburg and held many summer jobs there. One of my favorites was working at the dock for the big boats and smaller ferries from the Canadian side - ushering passengers on and off. Was very sorry to hear that the park had closed given all the summer jobs it created. We need an eccentric billionaire to come along and reopen it. Elon Musk, are you there?

boblo was fantastic meet many Friends from Detroit there I two almost bought a boblo boat only it was the smaller one level one in Ontario near grand bend but it was to hard to find a place to tie up a metal hull boat.
Anybody go to or plan on going to the museum display at marine city? I guess it's open and free through September.

I went to Boblo a lot as a kid growing up and I hated that it closed and then was demolished.
