See and hear how local commentators react to their country (not) qualifying to the Grand Final of the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest!
Thanks to some amazing people in our community, we were able to add English subtitles for all reactions (except for Northern/Inari Sámi).
Note that there is no video from the Maltese broadcast, as TVM broadcasts the contest without commentary.

screaming at netherlands being like “well we aren’t ireland”
Right? They didn’t even sound that disappointed 😂
@@SuperJNG18 The hate the duo received in the past month was insane. They were very very bad at the start and people were even suprised they didn't back down after the first performance
hahahaha! For what it's worth I really liked the Dutch entry , probably my favourite song even on the night so was quite shocked to see it not qualify , especially with Switzerland going through which I found quite dull personally.
Eimear Quinn did a new version of her 1996 winning song The Voice for a concert in Amsterdam ironically enough a couple of years back (it's on youtube) . RTE in Ireland could do far worse than pick up the phone to her if they are out of ideas as to what to send , which frankly since the turn of the millennium they seem to have been...
@@SuperJNG18 That's because we/they had already given up hope we would qualify so when we didn't he was like ok we were right. Should we have been through however ... you might have heard him scream ;-)
Yeah, Dutchies can sometimes be really edgy.
Love the Latvian commentator and he is 100% correct. Sudden Lights were incredible and they deserved more, absolutely nothing to be ashamed about. Ppl just didn't get it, but those that did loved it! I voted for it 15 times from Germany. Please don't give up Latvia ❤❤❤
I voted for it three times from NYC! I didn’t hope too much but I knew they did great and were the kind of artists who’d just appreciate even being there to begin with. Latvia did a brilliant job and shouldn’t regret a thing. Next year!
I was sorry to see them head back and I'd have wanted them to go through (couldn't vote in this semi final)! They seem a decent group and enjoyed their set yesterday. Listening to some of their stuff on UA-cam I can't help but feel they might have done better with a televote if they chose something like "Laternas" ijnstead of "Aija" - with a more energetic feel and hook.
Something tells me they ended up in 11th place, probably behind Remo, or something. We’ll know by the 13th, and I’m guessing what doomed their song was the fact that indie rock listeners don’t tend to pay much attention to the ESC. Maybe they should… I know I voted for them three times, for the first time ever since I’ve started watching this thing. 🤷♂️
@@Mainyehc might be something to that - indie rock does occasionally break through to the mainstream here in the UK , this would have done well in 2005 here.
I voted for them from Portugal...im really scared they will withdraw next year
I love how Finland's YLE always cares to have different language broadcastings: Finnish, Russian, Swedish, Sami and even Ukrainian.
And they also had English commentators back for UMK.
Three of those are official languages in Finland, Russians are a decently sized minority and we have enough Ukrainian refugees here that it makes sense to also provide them commentary.
@@tapio_m6861 In Spain we have 4 national languages and RTVE only provides one broadcast with Spanish speaking comentators... I envy Finland little bit more... Haha
@@tapio_m6861 Russian isnt an official language though
@@mrmr4622 as he said, there are many Russian speaking people living in Finland, which makes it valuable to offer commentary in their language. I do think that tv is a great way for people to integrate and learn the (official) language, but it's also nice that they provide at least some (I don't know how many Finnish tv programs are aired in Russian language) in other languages for those who don't yet understand the country's official ones. Especially for Eurovision which is the epitome of an international program followed by people of different languages.
@@ehmzed I hope you know why many people in Finland speak russian and that it’s not for a good reason
the croatian guy just laughing is so real
It was so fast that we are not prepared for Croatia to be first anounced.
@@slavkosain That’s how it is! They all start with a curveball, like when North Macedonia made it back with Tamara.
@@slavkosain that's true, artists and commentators are the least prepared, if they're gonna get announced first. Definitely not last, because they're always announcing safe qualifiers last.
@@slavkosain was he happy or mocked them? its hard to get it
@@user-dy4io9nt3z he was happy, shocked, but happy 😄
The Swiss guys were the best, especially the French language one "OH LA LA LA LA LA!"😂. The Czech guy sounds like a football commentator. Without the subtitles his comment sounded as if he were saying, "The bold strategy paid off for them, Cotton." 😆 I love it.
