  • The North Fork Reservoir Habitat Project was completed in the midst of a pandemic and just weeks before the Riverside Fire swept through the Clackamas River Basin. Despite these challenges, the project was finished ahead of schedule and under budget, and is already being used by fish as spawning habitat.
How did we do it? Close collaboration with key partners like the Oregon Wildlife Foundation and Bureau of Land Management.
This project was funded by the Clackamas Habitat Fund. Learn more: www.portlandgeneral.com/clackamasfund

You children's future is a stream. And it's currently an unhealthy stream being returned to its prior. Only then protection can be implemented.

Beautiful design & work! The other thing that you didn't mention was with these structures placed instream, they will capture more LWD to enhance structure, cover, and habitat for T & E Species. On a sad, but snarky side, with the fires is that there is a lot more available wood for log placing now.

Bring back the hatchery summer steelhead run above the dam. One of the great fisheries from the 80’s and 90’s. Baseless reasons for ending the run.

They don't care about fish #'s They have financial incentives to keep fish #'s low to garner money for bogus projects like these. The salmon rehabilitation industry is a multi billion dollar scam industry.

California has Dams on all the rivers and this has destroyed the king salmon in fishery. Sending all water to Central valley for farms and to southern California cities. I remember in early 80s California had awesome king salmon fishery and there were big 30 to 40lbs. Now you rarely see a 30lb king salmon.

Great project. The before and after redds map at the end was great to see.

It isn't obvious from the video, but are the structures "diggers"? They should be terrific if they hydraulically maintain deeper pockets for fish cover. Yes, Tim, it's me ;)

Curious about the odd looking tall anchor pilings? Why not use more natural, lower profile pilings anchoring the logs via cable?

Most of the similar structures I’ve been around have the additional design goal of capturing additional logs over time. Contrary to their comments these are not the only intentionally created structures using near vertical piling. Some have criticized the vertical logs as not looking natural. I think that’s correct. In the rivers the key, anchoring pieces used to be four and six and seven feet dbh logs. Two feet dbh logs may contribute to the jam, but they just aren’t the anchors. In our grandchildren’s lives the trees planted as riparian trees won’t approach the mass needed, So I am in favor of the vertical logs driven into the stream beds. Also those other similar structure along the river edges aren’t anchored to the sides. They’re anchored to the beds, exactly like these.

As the Clack goes, while the focus on anadramous species is laudable if predictable, it has been done to the detriment or neglect of the trout imho. Said river should have healthy populations of native trout throughout. A more holistic ecosystem management approach is required imho.

What about getting rid of the dams themselves?

    • @oliverspin8963
      @oliverspin8963 2 роки тому +3

Yes. The dam itself caused much of the ecosystem damage they claim to be repairing. We have prioritized our own needs over nature's.

While you're absolutely correct, this is PGE (Portland General Electric), not PG&E (Pacific Gas and Electric). Similar name, very different company.

Why doesn’t PGE fix the Pelton-Round Butte Hydroelectric Complex on Lake Billy Chinook. PGE has destroyed the lower Deschutes River and turned one of the premier fishing rivers into an algae farm.

So is that why the road further down is blocked off, or is that of a different reason?

Electrical Power should not have to dominate All residents, as many residents do have alternative to Source, so Main Concern is the vested Interests that need to look and Resolve those monumental differences in Scientific Approach, Evaluations, as they signed off on Anadromous Fish Species: however, large components of the Upland and Riverine/Freshwater Ecosystems were under evaluated for Holistic or Natural Headwaters to sea, lifestyles, and the myriads of other Species and mostly unstudied Insects, Mollusks, Arthopods, Vegetation Series, Seral stage, forest diversity, Wetland Plant Species and many other variables that have caused multi-stressors on these broader Resources when populations have generally crashed, estuaries still mostly unstudied for costs associated with that, while Students of Natural Ecological form, functions, inhabitants, loss of channel diversity, removal of woody matter form streams and rivers, draining of crucial wetlands, Industrial pollutants, and Major Consumption vies for an Environmental Representation by young students, College Students all merging with Economies? Volunteerism should not be required here in America, just standup for another threatened Species is becoming the norm now.