I love Eurovision commentators who treat it like sports commentary. Makes it more fun imo.
3:56
- "Is it possible that we are in the final?"
- "NO WAAAAAAY"
Lol yes it's exactly how I heard it 😂
I'm at work trying to stifle my laughter and failing miserably, I cannot believe this hasn't been memed to hell and back
Seeing Käärijjä take off his shirt in 5 different languages 😂
okay the impressions I got from these commentators:
-Croatia: omg we actually qualified how funny
-Moldova: whoop okay, fine we qualified
-Switzerland: OMFGFGFGFGFGF WE MADE IT (all of them)
-Finland: let's pretend to be surprised... YEEEES (also all of them)
-Czechia: yeah let's go we are through let's party!
-Israel: Of course we are in the final with Noa
-Portugal: OMFG WE QUALIFIED FOR THE 3RD TIME IN A ROW
-Sweden: let's pretend like we didn't expect... SO RELIEVED
-Serbia: oooooh I'm so relieved
-Norway: oooooooh why they keeping us for last
Excuse us Portuguese, we are not used to success in this 😂
The Finland-Swedish one wasn't even pretending to be surprised. She literally said "well we knew it of course"
@@Tintelinus Yeah they knew.
@@s2Capacidade2s haha but totally deserved qualification. Mimicat is great :)
@@---oi5zi hahaha yes
I love how supportive the Latvian commentator was with Sudden Lights. They really deserved the grand final.
latvian commentator is 100% right ! you guys have nothing to regret ❤
That's a great attitude to have, kudos to them.
All of the Finnish commentators are iconic, but HUGE shout-out to the Sámi commentators in particular. Really happy to see them being represented here, especially since they've had a rough go of it in Norway and Finland recently. Eurovision brings us all together!
Finland has so many languages here and I like their reactions on each!
I'm Finnish and I didn't know we had reactors in that many languages. 😂 Nice to see we're providing for our Ukrainians as well!
@@vanyadolly Yeah, that’s awesome!
Truly United by music 💚💚💚
As a Finn I can say that I’m really proud of Yle for their job and how much they have started to take this contest seriously!
Switzerland commentators were really happy !
I’m so happy that yle is making more of an effort to help in revitalising the Sámi languages, even if it’s mostly concentrated on Northern Sámi right now. I hope NRK and SVT will follow their lead.
Really interesting you mentioned that, as NRK, YLE and SVT have made a joint news program dedicated to the Sámi language, and runs on their channels.
Wow Finland was broadcasting in 6 different languages, impressive and shows they care!
Yeah YLE has been providing Sami thankfully more and more past and ESC has had them for few years. Ukrainian became thing last year and Russians are our biggest minority.
Yeah I was surprised when I was able to watch their NF in Swedish 👍
Ireland's "🥺 pretty please" was so cute
"It isnt !"
it was cute but it's quite delusional to think ireland will qualify over norway....
Marty Whelan is the best. Just an all round great guy
@@Rash23215 Well, hope is the last to die.
@@Rash23215 lol how old are you ?
I'm so sad for Latvia 🥺
Thanks for this video.
1:00 The Swiss Italian speaking commentators cheered in such an Italian way lol
Also the French: Oh la la la
And Swiss German: Yuhuuu
@@wbaumnuss3006 Gosh you're right, "oh la la la, c'est fantastique" is the frenchest cheering I can imagine
😊@@wbaumnuss3006
I love the Latvian commentator's attitude - yes you guys should be proud and unshamed. You gave us a good song, a good performance and staged it well that it did get you over the line isn't the fault of anyone on your team. Good job guys!
Switzerland was wholesome on a new level🤣🤩
I absolutely love Mikko (the Finnish commentator), he's my favourite part about Eurovision. He's just so excited about Eurovision and relatable tbh hehe
Me too! He even had green bolero with him and he put it on in his booth, without a shirt of course. I have a badge that has Mikkos most famous saying: ”Muista rakastaa itseäsi!” (Remember to love yourself!)
@@mantailuaa Oh that's so cool! Also I love that picture (or video? Can't remember lol) of him wearing the bolero
"hvala"...the Serbian commentator was just relieved :D
She wanted to say "Hvala kurcu", which means "Thanks to dick", a common phrase in Serbia when you're happy something happened. It's just that she was on live television so she needed to change up her language a bit😂
@@datboi5325 ah alright😄
@@werdscher0568 She later said, "last year Konstrakta was called the very last, they again tried to play with our nerves."
Marte always getting so excited even though Norway is a sure qualifier i love her! Also Duška who is always chill and calm, true ESC icon.
The dutch commentator just casually throwing shade on ireland
He's like we're taking Ireland down with us!
It was straight up hating on them, the Dutch suffer from superiority complex

1:14 - We love you, Mikko and your infectious laugh! AND PLEASE WEAR THE BOLERO!
Thanks for the amazing job!!!!
You put that together so quickly.A great listen, thanks.
Big effort went into making this video. I appreciate it! It's interesting how some commentators are more nationalistic (Moldova), others are over the moon (Switzerland), and some are just relieved (Serbia).
Wow, very nice and appreciated video! Thanks a lot

what a cool video idea 😍 thanks for the upload
This is what it’s all about! The excitement and relief of getting to the final. Loved this video
Omg switzerlands commentators were so greatt haha and why in the heck does finland have so many xD
Swedish and Sami, toghether with Finnish ofc, are official languages in Finland.
Bit surprised about Russian and Ukranian tho
@@Tintelinus Finland borders Russia so I wouldn’t be shocked if they have a size-able Russian-speaking population. And I think the Ukrainian commentators was a nice gesture toward Ukrainian refugees currently in Finland too.
@@Tintelinus there is a sizeable Russian minority in Finland, that´s been part of Finland for ages. But only recently did they get a Russian language version of the national channel

NQ commentators reaction in the nutshell:
Azerbaijan: Yeah... we didn't qualified, anyways...
Ireland: *cries thinking that Europe never gives them a chance even tho that they have 7 victories in esc*
Latvia: We didn't qualified but they showed up on eurovision and we are proud that they slayed on the stage
Netherlands: At least we didn't NQ for almost 10 years unlike Ireland (They are roasting Ireland for not getting into a Final)
Malta: *Silence*
Azerbaijani guy shocked us all actually. He was commenting for the first time and at home we were thinking he was worried more for Norway than Azerbaijan 🤣🤣🤣 also he was saying "And Norwaaay, the last finalist. Unfortunately, we won't see our representative performing again in the final. But it is okay" 🤣🤣🤣 he was unnecessarily happy when we could not make it 😂
Malta: 😐
As German speaker, I cannot for the life of me understand Switzerland’s accent, but it’s so cute 🥰 I can’t with the reactions hahaha
From what my German teacher taught us, in Switzerland they speak a dialect of German, something called Schwyzerdütsch ( or something like that)
Those commentary are totally the best 😊

Ireland: Is it possible that we are?

How were you able to find all these? Super impressed!
Marte Stokstad being cool and collected in 2023 after 2 years of literally yelling at the viewer after qualifying.

Favourite thing was watching Hannah Waddingham scream Finland six times.

I love this type of videos! Btw, Malta's commentary wasn't available?
Edit: Oh, I've seen in the description of the video that TVM doesn't provide commentary with the broadcasting. Such a pity! Does anybody know why? I didn't know Malta didn't have commentators at Eurovision
They had commentators untill 2017
@@eglebalc3537 Oh, it's good to know. But the decision of removing them is weird, in my opinion. I don't know what could be the reason behind that

Thank god that my country (The Netherlands) successfully avoided “The Curse of Last Year’s Hosts” in 2022 thanks to S10 before the qualification streak yet unfortunately came to an end in 2023!
But however, The Netherlands are better prepared to come back for a revenge in Malmö 2024!
The Netherlands were shit in 2022, 2023 and certainly are a joke in 2024
8/10 i got right
3:35 - I think the commentator mistook Norway for Azerbaijan…
It's the reaction of non qualified countries actually (as Norway was last to be named hence their reaction that it wasn't their country named last)
Beautiful reactions imo of both the qualifiers and non-qualifiers!
But… is Serbia really showing Eurovision on their THIRD channel? 🥲 like not even on their first or second?
Does it matter? In Poland there are 2 main channels of TVP but I think they both are equally important
Due to the two tragic mass shootings that recently happened in Serbia the media decided to stop broadcasting entertainment shows this entire week, but the grand final will be broadcasted on the main channel!
